I have this idea spinning round inside my head and the more I think about it, the more logical it seems to me: I believe the evil character of the next Mass Effect (Andromeda) is going to be our beloved commander Shepard. Bioware has insisted on the fact that Shepard is not going to be present in Mass Effect Andromeda, but they continue to make references to N7 in trailers and conferences even when this can create confusion among the fans. If you think about it, it doesn't have much logic that a character who shows an N7 on his chest appeared in the very first trailer they released, because the Alliance is most probably not going to be present in the Andromeda galaxy 10 000 years after the plot of Mass Effect 3 took place, and we all know N7 is a military rank in this Alliance. So we have this obscure N7 character who doesn`t look like a hero in the first trailer and the next day Bioware announces this will not be our playable character and then they post a picture of a much more colourful couple. At first the idea of a villain Shepard seemed crazy even to me, but when I told my wife about it, she brought to my mind the similarity of my crazy hypothesis to the story of Darth Vader from Star Wars. Then it hit me, Shepard can perfectly be our new enemy! Bioware "holds the line" with the controversial ending of the past trilogy, and they never regretted or even apologized about it. This could mean they had this planned a long time ago, and if I`m right the choices you made in Mass Effect 3 are just an illusion, they all led to the same point: the war was lost. Even if Shepard survives indoctrination he ends lying down seriously injured in the ground. So we can suppose the reapers might have taken him and, with a few modifications (because he is already part cyborg) made him their agent. In this scenario, Shepard lives on 10 000 years waiting for the next harvest to be ready, and the only thing that makes him a little human is that N7 on his chest. It`s genius! We would hate and love this enemy at the same time, and with our exported save they(Bioware) could make our very own ghost from the past, different for each player. This character could have even more charisma and be even more loved than our respected Darth Vader. This would be perfection to me, I wouldn't be tired of this idea even if they use it for the next three games. Of course we don't have a way to know if this is true or if it's just speculation, but if what I`m saying is true, then Bioware is the world's best video game company just for taking all the negative reviews and comments and still not revealing any information. I`d really like to know what you think about this idea.

It has already been confirmed that Shepard won't be returning.

Besides the whole reason for the shift to Andromeda is likely so that the devs won't have to address the endings to Mass Effect 3. They'll probably have the colonists set out at some point prior to the Crucible firing, making it impossible for Shepard to make the journey.

No, that would be terrible, OP.

Also, Shepard returning in any way will be pandering and it would suck.

I implore you to remove the idea from your head, as Shepard will not be in Andromeda.

And as as villain? Fans backlash and outrage would be severe.

Shepard as the enemy? My femshep would enjoy wrecking havoc in Andromeda. Heck I try and have my main character see if she/he could join Shepard to rule Andromeda. hahaha

I don't see that happening. Shepard will not be in Andromeda

The enemy is going to be the clone from the Citadel DLC.

Pathfinder: How can this be? I saw a video feed of your death!

Clone: I got better.

I guess if BioWare was really looking to put in one Big Troll to screw with its fans (no the endings don't count). But yeah ain't no way no how that sort of thing would happen.

It has already been confirmed that Shepard won't be returning.

Too bad Chris Priestly isn't here anymore, he'd be able to confirm what is what by predictably saying the opposite of what is actually true.

OP, you have just described the only way that ME:Andromeda could possibly be remotely interesting to me.

Sadly, it is unlikely to happen, but one can always live in hope.

What do I think? I think that is absolutely one the worst ideas I've heard so far and one of the stupidest things BW could do. I can just imagine the outrage...

All the things that I used to say

All the words that got in the way

All the things that I used to know

Have gone out the window.

After traveling through the new relay, which we shall call a... super gate relay...

mission_editor_DX9_2010-12-21_23-29-19-6

...the new team will then learn that the Reapers have in fact also taken over Andromeda. They're called Reaper-Cylons. Apparently all this has happened before, and all this will happen again. Because the writers have a disease called "Formulaic".
