For me, it would probably be Kai Leng.

I hate him in two ways. I hate how he was executed so poorly, both from an art perspective as well as his plot and gameplay implementation, which all squandered a lot of potential that the character had from Drew K's novels.

But even then, they did manage to also make me hate the character in universe a lot, which is not a bad thing. During my first playthrough, I really had no problem roleplaying my Shepard to really want to kill the bastard, especially after Thessia.

BTW, the star kid doesn't count, since I don't regard it as a character but just a weird and completely inappropriate plot device.

Agree with you there.

The Catalyst isn't so much a character as it is an info dump; an info dump that completely butchers the Reapers' previously established character, but still.

Kei Leng. It's like they ripped of some 12-year old's fan fiction. Him and that lame as hell fight scene with Thane on the Citadel stick out from the ME universe as a sore thumb. I mean what the ****** hell was that!?

You have a gun Thane! It fires bullets from a distance Thane! WHY ARE YOU RUNNING TWOARDS HIM THANE!?

THANE!!

YOU MONUMENTAL FISHFACED FUCKNUGGET!

Thanks, I'll never look at that scene with any semblance of gravitas again.

And I'm okay with that. XD

BioWare really needs to get Chris L'Etolie back.

Out of all the writers working for them, BioWare's staff hasn't come close to capturing that "alien as an alien" style like he did: The Rachni, The Thorian, The ME 2 take on the Geth, Etc. All were very interesting 'alien' takes on the universe, but come ME 3 and they are either killed off, reduced to a glorified background prop, or turned into Pinocchio bots.  <_<

Don't remind me.

The whole 'space elf' troupe is about the second most annoying thing about mainstream science fiction for me; right behind the classic Pinocchio "I wanna be a real boy" bit.

Then again, I tend to not like any faction in any form of fiction that is depicted as innately better than everyone else, be they regular elves, space elves, blue cat people, or ubermensch humanity.

I think the main races were pretty well balanced out with each other, except for the joke races and humans who are the best at everything (I do agree that this is rather annoying).

I can forgive the Midi-chlorians, as I love Darth Plagueis. Jar-Jar  ruined episode 1 for me. The Catalyst ruined ME for me.

I didn't mind Jar Jar or "little Annie" as much really, sure they were annoying and cheesy, and did things that detracted from a (mostly) serious setting, but no more than how the Citadel DLC detracted from the tone of ME 3.

That's right, Jar Jar = Citadel for me.

That was one of my major annoyances as well. I mean I get that humanity is going to be the special snowflakes; it's BioWare's MO; but I was really disappointed at how the more 'alien' Council species like the Hanar, Elcor, and Volus were regulated for cheap laughs as the series went on.

I mean the Hanar actually had a fairly unique culture and interaction with the other species, but that was all thrown out the airlock for Blasto memes. And the Elcor talked slowly for other species' benefits, but the narrative just devolved into depicting them as big stupid sloths. <_<

For me, the Asari got a free pass when it was revealed that they weren't actually better/smarter/more advanced than anybody, they had just been hording Prothean technology and not sharing it.

That's a good point, but then you still have the Asari as being the most attractive of all species; they're appealing to a Human, Salarian, and Turian respectively; and being one of the longest lived species; only the Krogan can match them; plus, all Asari are natural biotics.

The most, beautiful, long lived, and (space) magically proficient race in a setting? Sounds very, very 'elf-y' to me.

That Revan novel? I threw it in a dumpster the day after I finished it. Karpyshyn is indeed great at worldbuilding (ME1, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR) but he falls all over himself in character development and dialogue, kinda like George Lucas. Seriously that Revan novel sucked big time. Ugh.

It's the truth though.

Jar Jar: a character that does over-the-top, cringe inducing forced humor and gags, that detract from an otherwise serious story.

I don't usually hate characters because of who they are and what they do in video games. My characters, maybe, but me, the player, not really. If it happens, then the writting is really good to make me feel that way lol. More often I am able to hate a character because he was simply badly done, it's the writting that could bother me. I'd say I hate KaI leng in M3, because that's simply a poor character, with poor implementation and poor gameplay, badly written, with a weak character development. He is just annoying everytime he appears. I don't really hate him though, just despise what they have done with him. Not sure it makes sense lol.

Who wrote him ? His lines when has was trying to insult Shepard were really childish. So childish, I couldn't believe it was thrown by a former N7, a big antagonist. Basically it was " I'm better than you shepard. " Eeh, okay ? Do I know you actually ? Is there a competition between us I am unaware of ? I don't know, a story behind all of this ? Why does it seem suddenly so personal ? No explanations.

I'm trying to think hard about someone else, ah yes, maybe Udina actually. I didn't hate him however, just totally despised him. Though the fact that he was written to be despised by everyone annoys me. That kind of thing in the writting doesn't really impress me. I wish we could have seen more of his qualities. He showed absolutely none in the three episodes...

I like his Mass Effect books but it went stale by third book when he decide to emphasis more on Kai Leng's space ninja narrative. I get that he borrowed heavily on the genre especially Babylon 5, Starship Trooper and Battlestar Galactica and that people like his writing which suit RPG-ness settings, but that's his limits.

I hate his canonRevan. Shadow of Revan was such a huge disappointment because Bioware decide to base everything on Drew's narrative. There's no real need to make the current Shans as descendants of Revan and Bastila Shan. They could have made everything ambiguous as possible. In Shadow of Revan, he became this wimpy pathetic spliced ghost who became so indoctrinated by the Emperor that he wanted to resurrect him back for.... no reason at all, he's just that crazy.

If Bioware decided to make a canonShepard in the future, it will become exactly like canonRevan.

Jar jar was almost better. Jar jar at least intent wise works when you have heavy plots it's best to have moments of levity to lift it up. A 30 minute block shifts the tone for too long. Though the humor was marginally better in the citadel dlc than it was for jar jar.

Jacob Taylor. My tooth brush has more personality than him. The only brother in Shepard's squad and he had to be a dull.

Yeah, I'm curious who wrote for him because he comes off as a character the writer had no interest in doing.

I was actually more annoyed with how easily he killed the Exile, who I think had a more interesting backstory.

As for the topic, probably Javik. The DLC wasn't really worth the extra few euro as far as I was concerned (I uninstalled From Ashes after my first play-through and never plan to reinstall). His personality is completely one-dimensional. He's needlessly abrasive a lot of the time. Also, for being the only surviving Prothean, he contributes astonishingly little to our understanding of the Reapers or how to defeat them.

Dishonorable mention: Kaidan (bland), Tali (irritating voice), Samantha (a pointless addition to the game) and the usual suspects - Kai Leng (!), Han'Gerrel, Wreav, Sparatus, the Dalatrass, Henry Lawson

I'm not sure how anyone would expect Javik to have any insight into defeating the reapers. His entire civilization totally failed. Their only successes were basically exploited by the time he's discovered.

No insight - but certainly information.
He seems to know a hell of a lot about uplifting asari for example and precious little about reapers.

Javik is an awful example of how me3 was made - he should have been on the game from the start.
