Volus have multiple sources of DR that can be cycled, meaning that their 500 shields can go a lot further than 500 shields goes on most vanilla characters.
They can achieve 100% DR, eliminating all damage temporarily. They can also give themselves i-frames using Shield Boost, and even avoid synch-kills if the animation timing fits within the i-frame window.
They can do a lot more, too, but I'll stop there because I'm only responding to your comment that they cannot absorb direct damage. I probably could have thrown a dart at the screen to pick something to respond to.
This is the thing though. To gain access to that level requires dealing with game actions that are very close to game exploits to gain that power. How you justify using game exploits is completely irrelevant to the topic. The fact still remains you are able to gain that level damage taking by using exploits in the volus character.
Your entire counter argument against volus being rightly set up for more support role set up. Which should have more points rewarded for doing that in this game. Is that you are capable of exploiting the volus character mechanics to gain high damage reduction rivaling if not surpassing characters make to take massive amounts of damage. And it doesn't really matter how you justify using said exploits to boost their defensive and thus offensive powers. They are still exploits.
The funny thing is that exploits more often then not are not directly obvious nor does the game draw attention to them most of the time. And players not aware of said exploits often can not or choose not to use them for various reasons that can be different for each player. So to claim my statement that Volus should be and quite frankly are set up to be support/defensive because you know how to exploit the character is wrong. Really doesn't seem to stack up to me.
The reason players spam shield boost is because volus can't take damage the same way other characters can. Once shields are gone Volus is basically one hit kill. They stick near other players because without best gear unlocked. Which not all players have they can't function very well alone if they get surrounded. Different players have different skill levels so the over all ability to kill varies from player to player.

Kind of missed the point I was making. By a lot actually. There is a mentality that develops with all groups by showing similarities with other game community. Highlighting my previously post.
To sum it up it generally goes like this.
-Players develop self create what they consider a consensus on how things should be done
-A new player pops up and states ideas that don't like up completely or directly contradict the established consensus.
-Older players naturally claim the new idea is bad or not good because it goes against the established set up that they feel works.
-New player refuses to back down. Sure that their idea while different is still good. Displaying the same level of stubbornness and unwillingness to change as older players do.
-Older players then seeing the new player will not accept their logic and view of things call them a troll. Proceed to ostracize them for not thinking just like they do.
It is a cycle that plays out countless time in countless set ups.
I fully admitted I was wrong about volus not having a double cloak after I tested it out for myself. But I still stand by the fact that the exploits that lets the volus tank as well as a Geth Jugger shouldn't exist and they should fit the niche role of defensive support. This includes the removal of the bug that causes players to lock up if hit by shield ability to often. Which I am apparently wrong and a troll for thinking this. I likened this set up to Runescape were after 3 years of monsters being vastly under powered for what players are capable of doing. So advocating and supporting the rare time the developer actually buffs monsters to slightly more appropriate levels. There is a barrage of players declaring me a troll. Or that what I say the majority of the game players don't want. Which is a bit ironic because the biggest complaint shortly after EoC update went live was how weak the monsters were.
TL;DR
I'm using it to draw parallel between two different games with players displaying the same mentality that excludes anyone thinking differently then them.
The real issue is you are no good with Volus, therefore it is you who are broken.Again...L2P.
^^^^^^^^^^ Had to trim it a bit...but my thoughts exactly.
"Creative use of game mechanics." Exact words from BioWare ME3 developers.None of your arguments are legitimate. The real issue is you are no good with Volus, therefore you believe Volus must be broken. I'm sorry to say, it is you who are broken.Again...L2P.
And the rocket glitch is creative use of game mechanics. Which if I remember right someone said was a ban able offense. Fairly well enforced at one point when the game was new and EA and Bio still cared about it.
I never said I was the best. At no point do I claim that. How ever unless you are exploiting game mechanics with character the volus can not take nearly the same amount of damage that other characters are capable of. Hence why players tend to spam shield boost. Because the very set up of the volus is support role.
Your justification for using any and all exploits in the game is besides the point. You know of and can use an exploit to boost your ability to take damage well beyond even tank characters. So you expect and demand it seems everyone to be just as knowledgeable and capable as you are. Which comes off very well elitist ass hole is the only way I can think to describe it. This thread is literally complaining about players who don't know about exploits simply trying to stay alive and using the only thing the volus has to stay alive.

answering questions early: Why not bubble in stasis? <--- I am moving too fast and killing at the same speed, to hope that 1 extra enemy happens to wander into the bubble....Stasis=Biotic orb..move on
Why not expose in orbs? <---------- Incid ammo splosions deal with armor on bosses well enough, plus 1 extra orb to take out 1 more mook
Why not radius on shield boost? <--- You forget, I am a greedy little volus, I keep my shields for just me (also, I hate when other volus users freeze my characters when boosting, so it's also out of courtesy)

Why are you telling me this? I guess i have to bring out a wall text to match yours :/
The joke is that i copy pasted the bee movie script because i'm a jerry and jerry's don't care about arguing on about whether playing a character effectively is bad mkay? And anyways what makes you think that inorder to win you need to use an established meta. You are like those guys in tf2's MVM who don't let people kill robots in a hipster fashion. Now that think about it this script describes the volus perfectly, UNINTENTIONAL RELEVANCE YEAH!!!
EDIT: video version more funny lel top kek

Ahh here we go again.
I'm going to demonstrate in two lines why I've given up on trying to argue the point that the entire board seems to be trying to get you to understand. (Which btw, makes me think you're either willfully ignoring or as PB said, just trollin'.)
Defined roles for classes or characters would make the MP a lot more interesting.
I'm curious why does me thinking the volus are more set up for support roles. playing more defense then offense is some how this radical idea?
Defined classes would make this game much much less interesting.
No, your ideas are not radical. We've heard them over, and over, and over. I just don't think we've seen them over and over from the same person as much. Please fill out the appropriate form and carry on.

Best gear available set up as well. Which is a side point I make. Not everyone who has volus adept will also have collector SMG X as well as fully maxed out high velocity barrel and maxed out expert package. If I had all that I'm sure even I could double the points I usually get even without increasing my play skill at all from current standards. Which is competent at the very least.
And the rocket glitch is creative use of game mechanics. Which if I remember right someone said was a ban able offense. Fairly well enforced at one point when the game was new and EA and Bio still cared about it.
Not "creative use of game mechanics" in any way. That's shooting rockets out of a weapon that doesn't shoot rockets normally. Rocket glitching and Volus double cloak are two completely different things. You not being able to understand this concept is mind blowing.
I was convinced this was a l2p problem. Not any more. Now I know you're just not that bright. That's ok. The world needs people to work at gas stations...

To put it a slightly different way, there's no arguing metagame with someone that doesn't metagame. Your example is as good as a poker player's Tell. Good catch.

Jesus christ you don't even understand kalence, Why should we listen to you again?

Can't be any worse then currently with only a handful of classes being truly useful if you want to maximized kills and exp. With only a handful of build being used. I don't think I've ever seen an N7 Shadow ever set up to be anything other then Shadow strike focused. Or Krogans being heavy melee focused. Same builds and same characters being used over and over and over and over again. Only variation existing if players are trying to complete challenges. And that is just Bronze- Gold. You break into platinum and the field thins even more with even less variation in characters and builds.
So just out of curiosity how so?

I have long since moved on from double cloak topic. I admitted that you can double cloak. It is the deeper I dig so to speak in how players manipulate the Volus character the more obvious it is that it is a very exploitable class. Which is a problem when the entire basis of the argument that players don't need to spam shield boost because volus can take a hit. Is because you take advantage of an exploit.
Hence when you said creative use of game mechanics I counted with rocket glitch. Being the same kind of creative use of game mechanics to gain an advantage in the game you normally wouldn't have.
I get it now...why does all of this arguing sound like a certain Sinful Terminator? I think he got us all pretty good.

Now using Shield Boost followed by Heavy Melee Shell is an exploit.
This is why I don't actually put anyone on ignore, because then I don't get to laugh at their stupidity.

What argument was that?
There is no need to answer. You can continue randomly spewing contrary opinions at people in the hopes that something will hit the wall and stick, but in the end, you're just going to trap yourself in a room filled with crap-covered walls.
