I just had to laugh.

It dawned on me that my only interaction with Bio-devs these days is on Twitter, where occasionally we'll talk about some random thing or other.

Things that aren't Bioware related.

Off Topic things.

Ha. Hahahaha

I get that, i really know your pain..I would so much love to have Off Topic forums back in active.

You only need to play while connected to EA's service once. I've gone into more detail in the past about why we took this approach but basically it wasn't feasible to keep doing it the old way using CD keys and UPC codes.

I didn't read your earlier statements - maybe they were during my absence from the boards following the relaunch.

I do remember that I didn't see any announcement or other communication from Bioware when this approach was first used when Mass Effect 3 was launched (back in the days of "Evil Chris"). Back then, there seemed to be a Bioware policy to not talk about it...

I live alone in a one-bedroom flat.  I don't own a P.C. and am only interested in playing single-player games and so reluctant to go for the monthly expense of an internet connection (especially as it would mean permanently leaving the cheap phone scheme I'm currently on).

I post when I visit my parents on weekends and holidays but it's an hour-and-a-half journey using 2 buses so I am reluctant to carry a bulky games console on such a journey (and back) just to use a highly unstable broadband connection with monthly limits.

Maybe, my situation may change in the future (one of the reasons why I put my DAO and DA2 Data in the keep) but no plans for the foreseeable future

One thing to note is that if people are only allowed to post in the general discussion boards then that is where they will post regardless of whether their post has spoilers or not.  If you don't want spoilers in general discussion boards, you have to allow people to post elsewhere.

This certainly was a problem on the ME3 boards when the game was launched (until the general discussion board became locked)

How could you be an offline gamer if you obviously were able to post here?

Lots of people have internet. Can't just expect everyone to hold back because of that.

you seem to be saying

1) people can't access the internet from anywhere other than their own homes

and 2) games can't be all be available on disc because if they were they coudn't be available as download

I don't believe either is true

Another supposed trash thread thrown into Off Topic, giving me the brief hope that it was reopened.

At this point I figure I should just close this BSN tab and wait for someone to contact me on another site and let me know when to return.

BioWare's PR department currently.

Sad that shitty PR is hurting the devs goodwill

I don't know about that. I mean, I've had wondrous experiences with Bioware developers over the years, from helping me try to get my foot in the door with voice acting(that went nowhere because of things on my end, but the help I got was immense for what I expected and is years later still appreciated) to just shooting the breeze talking about anything(Barrett Rodych is top level awesome).

But man, now I know how others felt about features of the forum being removed long ago. Back when the BSN became the Bioware forums again A LOT of stuff was lost, and people were pissed and quite disappointed. I didn't make use of most of those features so I welcomed the simplicity of just being a forum.

Of course now, these decisions have affected something I put a lot of time into and kept me here talking about Bioware related projects when I otherwise would have nothing linking me to them. So now I'm like them.

Though I guess at this point its less "incredible disappointment" and more "should've seen this coming". After all the decisions over the years that had people scratching their heads, I should've figured OT would be on the chopping block eventually.

It sucks to see every single forum you use eventually do something ridiculous, whether its(the following are examples each from a different forum I've used) a pay-for-use forum that increases the price dramatically, a forum that shuts down without warning, a forum that closes off a vital part of it you made much use of, a forum that never gets its moderation on track, etc etc.

Bummer. I want to be here but with the way money's short on my end, I literally can't afford Bioware's products going forward and thus can't contribute like I have for almost a decade.

I still could if I was involved here, but like I said before;ghost town.

I've actually posted more in the last week on the Halo Waypoint forums than I have here, which is depressing. I don't even have forty posts there lifetime. And funny enough I saw people there laughing about how 343 doesn't spend any time on their forums reading what people suggest and post.

I wonder if they ever had it like we had it 4-5 years ago.

What I mean all this is going to make the devs look like ogres to new people that come in and see all the complaints about how BioWare doesn't listen to us. It'll put a negative spin on all of them.

It's similar to how Chris Priestly while at CD Projekt Red (who was PR manager of the US I think)  insulted a portion of their fans. If he wasn't forced to apologise everyone would've thought CDPR as a bunch of dicks. The PR department is the face of the organisation and it's the last thing that should be spitting on the fans.

Not if new forum-goers are directed to the game sections and only those sections. As for that CDPR incident, don't know a thing about it so I can't comment.

I'm so surprised to read that Evil Chris was hired by CDPR (and then let go). I liked the guy on BSN when it was hot as hell. I can't keep up with gaming news to save my life! I love playing the games but social network for me, because of where I live and what we have here, is almost entirely to discuss politics and how to get rid of corrupts in power. Eventually I take a break and come to forums again.

But I sent Chris a message. Hopefully he'll reply. He says he's a huge nerd currently seeking employment. heh

Evil Chris answer:

Doing well thanks. Job hunting. Didn't stay as CDPR relocated my job to LA. Offered it to me, but not able to move atm.

Can a bot know what is off topic or not? LOL Good days we live in...

I often thought that Evil Chris was far too honest for a PR job, he tended to be quite blunt in his replies. Still it was refreshing to get those honest responses.

Now I've said it before but I will never understand why Bioware has withdrawn from their own forum. I refuse to believe that they have more control over the 'toxic' elements of their community on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit etc than they do here.

I remember having a long chat on Twitter with a Bioware dev, though I forget his name, about our mutual dislike of Need for Speed the Run

I don't want to spend time talking about Chris given the fact he's not here to pitch in himself but looking up internet results for him it appears CDPR fans had just as strong opinions of him as some here.

As far as 2015/2016 Bioware, I don't have much faith in further interactions. At least, not on the forums. Like you said, they've withdrawn. At the moment I'm sure they're deep in game development which naturally means less interaction as compared to game launch but damn, we get nothing/barely anything.

News posts go out to everywhere but here, we're just expected to grab them from other locations and share them. I remember when I was talking to David Hulegaard(Biodev+good dude) and I beat him by seconds making a thread he was about to make. We laughed about it.

Can't even do that anymore. The DA and ME sections are echo-chambers and if something isn't an echo of what it was before, according to visitors it doesn't belong there anyway.

This forum is an empty little shell of the amazing experience it used to be.

This forum is an empty little shell of the amazing experience it used to be.

I actually  can't help but feel the same as I do about the official Xbox Forum, that the company behind it is deliberately making the place just that little bit worse than it should be in order to drive people away.

After all why pay to maintain a forum when you have other social media sites. And if they do close the forum down due to lack of traffic they don't appear to be the bad guys.

It is a genuine shame as there are good people here that you can interact with, Bioware staff and posters alike.

My god, I was just looking through the threads of the ME:Andromeda section (after a month or so of absence) and honestly, more than three months after the shut down of the lobby, if the plan really was to establish a more game-focused, sincere and constructive discussion, it can now be said with certainty that it failed miserably. Half the threads in there are spam, the other half are divided between rehashed topics and actual off-topic threads (that would be better suited for the now non-existent lobby). I tried to reply to one and was met with surprise by other posters that I answered the OP's question in the context of the ME franchise. The whole thing is simply unreadable these days.

well, what's the point of off topic, if you can't discuss other bioware games here? anyway, i'm not very active here anymore. just left BSN for other forum, an new forum i made called KSN. as seeing that i'm not even welcome at VSN by Puddi too, so i decided to go with KSN. it'll be better for me rather than to wait for Vroom to come back as Adminstrator of VSN, he was better than Puddi. but that's just me. while it's relatively new, i still intend to make it lively as ever. members of BSN to come by anytime as they wish.

MrFob, i did notice that it's almost useless because whoever who decided to close the off topic should have realized that the forum users really don't want to talk about bioware games often, they just only talk about it when they feel like it. it's like forcing a pack of dogs to eat one specific meal. that's just totally wrong.

Ugh that thread reminds me why I don't post in there. Because of stupid **** where posters decide something isn't an RPG because reasons.
