I've been trying to find some inspiration for my combat mod, then decided to watch those videos from the early builds (2013/2014). Here's a small 3 min. montage of the early interesting gameplay bits I found...
I think there are a few key differences with the current game:
- Gameplay mostly focused on soloing, rather than teamplay. (explains why teamplay is unintuitive)
- Camera
- Camera uncentered in combat (a bit like dark souls), even without targeting. No longer works this way..
- Camera position much lower, much more immersive
- Mobility
- Speed while turning (u-turns) stays the same
- Immediate acceleration to full speed/deceleration to full stop
- Charged attacks (Hold to charge), such as whirlwind
- Stagger on hit for warrior basic attacks
- Rain of arrows and Fade step (version 1.0, now used on Calpernia)
- Mages had strafing basic attacks (Zither!)
Why is any of this relevant: my plan is to make a mod that recreates the above (stance/strafing mod + camera mod), however I'll need to spend more time researching/coding because the current tools have very limited functionality. Mod will have SP compatibility and limited MP access.
