OK, I haven't finished the game and don't know where his storyline goes(if it goes anywhere him being DLC and all) but, from the get go I don't like this guy, he's like Billy Batts but in space... He comes off as preachy, arrogant and kinda narrow sighted. We unearth his ungrateful ass, bring him back to life and he still has the nerve to call us primitive. when you bring him aboard your ship and he's surrounded by armed guards he just sits there as if they posed no threat to him(they obv. are 'cause no matter how badass you are there's no way you can survive a firing squad). And there's his attitude towards you, your team and the whole galactic civilization. Anyone else thought that any minute now he was gonna tell you to: "Go home and get your f@%#ing shinebox!"? "Amusing, Asari have finally mastered writing... This has been amusing. To discover most primitive races of my time now rule the galaxy".... Guess what? You've been away for a long time old man, so why don't you climb down off of that high space-horse and talk to me as an adult.

Stand among a horde of sapient monkeys, and ask yourself if you can "talk as an adult".

The silence is your answer.

Pointing out someone's genetic ancestry is a two way street.

Listen to an ancient toad patronize you, and ask yourself "What exactly did Prothens achieve, that this cycle has not?"

I can't say that Javik really has much to be grateful for upon release from his stasis pod. Aside from the fact that he would not have known the difference if he was left in there, there's little to look forward to upon awakening, since he realizes that his entire species is extinct, and he's in the middle of another reaper war yet again. As for his attitude, I imagine anyone that had to do the terrible things he did during the protheans' war with the reapers would probably not be the most welcoming personality. In any case, Javik's persona isn't static. Over the course of the game you can affect his outlook to be more positive.

At first I didn't like Javik that much either, but I've grown to love him. You have to see where he comes from and where he's thrown into (times changed a lot in the past 50,000 years). He's been through much, brought up during war times which were undoubtedly very harsh, and the Prothean species was dominant over others, an arrogant and proud species I'd imagine, so I guess it's no surprise he is not really a "nice" character and has a certain mind-set. He has his tender moments too and like KaiserShep says you can influence him as well. He is one of my favourites because of the fact he can have actual development as a squad mate.

I don't hate Javik, but I certainly don't like him. He was amusing to listen to every once and a while, but it got old quick and he's also needlessly abrasive a lot of the time. The DLC wasn't really worth the extra few euro as far as I was concerned, I didn't even recruit him in my last playthroughs.

I didn't like him at first and even when I finished the game my opinion only move a little in the favorable direction.  The one thing that annoyed me the most about him though was the smoke in his cargo bay that kept glitching my hair every time I spoke to him, annoyed the hell out of me.  Still, he is interesting in that in his own war he was very much the Shepard of his people and you see what could become of you if things went differently.

Protheans give this cycle a chance to save themselves from extinction.

About Javik, if you are not willing to step into his shoes, I think you at least should give him some time.

Protheans were the ruling class of the galaxy during their cycle. Treating all other species as servant species to their race.

Born into the Reaper war watching his species slowly get removed from the face of the galaxy.

Awoken to found the attempts to warn the next cycle to have been ignored and leaves one war to extinction to enter into another one.

All his friends, family and species gone for thousands of years.

All the specie that were the most primitive are now the dominate species in this cycle.

Dude kind of earned his attitude.

Javik just woke up from a 50,000 year nap, found out that his entire species has been wiped out, the equvilant of dogs, guinea pigs, and bonobos are running around the galaxy, and fighting the same war his people was.

JAVIK IS SPENDING MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE GAME SUFFERING FROM PTSD. Like, even with the fact that his species was imperialistic to begin with, everything and everyone he ever knew is GONE. That doesn't exactly leave you feeling all hearts and rainbows.

It sounds like the character works for you. The reasons you don't like him are the reasons I do; he's intentionally polarizing like a lot of good characters.

I did not like Javik the first time I met him, and I am indifferent about him still. Sometimes, I never recruit him, or I never talk to him.

Javik is one of the most hilarious, badass and compelling characters I've ever come across in a Bioware game.

First impressions? I like him then I don't like him that much since he's rude then he's back in my good graces and kinda grow on me. He's like that grumpy granduncle who don't want to show he's suffering in silence, who was angry at the fates, who was alone even if there's people around him but considerate enough to give you advice about life and talk about his WWII days even if it pains him.

Some of the best conversations I had in ME3 was with him. When Shepard said "Without these affections, all I have in my life is death. And that is not enough." about my LI being the reason she fought to win against the reapers. Kinda seal the deal with my trilogy canon.

And Javik is the Shepard of his time, they understand each other, "Living a life of constant war, taking life in every battle. It is the only box I have known. It shapes me, as stone is shaped by the one who carves it. The stone has no choice in the form it will take. You and I, Commander. War is our sculptor. And we are prisoners to its design." When you think the nightmare my Colonist Shepard went through as a young girl and then the trauma on Akuze, suffering through the Prothean visions, Saren's invasion, the collector's attack, the revelation at the Collector's base, the destruction of the Bahak system, Vancouver's destruction... that is C/SS Shepard's tragic life which is something she shared with Javik. They're pea of the same pod really before Bioware ruin it with the nightstand thing.

And it was kinda dumb that Paragon drove him to suicide if you let him see the shard. What is it with Paragon Shepard and making people turn to suicide.

I'm playing ME3 with Javik's DLC for the first time too, and I like him. It's hard to take anything he says personally given the circumstances, and a lot of it is either really interesting or pretty funny. And he's obviously valorous, intelligent and pragmatic, and very distraught. Overall I'm glad to have him.

Javik acted as I suspected a being that was once a superior race would. As Liara said, he had only felt as if a few minutes had gone by, not 50,000 years, so he would still be thinking as he was back then. Over time he becomes less hostile, and at least on my PT, he grew to care for my Shepard and respect her.

I would most likely act like Javik. He wakes up finding out he's the only one left of his species. He's surrounded by species that were in their infancy during his cycle. He doesn't care about anyone or any thing in this cycle. All he cares about is fighting the reapers and getting revenge for his species.

If I'd be the last of my species that got into stasis during a reaper war to wait it out just to be awoken during the next I'd be pissed too.

I love this guy, he makes some good points when he talks about organics vs synths. I don't mind that he's rude. Makes me a little homesick actually lol

Javik is the best character of ME3, hands down. He can grow and change more than any other, yet retain his acidic wit. Depending on your actions, he will come to view you as a brother, and at the very least he will respect you. Give him a chance and definitely take him to Thessia once that mission comes up.

Depends. The whole talk about synthetics having a purpose, organics not and that´s one reason why synthetics will be antagonistic is odd. The purpose of most synthetics is some variation of "serve your creators" or has som  purpose for the benefit of the organics. If they kill their creators, they will be have no purpose anymore or not their original one at least.

He is the Sten of Mass Effect.  I didn't like Sten at first, either.  I was like what a freakin' d*ck.  I think I left his *ss in that cage on my second playthrough.  But then I tried him, and he eventually became my favorite DAO character.  Same thing is sorta happening with Javik (although no one can top Garrus).  I had never played with him before, but I am doing so this time (4th playthrough).  He has some really powerful moments.

Both are blunt, pragmatic, lifelong soldiers who don't sugarcoat anything, but maintain a very dry, pessimistic sense of gallows humor that can be hilarious at times.  Both are tragic figures, and strangers in a strange land.

"Either you have an enviable memory or a pitiable life to know nothing of regret."~Sten

"Because you still think this war will end with your honor intact.  Stand amongst the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask them if honor matters.  The silence is your answer."~Javik
