is it me or is the "last" shard in the Hinterlands unattainable with keyboard and mouse ? In about 50 attempts I have yet to be able to jump high enough... even using The Iron Bull... so I have to use one of the shards of Jaws of Hakkon to open the last door of the temple !

Near the Dragon, up on some rocks? You need many small jumps. It's tedius, it works rather poorly, but I got it twice now. It's possible.

You can definitely get it, it just takes some tricky jumping to reach it. I did it on m&k ages ago so it's quite doable, but as Serza said, it's fairly awkward to do.

My first playthrough, I didn't bother with the shards, but on subsequent playthroughs, I've attained every single one, and the one on top of the rock pillar surrounded by dragonlings is by far the worst. It takes about 5 jumps to reach it, but I never do on my first attempt. I always fall off the thing at least four times first. It's infuriating. And the one in the Exalted Plains that you have to jump a doorway to reach can go suck an egg.

This is where some basic parkour skills would come in handy, right?  I always find this last shard easier with a lady inquisitor or Sera rather than a male inquisitor.

What does the platform you're playing on have to do with it?

The first time I played this map, getting this shard was so frustrating I was tempted to throw my computer out of the window. Now that I know the jump sequence, I can do it almost without fail.

I still hate that part. Jumping puzzles are annoying.

Getting the shard is doable with Keyboard and mouse. It can be very tricky. It requires doing small jumps to reach it.

It took me forever to get it the first time but with once you get the hang of it, it'll be easier in later games. It's also easier if you've already killed all the baby dragons  :(  so that your PC isn't trying to jump down and fight while you are trying to get the shard.

Shardquistion: The shardting of Thedas

Game of the year 2014

Story and NPC's were just wasted filler compared to the wonderful quest for the holy shards

Give DA4 10 times more shards to unlock the temple of derp

And don't forget more bottles of Thedas

Maybe some shardbears, sharddragons, and a final shard boss you can never reach would be shardgastic!

It's like playing super mario (but much harder :D :( ) in a DA game.
Or maybe this is a super mario game with more stories !

Anyone can point me to the right direction as how to get it? :(

Here's a video for all 4 shards in that area:

The one on the rocks starts around 2:30

Wow Melbella, greatly appreciate it ;)

I know I don't have to pick every bloody piece of shard out there to complete the game (especially after knowing how the occulara was made. Ugh..), but not getting it feels like an itch I just can't scratch

I will try this thingy the moment I'm home :) (and after the kids are a sleep..)

Btw thanks a million <3

You're welcome! :) That one is a royal pain. Even knowing how to do it, I still fall off at least once every time. <_<

But you DO have to get every shard to complete the game (or at least "I" do). I almost enjoy getting them now.  :P

Using a controller on PC I actually found some of the little treasures in the Exalted Plains to be much harder to get to compared to the shard on the pillars in the Hinterland. I'm talking about where you have to walk up a broken wall and along a beam to reach something on a roof or broken 2nd story floor. The pillar jump in the Hinterlands I usually do in one or two tries. Sometimes if you miss a landing there you can keep clicking the jump button and try and correct yourself.

Yeah try playing some of the old Tomb Raider games if you want frustration. In those games your friend Lara will die because of your incompetance then you will have to repeat about 2 minutes of platforming and jumping sequences to get back to your last spot.

Don't mention the jumping/climbing for shards thing, it drives me nuts.  This is definitely one of the things they should have omitted from the game, it adds nothing but frustration.

There is a quest in the Hinterlands at the caves where you need to kill the wolves.  It seems to be on top of a rock pillar and I have yet to find a solution.  Anyone have any tips?

Not everyone liked Q-Bert (I certainly didn't), but I can usually get it in three attempts.

One of the problems is actually the turning animation as it tends to shift the char forward a step or two when all you wanted is to turn in one spot. This inevitably makes the char fall off.  The other is that the surface of the stones are rather small. The devs should have widened them since the jump, turn animation is not as fluid as other games (GW2).

I've to say tho, after the initial attempts, I don't have much problems with the ungainly / awkward jumps.

Note to devs, please do improve the jump animation. I don't want to see frogs again in DA4. :P

I think you are referring to the little box of loot, cross the leftmost bridge and go to the left. It is there to loot.

I've been able to get it with any elf, or human female. The rest seem too bulky to make it w/o falling off the narrow places with KBM controls. I hate doing that one though so, usually use Cheat Engine to give me that one shard rather than spend an hour jumping for it.

There is a dirt ramp that leads up to that level. You can then cross the wooden bridges to get to the loot boxes and the grenade belt for one of the side quests. There is no shard up there. The only other loot of note is the mosaic piece further back in the den cave.
