So, I came up with this quick theory.

Hey guys,

Yesterday I was just thinking about this game and the timeline issue and I kinda came up with a little something which I will try to explain as best I can.( English is not my first language)

We all know  the events will be far removed and detached from Commander Shepard and we have all theorized about it.We have mentioned the events could be taking place in parallel to the Reaper Wars, shortly after/shortly beofre  or even hundreds or thousands of years after.I was watching the N7 Day teaser and the new concept art and I couldn't shake the feeling that the whole Pathfinder / Arkcon stuff has been going on for years.Of course it must have.We all sit here and talk about how it's not possible to do something like that in few short years but what if it the whole thing has been going on for a century?

Hear me out, BioWare confirmed this is a humancentric story right?

I think they will have the Pathfinder Initiative (or whatever they end up calling it) being founded as soon as humans discovered the relays and the other races. As a organization  set on exploring and only.

Also about the Ark.What if an Ark plan was being devised and worked on years before the discovery of the relays (e.g. the 2070s) ?To help at least save a portion of the human race in the case of global extinction level event.Maybe that plan was half done and "put to ice", lacking of course the appropriate tech pre Relay Incident and then not being needed since humans expanded to other planets. That same plan could have been secretly worked on later or put to use when the Reaper Invasion was imminent.

It would make sense if such a ship like the one we saw in the trailer was being worked on for 100-150 years.

They could have worked on it since the fall of Roman Empire, but it doesn't matter since they didn't have the technology to reach Andromeda anyway.

The Crucible was made in a few short weeks/months by the combined races of the MW. There's no reason to believe that an ARK ship couldn't be built (retrofitted?) in a relatively short period of time as well. It's like that line in the movie Contact: "Why build one when you can build two for twice the price?" (Or something like that...?)

Maybe they will go all "Star Trek Voyager" with it.  Ya know...some super alien has a hissy-fit and accidently warps a ship into the delta-quadrant (err...to Andromeda). A little space magic and voila!  Story time!

Thing is, Star Trek Voyager was pretty damned good, despite the silly reason thay were stranded out in the middle of nowhere.  Relationhips between people on the ship coupled with exploration = one of the most engaging Star Treks since the orginal. (just my opinion, o-course! ;) )

So...my point here is that as long as we have cool charcaters, good stories, and some fun gameplay...I really don't care how we get there. For me, it won't in any way affect my enjoyment of the game (well...as long as the game is actually good...ohhh...I hope it's good....)!

That would explain Nero madness he was clearly indoctrinated.

Is curious how people knows an amazing story about science fiction from start to end and can't imagine a new one about exploring and conquer.

Personally I still think our character and ship left to Andromeda somewhere before ME3. This because Commander Shepard sent us off (in trailer) and I doubt we would have left during war with reapers (though this is possible I think it's unlikely) and we couldn't have left after ME3 at least since most Shepards are dead then. I think our ship left to Andromeda when Shepard was still alive and with Alliance. I'd say that most likely time is between ME1 and ME2 since Shepard was with Alliance then and respected by council and pretty much everyone. I doubt they would otherwise have chosen her/him to sent the message for team leaving Milky Way.

Then devs have said that time between ME3 and ME:A is so long that most of characters of ME1-3 wouldn't be alive anymore so likely over hundred year then at least. Now that would mean that either our team has been in statis, ice or sth without getting much older than dying during the trip or the ship is quite big and we have had generations of people within the ship meaning that our characters have born in the ship and have never seen Milky Way. Or one option is that the ship has arrived in Andromeda ages ago and our character has born there with her/his squad.

This is an interesting theory but I don't think it holds much weight in terms of the evidence we have at hand since IIRC BioWare has explicitly stated that this will be a sequel and that the events will be taking place AFTER the reaper war. That doesn't mean that they haven't been working on this beforehand, just that the events are not gonna be occurring at the same point in time as the original trilogy.

or, Star Gate Universe - the ship was made by some ancient alien race and found "floating" somewhere on the verges of the galaxy.

we've found relays so why not ancient derelict from another galaxy?

They do though, thanks to Isaac Newton. Really, all they would need would be cryo that lasted a sufficiently long time, or - if that's not an option - a generation ship. Set it into motion at sublight speeds and momentum would carry them to Andromeda.

But at non-relativistic speeds, it would take millions of years. I actually calculated how long it would take at various relativistic speeds in another thread awhile ago, and it can be accomplished in a lifetime or so but with enormous (like astronomical) energy requirements..

So, they could go several clever ways with it, within existing lore. But I think it will be irrelevant ultimately because they will probably use the mass effect and handwave away the lore-breaking difficulties with it, like the discharge problem.

A question has been bouncing around in my head lately: How are we supposed to get around Andromeda once we get there?

The answer to that question will almost certainly be fundamental to the plot, I think.

My assumption has been that we'll be limited to the Helios Cluster and rely on standard mass effect drives to get about.
