What the **** are you people talking about right now?

I read through the last page and it seems like we are way off-topic regarding a supposed leak to information we sort of knew but can't confirm.

So anyone taking bets that Cora and Drack were the two companions mentioned? I assume Drack at least due to the Krogan...

For some reason, the buxom blonde bit of info has completely derailed this thread... which I find kinda funny.

For some other reason, I have been under the impression that Cora was an asari (perhaps wrongly? - now where would I have gotten that from?). So if this latest "alleged leak" is to be believed, and we add the info from the previous leak, that gives us a third squadmate: the buxom blonde.

Or does it?

Don't get your hopes up. That and Cerberus are what people are complaining about.

I can understand complaining about Cerberus re-use.

Complaining about fact there might be a buxom blonde(without full details of her character) seems very sad.

I've always thought Cora might be human because it is a human name. Usually they give the aliens Sci Fi names

Check a few pages back. Some posters definitely took issue with the blonde character being described as "buxom."

Care to point out these alleged posts? I'm not able to find them.

Ha! This is where I got the idea that Cora was an Asari: http://www.eurogamer...s-effect-4-leak.

It may turn out that their analysis is faulty but it was well worth a read.

Given Bioware has developed a reputation of portraying female characters as sex objects, it's a reasonable concern.

None of the doomsaying going on in this thread is actually reasonable. This is an unconfirmed leak ffs. In other words, just a rumor.

They actually don't have that reputation, though.

However, considering Ashley I realize this is a sensitive topic for some.

Yes, they don´t.

I have a hard time imagining Cassandra´s being objectifed. But I can easily imagine what she would do if someone tried.

Agreed. I can't say I was a fan of the ME2 ass-shots (thought they were distracting/pointless), but I think it might be a stretch to say certain characters were simply sex objects.

I agree (that it's a reasonable concern, not that Bioware has that reputation). But I have to say I think Mass Effect is more prone to that then Dragon Age is. I think of characters like Miranda, EDI and even Samara and Liara and wonder if such a reputation doesn't have a grain of truth to it.

it'd be a concern regardless if she's buxom, or blonde, or if we knew anything about her.

about the leak, if Cerberus are back in i'm buying the game used or borrow it from a friend. I'm interested in seeing what they'll do in Andromeda, but not enough to have Cerberus again as the main antagonist.

I recall people joking about Cerberus being behind the Ark project. I'll laugh so hard if that's actually happening.

If they are responsible for the Ark Project, they actually did something right for the first time.

Planing for the extinction of one´s race isn´t a bad idea.

Oh, I know that. It's just that the IP will continue to focus on Cerberus one way or another and make them do things that are too big for what they were supposed to be. Mac was/possibly is too focused on Cerberus.

Offhand, I can't think of a single character in the trilogy that was reduced to a simple sex object.

They did, however, make some artistic choices that promoted visual sex appeal over any semblance of practicality or functionality of combat gear. In some cases, I feel that it undermined characterization. Walking into combat with a pair of coffee cans glued to your chest makes you look stupid and less competent, not sexy - as does exposing bare skin in hazardous environments.

Also - even Shepard had a wide, bubbly butt and bigger rack by ME3. I'd like to play a more athletic looking character going forward - the ME1 models and walk / run animations would suit me fine.

As for the buxom blonde - I don't care as long as her combat armor (if she's a combatant) looks reasonably practical and they don't require every female character to use the same body model.

(And the buxom isn't dangled in my face every time I'd need to talk to her.)

I agree. And it's amusing that Miranda's loyalty quest actually calls her out on how ridiculous her uniform is.

Cerberus´s face was TIM. Without him Cerberus could be exchanged with any other criminal organisation. Bringing it back without returning characters to give it distinction and a bit of we-will-meet-again-drama seems rather pointless.

They actually don't, the only characters that match this is Miranda (which makes sense) and ME3 Ashley

I did misspeak, I should have said Mass Effect has that reputation, not Bioware as a whole.

And it's not just Ashely, it's also Miranda, Samara, Jack, EDI, even Liara to some degree.

I don't get it... so they're attractive. What's wrong with that? How does that make them sex objects?

Is everyone woman with big ****** and a pretty face in the world a sex object? The characters in Mass Effect have personalities and depth, and some of them are attractive too because people (men and women) like to look at attractive things. It's not like Bioware was like "Here's Miranda, she's here for the sole purpose of having sex with you" or "We're giving EDI an attractive body so you all have something to jack over".

What would you have expected them to do? Make all the characters butt-ugly? Sure, that may be more realistic in some cases but it doesn't benefit gameplay or improve the game. I really don't see the problem with having the major females characters being attractive if they're going to be around all the time.

Seriously, get a grip

I think what he meant is:

Samara: A justicar, somewhere close to 1000, hunting her own daughter. Having a neckline(?) down to the navel doesn´t help with her mission and I am pretty sure the codex doesn´t allow to sleep with "evildoers" or informants, even if it would be helpful. And well combatant with  no armor but clothing which is open at the front.

Showing your boobs as a matriarch and law enforcement killer seems a bit weird. Is it some cultural thing that showing your cleavage as a matriarch is threatening to other asari or so?

Miri: No problem that she is sexy, but high heels in combat, clothing that gives her wedgies? Seems most people don´t have a problem with her being sexy but with the inpractical dress. And well the buttshots. If I am talking to someone, especially if it´s serious stuff, I don´t want to talk to the butt. Leave the check her out angles to stuff like flirting or trying to make a move. or as an indicator that she is making a move. A bit more subtle would be more sexy instead of this blunt show.

EDI: Why does my ship AI have a cameltoe? I get that she is fully functional as an infiltration unit but still.

Jack: Sorry, but this clothing is plain ridiculous with this nipple bra, especially when she says herself, showing too much in prison will get you unwanted attention.

It doesn´t really fit in most cases. As i said, a bit more subtlety here and there would be nicer.

They've never made a character a sex object. Sexualized definitely, but never a sex object. Every character Bioware has written, male and female, that have been sexualized bring a lot more to the table than just their physical appearance, thus not a sex object.

Although I'd bet on human, she could still turn out to be Asari. While Bioware usually uses Sci Fi names for the aliens, that always isn't the case. Aria and Samara are human names.
