I started modding a while back and downloaded and have been using ever since v653.  I really did not even know it was still being updated.  I recently discovered that there are indeed many new versions.  I also get the impression that some of the newer versions might actually cause a loss of functionality (mesh mods maybe?)

So my question is if v653 has been working for me should I move up to another version? Are the improvements made in the new versions worth the upgrade?  If so what version is recommended?

thank for any help/opinions offered

rev653 is solid, from what I know. I built LIME off of rev717 and it's gone well. I gather the tpf/dds tools are fairly good in rev717, not great in rev718, but better in rev721 with the jury out on rev722. I could be wrong on that because I haven't messed with anything but rev717.

Newer ones are more bleeding edge and have more features but are also a lot more broken.

The only problem 718 has is texture installation, it is otherwise the best rev out there for now. To avoid that problem, simply autofix in rev718 then extract the textures and install using 717.

Just ran into the issue this weekend.  718 cannot even install tpf files properly.  Same tpf, rev718 fails to install some of the included textures but 717 has no problems doing so.  Anything later than 718 can produce really unpredictable and undesireable side-effects with textures too when you DO get textures imported.
