Decoy and Drone trivialize Geth (and other ranged enemies). High level PPR is apparently absurd DPS.

To add to this, the Sentinel has many defensive tricks, more than any other kit really. It's very hard to get it's defensive abilities doing consistent damage. (They can do damage though. It's just difficult and requires a bit of luck)

The PPR by itself does so much damage that it counteracts the Sentinel's lack. The PPR does the most damage when it's ramped up, and the volus double cloak, decoy, and drone really help that by mitigating staggers.

All I know is, that if you have a low level PPR, basically anything is a better choice. At low levels, it is a joke how bad it is. I'd rather take a Tempest than a low level PPR.

And that the Volus Mercenary is one of the most OP kits in the game. Do not underestimate the little badarse. Decoy/Drone + double cloak is stupid good.

The PPR is an ok gun at lvl 1, it's mainly the CSMG that's bad at low levels as the clip size then is way to small. The Volus Merc is good that's for sure, but certainly not one of the most OP kits in the game.

The combat drone does a bit of damage with the right evolutions (but it's still miles behind powers like Reave or Dark Channel). It's good against Geth as a distraction, and Phantoms specifically. All other enemies more or less ignore it, same goes for the Decoy.

I find other weapons to be better for him, especially guns like the Harrier. The Volus Merc need to spam his powers frequently which don't synergize that well with the PPR. It's a great gun for sure, but the ramp up mechanic is annoying when you want to use powers frequently.

The Drone and Decoy are there to stagger/distract stuff so you can kill it. The Decoy can't be ignored when it's shocking stuff. Cloak and Shield Boost lets you get in close to kill stuff. I recently had fun with the Reegar on him for that reason. The Falcon with Cryo IV is a laugh too. You don't score high, but you stop nearly everything in its tracks :)

On mooks yes sure it's both fun and effective, but becomes a bit less effective on platinum - good luck staggering possessed Preatorians with the Drone/Decoy :P

I don't see the volus merc as a spammer personnally, since he can't detonate on demand he isn't really a guy who spam powers every 2,5-3s to create combos. Besides, the problem with the Harrier is that its lack of ammo would be even worse than usual with the volus merc, since the little guy has mediocre weapon passives (without headshot bonus) and his powers don't do much damage. I think it would be OK for a gold game but for a platinum match I'm afraid I would be already out of thermal clips at wave 5 or 6.

Assault load out helps a lot with that, for team games he's the only kit I run with the Harrier myself (I've played him that way quite a bit on platinum, hazard Dagger can be annoying but most maps are fine). I always go with the exploding drone so I want to cast it as much as possible, and throw in shield boost when needed - one of the few kits I use power efficiency mods on for that reason. You can always bring the Acolyte for dealing with Phantoms as they usually require a lot of ammo to take out with the Harrier.

You're not speccing out of Shield Boost like any self-respecting Volus?

Fair enough, but you still want the mooks staggered and distracted while you attack the Praetorian, even on Plat :)

The easiest team Plat game I ever played in was four Volus Mercs, two with Saber, two with PPR. I don't think the PPR ramp-up is such a big deal for him, if you get the casting rhythm to fit.

Volus merc with PPR being the combo I use, I can even push further and say that the ramp-up is absolutely not a problem, because the pets provide enough distraction to compensate for it. Moreover, especially with the shock evos, enemies don't kill the pets so fast, so you don't need to recast them constantly.

Only one way to settle this - Thunderdome me 1 vs 1, you bring the PPR and I'll bring the Harrier! :P

The Volus Sent is a master of mirrors, deceit and tricks. He is the villain, who summons the hero to his secret chamber with numerous false images of himself. Only now he cloaks and leaves the hero to rot with his explosive decoys.

When off-duty he talks with his mirror image Travis-Bickle-style. And the miniature versions of big fat guns are always hilarious on Volus. But don't underestimate the Volsent - he's a cunning one.

Nope, and no equipment allowed. Naked voluses FTW !*

Pistols! Only concealed weapons count. I'm not answering how to conceal them on a naked Volus. That'd be your task.
