I will have a bit a of time to work on my projects now that Thanksgiving break has begun. However, my 2011 Macbook Pro decided to develop the common GPU issue and I had to fix it with a heatgun. I believe I can get 3DS to work under wine, but the toolset seems a bit more tricky. My computer likes to heat up to over 200ºF when running these programs in Parallels, so that is not an option run now. I tried throttling the programs cpu usage, but that just makes things unusable.

I can start the toolset in a wineskin I made for NWN2, but when I try to view anything 3D (such as my models or areas), it is just a blank screen. Below are the components I installed for NWN2 to work, if anyone here has ideas as to what other Windows-based components I should try to install, please post here.

To Run NWN2:

directx9

dotnet2.0

vcrun2005

So I last attempted creating a Wineskin wrapper for NWN2 + Toolset back in 2012 though I started working on it in 2011.  I wasn't successful at getting the Toolset to work and in the end decided to wait for newer updates of Wineskin to try again.  Here is my post to the Wineskin support forum on this and here is my blog post with instructions on how to create my wrapper.  Of course there were other Wineskin's for NWN2 developed by PaulTheTall and by doh123 (developer of Wineskin) and then in 2012 by cluthz but they do not work with the Toolset either.

It looks like "PrimeJunta" tried this again in April 2013 and posted what he did here.  I think he could have saved himself "sweating quite a bit" if his Google-fu was a little better. He makes no mention of the toolset though so I think that was not his goal.

In general all of the wrappers require using winetricks to install directx9 and vcrun2005.  After that they vary a little. I used mono28 and dotnet20. You are using dotnet20. PrimeJunta is using mono210.

So I spent the day messing around with the current version of Wineskin Winery and tried to create a Wineskin wrapper that would run the NWN2 Toolset.  Unfortunately I was unsuccessful.  I can get the Toolset to start and if you mess around with the menus you can get the screen to appear and do some of the functions such as opening options and opening an existing module.  But any attempt to open an area from a module causes it to crash.  So I think it remains best to use Boot Camp if you want to use the Toolset.

My 2012 instructions for creating a wrapper were for installing from DVD's.  I expect most new players now will purchase NWN2 Complete from GOG.com instead so I have posted new instructions on my blog here.

Regards

I can get the toolset to start, and it does not crash when I open an area. All it does is display blank blackness in the area where 3D content would be displayed. I do not like bootcamp, so it will probably be awhile before I do more modding.

I already have NWN2 running really well in my own winewrapper, I can even run it with everything on highest and very little lag. I have been playing it like that for years. The Mac port was terrible. Aspyr should be ashamed of that shoddy piece of junk job.

Thanks for posting the information anyway.

Unfortunately then, I'm thinking then that it may be time for the HotU project to go into hiatus. I do have another module in mind, so I'll see about focusing on that instead.
