wow people still complaining about nothing important. like my PS3 is better then your 360. so what everyone is a fan of something there fond of but in this who cares who thinks wich platform is better 360 PS3 or PC. were all here for the same purpose and thats to enjoy DRAGON AGE, regardless of what platform its on. besides hear something for the whiney PS3 users to complain more about,
us PC and 360 users get to play MASS EFFECT 2 and you dont so again complain some more. PS3 is just a glorified blue ray player anyway. LOL J/K :}

To be honest I think "platform wars" are pretty unnecessary, first and foremost we are all gamers..what machine we use shouldn't be an issue.  The broken update happened for the 360 users, thats why this thread mentions xbox, but I am sure anyone is allowed to post here, no matter what platform they use.

Lets get past the..my machine is better than your machine..we're here to play the game, discuss it..discuss the problems some of us are having.

This is a community for DA:O we're all in this together.

If RTO has been delayed this long does it also mean the DA A will be also delayed?

No..one does not necessarily guarantee the failure or even the success of the other. :)   The one thing I imagine would go better, is the testing process, being that they have now ramped up how they do things.

New testing methods, wider perimeters...should help get that expansion out when its due. :)

This argument is as funny (murder being illegal because of judeo/christians LOL) as it is repetitive. Abriael, just ignore Bible-guy, so that we can get some responses out of Victor regarding things we actually care about.

On a side note... yes, Bioware lied when they said that PC would not be affected at all by console development and release. They might have not done it intentionally, it is still untrue.

However at this point, there is little we can expect. I think that I would prefer to be told frankly "well we have simultaneous release agreements that we have to honor" and that would be it.

If the pc users don't like that, it is understandable, but there is nothing to do but admit that is how the market works and see that slowly but surely pc and console are mixing up. That need not be a bad thing! Once pc devs learn the console process well, there will be no difference... and hopefully good games will get bigger budgets to deliver better experiences

Communication and information, on the other hand, are important things: manage consumer expectations to obtain the evangelist and repeat sale.

They didn't lie..if it wasn't intentional..it wasn't a lie. :)  It was probably a case of believing they had the right information...til things started happening.

Faraele, it is pointless to argue semantics when we are discussing something above grammar. However:

Main Entry: lie

Function: verb

Inflected Form(s): lied; ly·ing \\\\ˈlī-iŋ\\\\

Etymology: Middle English, from Old English lēogan; akin to Old High German liogan to lie, Old Church Slavic lŭgati

Date: before 12th century

intransitive verb 1 : to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive

2 : to create a false or misleading impression

synonyms lie, prevaricate, equivocate, palter, fib mean to tell an untruth

The point is: they made forward looking statements that were rather too optimistic and ended up being untrue. What's done is done. From now on, better communication is essential for further issues not to arise

I am researching the whole "life of the PS3" issue and I'm rather concerned that the purchased I made this past Christmas might have been a waste of money.

I really enjoy DA:O but feel like I'm missing out on all the "extras" that PC users have. That being said it isn't worth the money to get my PC game-ready or to get another CPU altogether.

If there is going to be a "civil war" like what has been alluded to between Activision and Sony, then that will always work out in favor of the stockholders and against the customer. I most likely will not be able to get ME2 for the PS3 although there have been "rumors" of a PS3 release, but history says that's merely wishful thinking.

My now rambling point, is that if RTO is going to be available it would make more sense for Sony to include it within Awakenings along with any glitch fixes.

Don't worry, doomsayers are nothing new and fortunately not reliable. They have been predicting the demise of pc gaming for quite a while as well!
Competition brings about good things for the consumer. You might lose out on some content to gain somewhere else, but in the end things do balance out. There are 4 really good rpgs out for ps3 right now that you might want to check out: Demon's Souls, End of Eternity, White Knight Chronicles and FFXIII. The delay for RTO and even Awakenings for PS3 is likely to be unimportant for ps3 users given the strong lineup for the next few months.

FFXIII is out now you say? I want a time machine too....

Edit: Nuts to the doomsayers that say the Xbox version will pale in comparison to the PS3 version. I suppose we'll find out soon enough...

In your opinion which would be closest to DA:O? This is my 1st RPG since playing Might and Magic back in the late 90's and I am very unfamilliar with today's current formats and I do not play WoW.

That sounds fair to me. You make sense... Again. ;)

I need more than one of these threads to trust BW again, though. But it is a start. What really would convince me is this: Regular patches that actually fix things that people want to be fixed (there are many threads about that - who cares about fixing achievements when other more important things like dexterity are broken) and frequent releases of cool DLCs.

I'm not sure what you mean by what is closest to DAO - I started on might and magic years back, then got into baldurs gate, neverwinter nights etc.  DAO seems a further development on from baldurs gate - and if you have never played it, well i still load it up for a play fairly often.  the key differences I can see are in the development of relationships and communication between your characters

Ohh... well the are all very different from DA... Demon's Souls is an action rpg. It is not about the story, it is about the combat. It is emotionally engaging on a different level: it will actually give you palpitations haha. You can read some impressions here
End of Eternity is a fun Jrpg. White Knight Chronicles a JRPG take on non-turn-based combat. The game is huge, really really big with thousands of items to collect, craft, learn, etc.
FF... well, you know about that.

Yay! I makez sense! :D Where is my muffin?!

You are right, there are some issues with the game itself that need correcting and we have heard nothing on. Without downplaying the emotional investment that users have with trophies/achievements, corrupted saves, dex bugs, unending quests and framerate issues are actually a big concern.

So most of the games nowadays do not feature the communication aspects that DAO has? So are they more like Assassins Creed with single-player quest completion rather than team-oriented?

@AngryFrozenWater Let's hope the pigeons make it past China. Are your pigeons trained by WW2 vets?

@goalerjones: DA is very focused on your party and the conversations you have, etc. However the combat system suffers from it. I love the game but there is a part of me that longed to see some Demon's Souls action in it, making me feel mortal and giving stamina a real meaning. You can like cake and cookies as well, both yummy, lol. On the team thing, however, WKC has online 4 player party campaigns and you even build your own village, hire townsfolk to grow herbs and stuff and sell it online to other players who you invite to visit you. Read this link: http://www.rpgsite.n...early-2010.html for some more ideas.

As promised yesterday, I followed up with Fernando on the status of the PS3 release. Here is what he sent me:

The issue we saw on 360, which was introduced with the title update, also exists on the PS3 patch that was planned to go out with the Return to Ostagar DLC for PS3 – it is a console agnostic issue. However, the title update / patch itself (without the issue) is needed for both platforms in order to fix some main game items, as well as enable functionality for Return to Ostagar, and future functionality that benefits upcoming DLC. This meant we were unable to simply go ahead and release the PS3 version independent of pulling the 360 version, we now needed to re-open the PS3 version as well before that went public.

Once we were able to resolve the issue for 360 and delivered the second title update to MS for final certification then work began in earnest on the short hop to moving this across to PS3 and directing the test focus there. The nature of the issue was such that it required the same programmers and made more sense for that particular ‘nut’ to be cracked on the 360 first to really understand how to fix it once and for all, so this was not something we could do in parallel for both platforms.

Lastly, Sony's certification time simply takes longer than Microsoft's. It is also worth mentioning again that as we saw with the original RtO dates, even once in Cert until we actually pass an issue can still be found anytime either by ourselves or Sony/MS which would re-start the process all over again. In practical terms, what that means is that until we are virtually on the last days of certification it is not easy to provide an estimated release date – and we’re not there yet.

What we can do is update you once we get there with Sony certification, as we did with the 360 updates.

So why is the PC version delayed? If I may ask, since this all seems to do with the other platforms.

Apologies to any one with the other versions, I am not trying to be a PC snob, I just use PC not the others.

Thank you. Understandable, and I am satisfied with that explanation.

However, are we to understand that the lack of a date for PS3 Awakenings release is also related to certification? This is hard to believe since you should have some sort of schedule from Sony that is just as reliable as the MS one is. Or is it correct to assume that you debug PC, then 360, and after that is done you do ps3, which is what produces the delays?
