But no one really likes damage, damage, rockets with power damage passives?
I love both. Why don't you guys like rocket build?
We will agree to disagree then
So everyone loves explode shock lightning but passives don't matter.

I guess for a non optimal build it would be fine. Optimal is certainly boring many times ..
Tough to imagine it being as effective as a drone which constantly harasses and stuns enemies while you spam multi chain overloads followed by incinerates.

Because the rocket drone doesn't work properly. The rocket only fires at range, so the drone moves away from enemies in melee range to fire it. That costs a lot of time, often doesn't work and the damage isn't worth it.
Also, my engineer has all the power damage passives.
Since you have two engineers you can build one with Drone, and one without Drone.
To echo what Salarian Master Race said, the no-Drone Engineer with Claymore (or your preferred hard-hitting weapon) is very, very good too.
Does chain lightning do appreciable damage, or is it mostly useful for stunning mooks?
It has been quite a long time since I specc'd for 6 in Drone, and I believe I used to spec for rocket most of the time.

Not really, it's more about crowd control.
Not really, it's more about crowd control.
And totally pissing off Geth primes.
Just pick the Male Quarian
Lolarcgrenades>>>> Overlol'd
Tacscan>> trolldrone (which they obviously stole from us anyway)
quarian passives> human (at least for power damage characters)
quarian fitness> human
quarian omnidirectional hop> dumb human sideways only mall ninja roll thing
quarian godlike Adonis ratio and smexy accented comments about soup> boring human whateverness
Plus he rocks the Claymoar, far, far better due to only having like 1 lolcooldown, and is therefore objectively superior by the most important metric in the game.
The missile does a couple things that make it a bit less viable. Firstly, it has a hidden minimum range, the Drone now moves away from enemies rather than towards them. So if you do take Detonate and Rocket you're doing yourself a massive disfavor. Granted that doesn't matter if you're taking shields/dmg...
However there's another bigger problem. The Drone will either hit walls with it by accident or the Drone will target enemies on the other sides of walls on purpose and just blindly try to wallhack it's rockets.
I'll post a couple things direct from the wiki.
The area-of-effect shock attack provided by the eponymous rank 5 evolution has enough force to stagger moderately strong enemies with an attack cooldown of 5 seconds. In multiplayer, it has enough force to stagger all but the hardiest of enemies, even Phantoms, with an attack cooldown of 3 seconds.
The rank 5 Shock attack is independent of the rank 6 Chain Lightning attack. The Chain Lightning evolution directly affects the drone's default "zap" attack. The Shock evolution gives the drone an additional type of attack. In other words, despite a common misconception online, the Chain Lightning evolution will not let the rank 5 Shock attack chain to multiple enemies.
The chaining effect provided by the rank 6 Chain Lightning evolution has a maximum range of 10m. In addition, despite the in-game wording, the evolution lets the drone hit 3 total targets, not 3 additional targets.
So between chained Zaps that can stagger and Shocks that can stun you can lock down a spawn. Then you have the Detonate evo.
Detonates can also detonate Tech Bursts. (Shock/Zap cannot I believe) So primed enemies will first be stunned, or staggered. Then when they finally can hit the Drone, it Detonates doing a chunk of damage, then detonating the Tech Burst which will likely finish the job, and the friends of the job that were standing around.
The area control/damage possible from taking those three evo's is ridiculous. On top of that, it's keeping your Drone from bugging out. It does require you to be dropping your Drone more consistently. What I find is that I Overload less, and Drone more. I think of Drone as a bit of an Overload time-bomb. The fuse is dependent upon how well I place it. I want it to be Detonating as much as possible. That means I'm aiming it towards enemies I know can attack it. Geth Primes already mentioned, are hilarious. They love this thing. But they aren't my favourite thing to toy with.
Phantoms. Primarily this works best on the volus due to cloak, but still can manage on the engineer. A Phantom is running for you. You Drone her, and (momentarily) get out of LoS. The Drone zaps her in the back. She dun like that...
So she turns around. SHOCK. She staggers.
Oh, oh dear. She's mad now. (time to get back into LoS and sight up)
*swipe* She slashes her steak-knife across the Drone.
BOOM Drone Detonates. Staggered Phantom. Shoot, kill. Done.
Or if you're like me and maaaybe a bit vindictive towards those of the Phantom persuasion... I'll just reDrone her and watch it all over again. (If I have the time for a show near the end of the wave.) I think my record is 3 Drones before she died or I got bored.
***
The trick is dropping the Drone so that it dies fast getting those fast Detonations, and keep dropping it consistently. It's not a prepatch Decoy, although it serves that function in periods. It's a momentary area stun/shock/immobilize.
I just don't think the rocket can measure up to that, particularly if it's bugging out. And more-so if you have Tech teammates that are priming for you.
No drone. It's pointless with chain overload.

All of that sounds great but I dunno why anyone would take a male quarian anywhere.
If I'm going to take a quarian out it's for the hips. ![]()
Even if the soldier has Adam Baldwin's shoulders...
Dalakaar put it perfectly. Throw in an easy-mode stagger stick like the Falcon or Venom and you can have literally every mook on the map staggered and/or primed.
No drone. It's pointless with chain overload.
Are you kidding? Throw an exploding drone at a group of phantoms, hit them with chain overload, let them destroy drone and get a tech burst on themselves. Finish them off with your gun as they are all staggered with no barriers and half health.
Throw it at two primes and then throw an incinerate/overload at them and they get a fire explosion/tech burst on themselves while facing away from you allowing you lots of free shots at them.
Throw it at a banshee when she stops teleporting to make her scream instead of throw warp balls, then as she starts to scream, throw an incinerate/overload at her so her nova explodes the drone and gets a fire explosion/tech burst on herself. All the while giving you free shots at her since she's not throwing warp balls.
Drop it next to yourself to cover your back and stagger and light up surprise hunters, making them easy to chain overload.
Drop it next to yourself during the end wave rush in conjunction with chain overload to keep those pesky mooks from overrunning you.
Throw it at the last nemesis, just because it's funny.
Detonate drone is amazing.
Okay, now I'm wondering how much I need my 3 fitness. Maybe even my rank 6 weapon damage.
Can't bring myself to give up rank 6 Incinerate or Overload.

I use the drone when doing objectives, and toss it into spawns. It just makes it a little easier when mooks are distracted.

Give up ranks in drone past Detonate.

Why don't you see for yourself? It works when camping.

Go fitnessless - you won't really notice the difference and can keep all the power evos.
Go fitnessless - you won't really notice the difference and can keep all the power evos.
Especially if you plan on taking a Cyclonic 3 or 4, since that with 0 Fitness will still put you over the 990 threshold for beating Shield Gate vs the most common threats. Essentially the game becomes a 2HP system to break your Shields at that point, e.g. Marauder shoots you for 938 Damage with 0 Fitness and no Cyclonic, breaks your Shields in one hit - Marauder shoots you for 938 Damage with 0 Fitness and Cyclonic 3, you have 62 Shields left and he must shoot you a second time to break your Shields. The 325 Shields that full Fitness would have given you make absolutely no difference, as they are not enough to beat Shield Gate from his second attack.
Basically if he shoots you the second time, it doesn't matter if you have 62 Shields or 387 Shields, the result will be you hit Shield Gate and negate the rest of the damage anyway.
Against higher damage attacks such as Geth Hunter, you essentially have a 3HP system:
1st hit breaks Shields
2nd hit hits Health Gate
3rd hit downs
Assuming you stack enough Shields to beat Shield Gate on the 1st attack, you now have a 4HP system:
1st hit drains most, but not all Shields
2nd hit Breaks Shields
3rd hit hits Health Gate
But in this scenario, you survive. Damage reduction also plays a factor in this, so you can have lower Shields with some form of Damage Reduction to the same net effect. But that's not Vanilla Human Engie related so is just more for future reference.
Go fitnessless - you won't really notice the difference and can keep all the power evos.
That's certainly the obvious choice, although I can say from experience that in spite of conventional wisdom, I have always noticed the difference between no fitness and three fitness in Gold, even on 500 Health/shield characters.
I think it may have to do with the fact that I'm not necessarily so great at positioning myself to avoid damage completely. I used to be, years ago, before I became a score-whore. But thanks to my score-Scroogery, I tend to rely on my ability to stagger/kill opponents at a pace faster than their pace at taking me down.
And if that's how one does it, 3 ranks in fitness, even on 500 health/shields, makes a very noticeable difference. It's an extra moment to dodge, and extra moment to finish killing your opponent, an extra burst that is too late to stop your grenade.
I'll probably tool around with all 3 options over the next while that I experiment with Hengy, but I think I'd try dropping weapon damage in rank 6 passives before rank 3 fitness, especially if it increases combo opportunities (something I haven't really tried using the drone for in the past, but tend to prefer most of the time on other kits.)

That's sounds fun. I do something similar but not quite. Have to try that next time I find myself MPing. Got stuck on SC2's last installment but finished it a few days ago.

I shove a Salarian Decoy in her face, then feed her Cryo Ammos and Incinerates
