Liara has no training. My Shepard doesn't have time to train the asari. She is not cold blooded. Just because she does a couple of things does not make her an expert in fighting in combat. The trilogy already proves she is not squadmate material. It does not matter what she does in the trilogy, its what she doesn't have when Shepard first meets her. I have no reason to make her a squadmate because she has no experience or any training. Why would I want someone like that on my squad?

Well, she is the only adept-class biotic around unless Shepard's one. Anyway, I don't see how a pure RP argument can work here, since Liara really does have that skillset. Unless Shepard wouldn't even bother to see what she could do?

What nerve do you think you hit?

It still doesn't convince me that the asari is squadmate material. If you want to believe she is worthy of being a squadmate, go ahead.

She's a powerful biotic from the word go - potentially more powerful than anyone else in the squad I think, Shep included, simply by virtue of being asari. She's legit deadly by ME2, and she continues to hone those abilities over the course of the trilogy.

That ain't nothing. I'd say she's more qualified for actual combat than Steve is for sure.

Her background doesn't support her being a squadmate. I would not want someone on my squad with no experience or training. Why would I want her on my squad? Doesn't matter if she's the only adept class that's around. I rather have Shiala.

Just because she's an asari doesn't mean crap. The trilogy proves she is not squadmate material especially during the Thessia mission.

Without any training, she's not qualified for crap. She hasn't proven anything to me.

If the Alliance is like when I was in the military, he would constantly be getting training. Yes his field is flying fighters and shuttles, but he still has received training using weapons and basic combat skills. Enough to survive if need to be depending on the situation.

Because she develops skills over time. Which is again why everyone but you seems to realize by ME2 she is actually a threat and actually worthy of Shepard's squad even by your standards.

So lets see ground combat:

Steve an ace pilot with minimal ground combat skills

Liara a powerful biotic with minimal ground combat skills.

Yea I'd pick the one capable of creating barriers to block damage, lift targets helplessly in the air to be shot at and just knock them on their rumps for daring to stand up.

OK, but the last page or two leaves me with the distinct impression that you're just weird about Liara for some reason.

Wrex probably doesn't have any formal training either, but I'd say he's eminently qualified for combat missions. What about Mordin? He's a doctor.

Not to mention shoot black holes at people. Even Shep needs a gun to do that, and even then, only if he preordered from Gamestop.

Weird?

It seems you have a problem that someone doesn't like her being a squadmate for some reason

Just weird to be so hot about it.

And I was wondering if the lack of "formal" training would disqualify other companions for combat duty, is all. Dorian too, for example. He's a powerful mage, but he's also like, a librarian, not a soldier.

Carry on, though.

Who is everyone you speak of?

I throw a grenade or fire a missile at her. Not hard.

Dorian? Maybe you might want to ask that question in the DAI section.

Just figured the same logic would apply, but I guess not.

Let's say Wrex, Mordin, or Tali. Or even Kasumi. None of them likely have any sort of extensive formal training (Mordin might actually, since he's STG?), but they all have practical skills and experience that are readily applicable to combat missions. And that grenade or rocket might not punch through Liara's barrier, is all I'm saying. She's pretty beastly.

And in any case, according to the game, all of them - Liara included - have weapon proficiencies. That suggests some amount of training to me.

Why? They're two completely different things.

Try telling that to the asai that was maintaining the barrier on Thessia when that missile killed her and several other asari

Yes, according to the game, everyone has this, that and the other thing.

If they wrote Liara in light of their new ideas, she would have fit just fine as an advisor type of character. Especially as a full fledged Shadow Broker. I could imagine her as Barbara/Oracle in DC Comics if she'd been like that.

I don't mind her as a combat character though. I'm more annoyed that the games suddenly took a more cinematic direction once LotSB came out.. and it's what ME3 borrowed from. It's like they wanted to transform things into a typical action game with heavier cinematics, and Liara at the forefront. The series had the right mix of open ended and cinema before that. With no single character standing out.

Anyone with half a brain can tell what's wrong with the ending

Apparently, you need to only have half a brain to do that.
