Hi all,

The community update will be a regular feature going forward. I'm hoping to get it on a regular schedule, but this is new process for us all, so the first few may be scattered through the weeks ahead, but we want to make sure you are updated frequently and have a solid source for info, so watch for more of these (as well as other happenings in the Dragon Age universe) in the News forum.

Cool. Finally, updates are a good thing, I understand that there will probably be a couple bumps along the road to getting this corrected but at least you're going down that road.

The next edition of the Xbox 360 title update is currently in testing for certification. We expect this process to be complete soon. Once we are certified, we will immediately begin work on deploying. What this means is that the notification of the release date could come... on the release date! We're a matter of days away, and looking forward to getting this on your hard drive for keeps. We're moving quickly, but will try to be as timely as possible with further information updates.

Return to Ostagar will be released for Xbox 360 and PC within a day or two of the title update. The PS3 release date is still pending. Again, keep watching for updates. In the meantime, you can read MMOMFG's first impressions for some excellent preview information.

As many others are saying, I though PC versions were not supposed to be delayed by console versions. What's the story behind this please? Also I assume that the PS3 version would be available at the time of the next PSN update after release, is this what we are to expect or is this issue with the pending date for PS3 release something deeper than the updating frequency of PSN? AsI've heard it this, if this is due to the updating frequency, it could cause a delay of anywhere from a day to a week as the PSN updates once a week. And given the recent issues with the release dates, I am happy to see that you have apparantly learned your lesson and are not being any more spcific on a release date than 'soon'. If you want a basis as to how to proceed with providing dev updates without release dates, just look at how Blizzard does things. They always have their stuff to be released 'When it's done' but they give regular teasers, previews, and updates on the status of things.

The items fixed in the Xbox 360 update are:

...

* All book-based specializations will now automatically unlock once the Warden reaches level 14. Books will still be available from vendors so you can unlock these specializations before level 14.

Does this mean that at level 14, that xbox players will have all specialisations automatically ulocked, learned, and active? or will they still be needing to learn a second specialisation at level 14? If the former of the two, Will this also be released on PC and PS3?

Victor Wachter wrote...

We also wanted to include a couple more news items here.

Starting next week, international gamers will be able to purchase Bioware points-in-a-box at select retailers, allowing them to purchase and experience DLC. At this time, we can confirm that they will be available in Germany, Poland and Russia. We're pulling together a complete list of countries where this will be available and retailers, and will update this message with that information.

Will these also be available in countries where Bioware points are already available for digital purchse? It would be a great alternative for player who prefer not making digital purchases of alternate currencies and who prefer just buying stuff in stores instead. At least this way they can purchase the alternate currency in store, with their common currency instead of having to convert to US$.

Green Ronin announced that pre-orders of the Dragon Age RPG will be shipping this week. (Thanks to greywardens.com for the scoop)

The pen and paper RPG? I thought that had already been released... I may have mis-read information on this though, I haven't really been keeping up with it in too great details. These regular updates would help us in keeping track of stuff like this as well so one would know what to expect and have a better idea of what you are talking about with stuff like this.

Thanks once again for the update.  Looking forward to these being regular. Please keep us posted.

The previous Xbox 360 update update introduced an issue that relocked class specializations. This title update will resolve that issue.

* After loading a previously saved game, specializations that have been unlocked through gameplay will be available again.
* All book-based specializations will now automatically unlock once the Warden reaches level 14. Books will still be available from vendors so you can unlock these specializations before level 14.

Hi Victor,

Thanks for the update. Quick questions, was the second * always intended? If not, is this for Xbox360 users only as kind of a "we're sorry" or for all platforms?

Question on the hitting level 14 unlocking specialization. Does it actually trigger your game file to think they are unlocked and will carry over into another playthrough? Or will you still need to buy the book/wait till 14 again on your next playthrough?

The progress of Mass Effect had to influence on RtO. There are two different teams working.

:unsure:Not sure what you mean.
My comment was related to the Mass Effect 2 is out.... so there are many hours of new game content out...
thus, for many BioWare Fans, RtO is irrellevant now. it might as well come out next year when we are playing DA:O for nostalgia's sake... the RtO team failed.

Is anyone else reminded of what Team Gizka did (or is doing) to their kotor 2 fans?

Team Gizka adopted a policy of not giving any updates whatsoever, and when they did give one, it was invariably along the lines of:

"Stop whining you *******, it will be done WHEN IT'S DONE !"

If you think I'm exaggerating, head on over to their website.

There are two extremes when it comes to keeping your fans informed. Both can potentialy hurt you.

-- one is to give frequent updates, and then get some serious heat when you fail to deliver.

-- the second is to reveal nothing, and tell them "when it's done!"

Which method hurts more? I don't know, but something tells me that a middle ground is ideal (as usual.)

There's a huge difference between BioWare and Team Gizka.

For one, BioWare gets paid to do what they do, and its customers pay for their product.

Team Gizka is made up entirely of volunteers, who are not getting paid, and will not be charging any money for their product when it finally IS done. To draw comparisons between the two is extremely unfair.

That being said, Team Gizka absolutely has the right to adopt a 'when it's done' policy. They don't owe us a damned thing, and the dissenters on THEIR forums that constantly complain about how long it's taking need a serious dose of reality-check.

For all the griping that I've ragged on Abriael for this whole nonsense, I will concede that he -- as a paying customer dealing with a force of salaried developers -- has a right to complain about the lack of deliverance on a product he desires, even though I disagree with his complaint.

I have a couple of questions that hopefully might be answered. There's been references to a 'console patch', is this patch simply to fix the achievements on the 360 or is an actual patch that fixes something within game for consoles?

Are the developers are aware of the countless bugs found in the 360 version (possibly PS3 as well)? There was a lengthy list of bugs in the Xbox Technical Forum. If you guys are aware of them, are there plans to fix them?

I just wanna say to ya Victor, I've seen a few message boards in my day, and you are by far the most chill "community facilitator" I have ever seen. Thanks for the updates man; I'm a proud owner of the ps3 DA:O, and delays or not I like the communication lanes Bioware is trying to keep open with its customers.

Speaking as a salaried developer, I can understand the sentiment, but really the problem is complaining doesn't change things. Things go wrong in software developement, bugs slip through the cracks, sometimes big ones. Developers don't set out to write bugs, but due to the complexity of software systems bugs are inevetible, as there's no way to be able to determine every possible state for a system to get itself into, and how the system might react to that state.

Its the sort of thing where if you saw what was going on from the inside you'd likely have a much different view of things. Unfortunately there's no real way for that to happen. The fact that even the best software developer in the world is still going to have bugs in their code is a fact thats lost on most people.

Another thing people also tend to fail to realize is that software developement is still a pretty young field of engineering, only really starting to emerge in the mid-1900's, as opposed to architecture which has been around since the first time a dude stacked a couple of rocks on top each other. Believe it or not we're still figuring things out.

The items fixed in the Xbox 360 update are:

Some players were unable to unlock the four achievements from Warden's Keep and the Stone Prisoner during the first four days of launch. These achievements will unlock properly once you sign in to your Xbox Live and EA accounts.

The Hopeless Romantic, Perfectionist and Recruiter achievements were not unlocking for some players. This issue has been resolved. To update and unlock these achievements automatically, load a saved game where the Warden has completed the requirements for these achievements.

* The Recruiter achievement will still require a recruitment to occur after the save is loaded. If you have completed all the requirements for Recruiter, and the achievement is still locked, load an earlier saved game where you are still able to recruit any party member. Once you have recruited a party member, the achievement should unlock. This should work even if your current saved game still has unrecruited characters, but you have recruited all of them in previous play.

When I was part of the CEP Team, we would test, then rewrite, then test, then rewrite,  all the time, until it was working just right.  Even then, somehow a bug or two would slip by us.  It's not easy to have a product that doesn't have a bug here or there in it, no mater how good you are.
This is one reason, that I'm waiting for the RTO to come out, and not whinning about how long it takes, because I've been on the same end that Bioware is, and I know what goes on to get a product out to the general public, that is right.
So many people expect them to just write the codes that are needed and have those codes, be right the first time.  That doesn't always happen, because some other code that you write, might not like the first code and you have to trace down, where the problem is, and work with it and get them to shake hands with each other so that what your trying to do works.
When DLA, CEP, and Bioware worked on the rideable horses, it took us months of working to get them to work right, and I still remember when testing, that I myself found a bug that had been overlooked, and so it was back to the drawning board once more to fix it, so that you the players didn't have that bug when you got the finally product.
Ok, enough on my part.

I'm very glad for the update.

Now, what is Bioware planning to do for those of us (on PC in my case) who:
- Had the RtO DLC show up as available for purchase in-game
- Had 400 points waiting
- Clicked on download
- Account debited 400 points, download stuck at zero percent
- Shut down the process and restarted (since the download was still stuck after ten minutes, probably due to there being no actual released content)
- Now have the DLC showing up in our registered content list on the social.bioware.com site
- Still are being told in-game that the DLC is available but that we don't have sufficient points to download it...

I'm uncomfortably certain that if RtO actually releases before this is resolved, I will *not* magically be able to download it without paying another $5 for something even Bioware says I already "own".

Is it really that hard for pc users to wait for 30min of play? I'm sorry but for those of you that still continue to complain while Bioware works their little buns off just boils my blood. It's a GAME. If you guys have nothing better to do than complain about this then you need to get lives instead of this DLC. Seriously.

Get over it.

Thanks for the update.

Btw; is there a new patch on the way? Tiny spoiler-> Really hope you can fix the Alistar-bugs that that appears if he is not chosen as king. They are a bit gamebreaking in my opinion. There are unofficial mods that fix this, but I would prefer to play the real game (not edited by some other person).

It was a bit disapointing to encounter all these bugs at the end when the game had been perfect until then.

Here is one of the unofficial mods - it lists the bugs:
