This being biower, I fully expect synthetic romances to be the only ones that we are allowed in ME:A given that it would be the natural progression of our relationship with machines from ME1>2>3 (robots are evil and must be shot on site> you can choose to have a robot squadmate or not if you want> you are forced to tolerate an irritating sexbot running your whole ship).

You do know that the voice actress of EDI looks like this in real life, face and body, I mean, don´t you?

I don't recognize Tricia Hefler's face on EDI, but unless she's had major cosmetic surgery since I last saw her, EDI's body sure isn't the same.

I can't help but hear EDI's reply about how it would be impossible for the material she's made of to rust, sort of like Legion's mention of geth being made primarily of polymers when told it'd be turned into scrap metal.

It seems that the promotional picture of T. Hefler in Battlestar Galactica fell victim to BioWare Mod 2. A shame. If you are interested you could google it. It´s impossible to miss. She wears a red dress and has her hair blond on those photos and looks strikingly like EDI.

As for the OP, eh sure. Why not? But, as mentioned previously, I don't want to see a User/Object Master/Slave situation and that might be hard to pull off. Sure, it works for Joker and EDI, but we, as players, aren't controlling Joker.

Yep I feel similarly. I think solution would be squadmate who is Synthetic, but has been their own master sometime already so there is no "synthetic discovering that s/he is person" story arc like Legion and EDI had. Instead we would see ending result of that self-discovery.

I think love between an organic and a synthetic lifeform would be very interesting to explore. We're just talking about a connection between two sentient beings. The attraction between consciousness and consciousness. Traditional romance involves merging with the other physically as well, but this might not be very relevant in a romance between a machine and a human.

 

The movie Her (2013) does a nice job showing us that the physical aspects of love isn't necessarily essential for the development of love between two conscious entities - in this case a man and a machine.
