Question, do you have ffdshow audio and video decoders on your PCs? It has definitely caused issues with other games so I usually add the exception to them.
It gets installed with codec packs like K-Lite.
Programs are
ffdshow audio decoder
ffdshow video decoder
add exceptions from "DirectShow control"
make sure "Don't use FFDShow in:" is checked and add the masseffect2.exe from the binaries folder from the edit button. I usually add exceptions to both.
No idea if this will help but I figured it might.

Don't think that an issue for me uninstalled K-lite when I began to have trouble (which is since I first tried to play on release day)

to be honest, mass effect 2 only uses like 60% of my processor when its working fine. its just the stupid movies that bug out the game

Any thoughts on this?

I'm running ME2 from Steam all drivers updated
Processor: Intel® Core™2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs)
4gigs ram
mobo: Gigabyte 965P-DS3
sound: Realtek HD Audio output
graphics: 8800gt
DirectX 9.0c

Stuttering during videos is awful, with lesser stuttering during the game when a lot is going on (when battles start is the worst, or loading new areas, esp outdoors).

BUMP! Would love a fix.

I've tried disabling audio hardware acceleration but that makes the issues worse. I've updated all my drivers. This is really a pain.

ouch, you have intel processor, and dual core?

Do you stutter AFTER prerendered .bik movies or during them? the prerendered ones work fine for me its only after them i have to save reload to fix stutter.

Ya memory leak is quite possible, through I think in this situation cpu overload is more plausible.
----------------------

But anyway can people who get cutscene stuttring please post their spec in this tread please so we can differentiate more easily from those who simply get loading screen freeze. Would be appreciate for could help Bioware find a solution if the loading screen fix don't come to correct the cutscene one (in other word in casse they happen to not be related, through I admit for now much chance they are for loading screen are also bink file)

Hey. I got the same exact problem too. And after this cut scene it continues in game and not just the cut scene. Although when the actual cinematic kicks in of the ship being attacked and everyone running around frantically is fine. The next cut to when Liara (In my case, not sure about anyone else since I was able to import my game) runs through the fire to Shepard is entirely stuttering and to top it off. After that entire scene; Its still stuttering when I'm moving around on the ship.

This whole issue is BS. I will deeply reconsider ever buying another Bioware game for the PC again.

Stuttering is mostly during prerendered movies, they are unwatchable.  But the frame rates and sound take a big dip when loading a new area or entering combat.  FPS is usually very smooth, and switching to 800x600 resolution and turning off all graphic options doesn't fix this, so I'm certain my computer is up to snuff.

 If nobody has tried this yet, Defrag your HDD. Use this one, if you don't want to use the XP defrag or are running Vista/W7.

Also another option is disabling any AntiViri (AVG, Norton, etc) and any real-time spyware applications.

That kind of stuttering can be due to heavy HDD fragmentation, slow read times (on an old drive or one with little headroom available) or running background applications that continuously access the drive.

i take that back.. its no Physx related.. the physx threads stays at 0 cpu.

all the cpu goes to
MassEffect2.exe!GImage::GImage+0x95948
not the PhysXCore.dll!NpCreatePhysicsSDK+0x223ae

BUT its 100000000% sure that its not based on the GPU!
All the time its stutters my GPU stays the same temperature. If the GPU is under stress it goes above 20-30 degrees.

Now it stays the same degrees like when using windows.

Only the CPU is stressed !!!

Hope this helps BIOWARE!

Look at the CPU optimization. this is cousing the problem. Its not he GPU AT ALL.

Just to add..  FOR the BIOWARE TECHS !
:wizard:
everything is fine while MassEffect2.exe!GImage::GImage+0x5509F0
and MassEffect2.exe!GImage::GetHSI+0x1026d8
share the same amounth of CPU time around 50% each.

But as soon as the camera ZOOMS off the burning planet(in the intro cut scene)
MassEffect2.exe!GImage::GImage+0x5509F0 goest to 100% and there is NO CPU left for the
MassEffect2.exe!GImage::GetHSI+0x1026d8

and every 3-5 second the poor MassEffect2.exe!GImage::GetHSI+0x1026d8 handle to squeeze 10-15% cpu and move the pictures with 1 frame.:whistle:

Hope this helps !!!!!!! :P

ohh well now i know what the problem is!

1. IF you are Dual core user and you are experiencing the problem!
This is becaouse you system(win) does not recognize that you are with 2 or more cores.
SO look out a way to make your win see that its a multicore CPU ! (look around hardware guide sites)

2). If you are a single core user.
Well you are screwed! :) like me :)
There WONT be any fix because the game itself is running two(main) threads that require CPU
GImage::GetHSI + !GImage::GImage
so no fix for this yet. And i think BIOWARE wont relese either.
THey said that the game min req is DUAL CORE :(

so here you go.
this is the sad situation.
sad.. sad day indeed

my spec's

2.4 ghz AMD ALTHLON i think (single core)

2 gigs ram

9800 Gt 512 mb Nivida card

soundblaster

Xp SP3

i run game at max *shadows off and can do a res of 1440 by 900 no lag in game what so ever runs smooth ( obviuolsy 30+ fps i never noticed ANY fps lagg at all) lol

only thing that kills me is the transition from movie.bik file to normal game then massive stuttering had to do the loading screen fix cuase id always freeze when making a new game

and it cant be an Cpu overload if it was nothing would responed it just sit there and do nothing ( no mouse movement) ... it just seems after a .bik ... cpu only useing 50k mem instead of the 600k

like the prerendered movie dont use much Power but then it goes to the game ( NOT prerendred ) and it wont rampe up its Memory uses-age

thats my 2 cents

WHAT WHY 2 CORES when I can PLAY THE COMBAT AND EVERYTHING ELSE FINE 2 CORES JUST FOR CUTSCENCE THIS IS STUPID ....if i can play the game part with no issue i should get a dam patch ....and ive heard many pll say yes my system knows i have 2 cores ...../posts

sry for caps lol

stuttering during prerendered scenes isn't what this thread is about unfortunately, they all play fine like watching movies on our systems, make a new thread to get help with your issue

no its not dual cores required, the whole game runs fine on max settings, like, everything max, just going from .bik movies to game again requires reload or its unplayable

yeah

Movies=ok

after the movie =stutter

reload = fix and can keep playing

next movie=reload again

after you stutter attempt to save of course

this has no issue with (Your computer has dual cores but isnt seeing the other or) you have a single core and your %@#% /post

thing is i PLAY THE game fine just movies are what makes stutter and thats what everyone else is having problems with

Try adding /usepmtimer to the parameters in boot.ini and then reboot.

Example, so it reads something like this.
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /FASTDETECT /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /USEPMTIMER

http://blogs.technet...e-boot-ini.aspx

Another thing you can try is disable AMD Cool'n'Quiet technology in the BIOS.
Seems features like Cool & Quiet / Speed Step can cause problems.
Nevermind all the \\\\\\\\\\ forum messes those up for some reason.

Might test that out once I come back from work if no one did so before I get home.
