Yesterday this thought came to my mind.
But since I never dare playing as anything else than the "good character who is friends with everybody" (I just can't) I'm gonna ask here in case anyone did or knows about it.

Let's assume you play a Quizzy who:

- does not go to look for Blackwall, Sera, Vivienne and Iron Bull
- does not allow Dorian and Cole to join the Inquisition

You are left with Cassandra, Solas and Varric.

Let's suppose said Inquisitor makes Cassandra Divine.
Solas leaves.
Post-game you talk to Cassandra and tell her to never join the party again.

... What happens when you start Trespasser? Does everybody suddenly magically reappear, or is it only you and Varric who go hunt for Solas?

Cause if that's the case I'd be interested in hearing how it is to play this way.. :P

:P  :P

Well, it would be very sad to do that since most of the fun of DA are your companions and the relashionship you build with them. I also don't think it would be possible to kill all bosses without a full party, and if you do, well, you are on an asian gamer level, because, damn.

Just the thought of roaming different areas of Thedas without hearing your companions comments on different matters, is really, really sad.

I think this is why a mage isn't required to "energize" anything in any of the trespasser areas.

Otherwise, if a mage were required for something, then it would be impossible to finish if you have no mages left.

Regarding Cassandra, she left my party in DAI to become the divine, but came back in Trespasser. However, I did not speak to her after the end of the DAI main quest, so I'm not sure if some dialogue option causes her to permanently leave.

I didn't know there was a "stay away" option for talking with Cass (though she was my primary tank so I was grateful she could still join). But this sounds feasible. You'd get through the main game with a full party (and probably hear some banter most people never hear as the game progresses and they swap out at least one of the original members), and then just have Varric.

I imagine, given Trespasser's difficulty level, that it would be a nightmare for certain classes (probably anyone that isn't a warrior would have a bad time).

Dorian comes back for trespasser even if you kick him out, so I'd presume that Cass works the same way.

When you say "kick him out," do you mean ask him to leave?

I think OP means that when he first shows up and asks to join the Inquisition, you can say no.

If Dorian is intentionally kicked out, does he still join your party in Trespasser, or is he just an ambassador?

Yeah I know he comes back cause Tevinter ambassador and everything, but I was wondering if you don't let him join the Inquisition, then in Trespasser maybe he would just be an npc, like Teagan ..?
Of course playing like this would be boring and extremely hard.. I'm just curious, cause the Winter Palace must be very empty without your companions chilling around...

As for Cassandra, when she is made Divine, after the game ends you can talk to her. She says she is bored and wants to go away from the Chantry until her coronation and asks if you'd take her back. You can say yes or no, if you say no it says "Cassandra will never rejoin the party".

I wonder if that affects Trespasser or not..
Just out of curiosity. :-P

Just tested the "Cassandra will never rejoin the party" option, and yes, she does come back in Trespasser even if you have selected that option.

It's possible. I got through most of it with just my Rift Mage Inquisitor (on Nightmare), which isn't even the strongest possible Inquisitor for that kind of situation. The only flaw is that you will have an Inquisitor who talks to him or her self.

you can solo the game with any class if you use certain builds. but yes, dorian, cass, and varric will be there no matter what you do and you can take them if you want. if you venture out alone (i have done it) your quisi will speak a lot to "himself" or "herself" lol. Mainly it just means you finish any fight it just takes a bit longer to kill stuff than will a full party.

Wait, like those glowing white orbs where it says "Listen to ______" will actually say "Listen to yourself"?

And when you say no matter what you do is that definitely including if you turn Dorian away as soon as you meet him?

(I'm thinking if you did Champions of the Just without even bothering to go to Redcliffe, it'd be really weird for the guy who showed up at your door and was immediately dismissed suddenly became a major party member option in the epilogue)

The "Talk to" lights don't show up at all. They don't show up normally for those who are not in the group, so of course none would show up if none are in the group.

However, certain notes you find or events you witness have the Inquisitor making remarks on those things. If you have no companions, then he or she is talking to no one.

I haven't tried it, but I assume Dorian's dialogue is the same as if you and he were not on good terms. I don't know what that dialogue is though, or if it even exists. But it seems Dorian is an optional companion regardless.

What I would really like to know is if Hissrad shows up at the Daarvarad even if you never recruited him.

^ I would assume that when Dorian is turned away after either mission, or is kicked out before the end, that he would return to Tevinter sooner rather than later, and also that he does as he says, "I’ll do what I can from afar." You have to keep in mind that he believes men like Corypheus "ruined [his] homeland," and he's not going to sit by while they "ruin the world." This is a view that he has, and will have, regardless of his status with the Inquisition. So it doesn't really surprise me that he would offer his services in Trespasser, should you need them. These issues are beyond personal grudges. Besides, I can seeing Dorian being amused the the Inquisitor should ask for his help if it had been refused previously.

As for the self-dialogue, I think that is referring to the post-combat barks and such. "Is everyone all right?" would be rather weird solo. But this applies to the main game as well, should you decide to go solo, not just in Trespasser.

You make a good case for Dorian's willingness to join. I just think from a player perspective, if you truly did not know who he was (because if you skip Redcliffe, you wouldn't even meet him before he showed up during the Haven attack, and wouldn't have any chit-chat time if you told him to leave right away in Skyhold), it'd be very strange for him to suddenly be in your party at the end of the game. You'd have no idea who he was.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity :) So it seems Cass is always an option too together with Varric. And Dorian, I understand why he would re appear, although I also feel it would not make much sense for him to suddenly become relevant to you when you did not care about him before ... But since he is going to be in DA4 I suppose it had to be done this way.

Now I'm imagining the Inquisitor talking to him/herself through the entire game ... :D

We don't know that. There is strong suggestion, sure, but we don't know.

If Dorian isn't in DA4, I for one will be super pissed.

Bioware.
