Do you think imperialism will be a theme in Mass Effect: Andromeda?

So no Dances With Wolves or Avatar?
Ick.
Edit: The bioluminescence from Avatar would be cool, though.

Hopefully it would be, with theme exploring how building cribs to cement our rule in our new homeland is just as important as building armaments.

I seriously hope not. I would only want to inhabit places that don't already contain living species of random aliens (unless they weren't civilized, like say, a places with creatures like thresher maws.)
I suppose, to force your will on other (civilized species, capability of communication), would be more of a renegade decision, so I wouldn't mind if they implemented the choice.
But speaking for myself, however, I wouldn't want to disadvantage another race of beings, simply for my own to benefit.
This is topic I hope andromeda would touch. You can be nice and not even interfere or you can trade, or you can just take it by force. You would be great role play opportunity's.
Add something like you forced to have this resource or someone you care dies. And nice aliens have it but they will not give it to us because they need it too. And we decide what to do. Yes I know it's cliche I don't care simpsons did everything.

We will likely subjugate them all, and in the future, they'll all celebrate Space Thanksgiving.

Would not be easy.
We are the Khet guardians of Andromeda. They will fight against evil aliens.

I imagine a race with perpetual wat face and lives on a planet that actually rains Spanish rice would be pretty formidable.

Refugees? *snorts*
Hardly.
It's more akin to state sponsored colonization

I could see the potential for such in later games, but at the start it's hard to imagine we'll have the resources to take more than a planet or two, let alone pacify an entire sector of space...unless the Helios Cluster just so happens to be populated with a bunch of races at preindustrialized or earlier stages of development. Now game one could lay a good foundation for such depending on whether we use diplomatic or aggressive means of establishing ourselves.

Refugees don't come on their own dreadnought fully armed. It's more like tribal migration in Dark Ages, when they were forced out of their territories to conquer some other land far away.

I'd certainly like to see confrontational choices that allow for a more imperial feel alongside more diplomatic responses.

No, simply because expansion takes time. A time scale WAY outside of anything feasible in a game of this scope. Expansion is also driven by population numbers. There isn't going to be billions of people from the milky way to pressure that expansion.
Remember that between colonization and expansion across North America took hundreds of years. It doesn't happen overnight. That was one continent. Inter-planetary expansion is on a whole different time scale.

The ship is probably armed but we don´t know how much. All the space you could fill with weapons, you could also fill with living quarters, storage space, favbrication systems or whatever else is needed for setting up camp. Yeah, weapons are important, too, but I don´t expect the main ship bristling with weapons like it´s a real warship.

I've been planning to make a similar thread actually. I don't think it will involve actual dominant imperialism, but I am concerned that there might be parallels with western colonization and tension with less advanced native species.
I really hope they avoid anvilicious allegories.
This is ME. I'm almost certain anything in there will be totally unintentional and completely miss the point.

How much would be enough for you? They managed to fit in Thanix capable of cruiser destruction between sauna and bar on SR-2. I'm sure they'll find some place on dreadnought+ sized ship.

It's going to be Little House on the Space Prairie.
... not that much scope for Imperial Jackboots.

I certainly don't want it done in a heavy handed manner but I'll be equally concerned if there aren't parallels with colonisation and tensions with native species to be negotiated/overridden.

What we saw there was only part of the weapon or do you think the missiles were fired through the crew quarters? I also haven´t seen the actual missiles in storage. But yeah ok, seems that you can pack weapons with quite a punch even into frigates.

Why? Tensions with indigenous people are one thing, but a guilt ridden parallel with the subjugation of natives by western society would be something altogether different. I'm very much hoping that if I ever have a moment in this game that makes me go: "This reminds me so much of Avatar," it's purely visual.

I'll be happy so long as I can give the hapless aliens of Andromeda blankets laced with an advanced form of the genophage.

See the best way to handle a theme like this is to present it in as neutral light as possible, and then let the players decide how they would approach it.
But if the treatment of the Genophage and Rannoch arcs in ME3 are any indication, then I don't think such a theme could be handled well. I would prefer to have no exploration of the subject than for the game to tell me how I should feel about subject Y, and that I am wrong and/or a bigot if I feel differently.
