This is a known glitch, but not known to the many new volus players, esp. on silver.

 

When a teammate is loading his weapon, doing a shield boost locks up the weapon, and random other stuff as well. And it's pretty hard to clear the lock.

 

I was using a claymore on London/gold with a volus spamming shield boost, and I had to reload after every shot. Most of the time, my next shot was a dud, until I cleared it. With my character, I only had to heavy melee to do that, but it really gimped my contribution.

 

I just finished a silver game with a slayer/hurricane. When shield boost while I was reloading locked up this kit, everything got locked up, all powers, all dodges, both melees and both weapons. I couldn't get it cleared, except by dying and getting revived. That was a pain. 

 

So, just sayin'......................

Just kidding, globally I would sign your petition. Besides a few situations mainly involving tricky objectives, Shield Boost spam must be avoided.

I will Shield Boost when and where I like. Stick your Shield Boost hate where the sun doesn't shine. I do not tell you how to play your character. I prefer Volus who actually use their damned power, because I don't like having to revive them all the damned time.

 

Or maybe I should, go play no-fitness drell. Stop using that claymore.

In reality, totally valid complaint by the op.  Shield boost is a great ability and useful to the team as long as the volus is not spamming the heck out of it, at which time it is totally counter productive.

Heavy Melee clears the lock. Unless you're a Volus, ironically.

To be fair Volus kind of needs to spam shield boost to stay alive. Particularly on gold. If they gave them more health and shield wouldn't be as needed.

Taking evolution 4b in Shield Boost presumably mitigates this somewhat, as the volus' squadmates are less likely to be caught within the radius.  That's in-character for a volus anyway, they're selfish capitalists, they're not going to just give shields away!

 

The default 5m radius is pretty large though.

I've had the lock happen to my volus a few times.  I think switching to missiles (not firing them lol) and using the other powers help unlock.

Agree with OP. Volus players should learn to spam their cloak instead of shield boost.

Too bad the Krogan croquet thug can't drive them shield boost spamming vermin into spawns and lock up the enemies. That would increase my tolerance level of crappy Volus players slightly.

Bleeding out helps for him. If you are able to get killed. Had the AI ignore me once completely and I led the Geth charge against my teammates for two waves.

Ok no worries, hope I didn't come off like a jerk. Maybe what I should've said was many people are surprised that given the right setups and load outs, the volus can be pretty decent offensively too.
