"Essence of a species" = flesh syrup = minced person = dead person.

You literally see Lilith melt right in front of you while screaming in pain and terror in ME2.

The game does not use the terms like human slushies, flesh syrup, etc to describe the process.

All that is left is Reaper, no matter what species was used to create it.

The species is dead. It has ceased to be. It is an ex-species.

Whatever they were has been killed. We are more than our genetic material.

When I eat corn I'm reabsorbing its nutrients, but I'm also killing it just by virtue of eating it. Your argument is asinine.

But it shows us people being killed and reduced to genetic slude.

What we know is that they break you down to components and seems that there is some destructive mind reading/upload involved. We don´t know what´s left but it seems that reapers are pretty similar in general personality and behaviour. It seems that this memory upload isn´t much more than grabbing your general knowledge skills and personality traits don´t matter or are subsumed in the general consensus which is pretty similar every time. So it´s actually a question if an individual upload isn´t much more than an entry in a database and has as much effect on a Reaper as a pdf file affects the OS of your PC.

When the whole mind upload and ascension thing results in a pretty similar dominant personality all the time, it doesn´t really sound like anything is left of the individual that matters.

And well the whole harvesting process still kills a lot of people, it´s a rather selective process. Reapers bombed whole worlds, the guys who don´t make it through husk quality management are discarded and indoctrinated slaves die in droves after every cycle.

Anyways from our perspective they are all dead. Might be a limited one but we haven´t seen anything to prove that reaper ascension blabla is not just smoke and mirrors. For all practical purposes it could be just them building a throne of skulls out of their enemies for the lulz.

Do we even know about this mind upload thing? I can't remember seeing anything remotely like it in the games. All I know is that organic species are melted, that material is pumped into the larva of a new reaper which eventually ends up under the Catalyst's control. That's it.

In any case, there is no indication that anything of the species or it's individuals remains.

The only ones who even talk about ascension are Harby and the Catalyst and they may be ... biased.

It is known they save all information on the species they harvest. Sum total of all their information is stored in Reaper form. And a new consciousness forms from the Reaper.  Though it isn't stated that the new intelligence is formed from said harvested data.

It's from a conversation with Legion.

Even if Legion is right, and there's nothing that proves it is, what doesn't change is the fact that hundreds of thousands of humans were killed in an effort to create a new consciousness. The very idea that the Reapers "don't kill" is ridiculous.

Apparently not you or Rossler. In what way are the harvested Organics not dead?

That only establishes that the reapers are parasites that use the corpses to replicate themselves.

Exactly.

We've had instances in real life where people have had their organs harvested while still alive, resulting in their death. Were those people not killed because their genetic material is being used elsewhere?

As I said before, we are more than our genetics. Just because our DNA is in the Reaper paste does not mean that we weren't killed to get it.

You know, more painful than the dumb assertions in these conversations is the amazing and even more stupid lengths people go to argue that their original stupid statement was right. And then you see other idiots "like" the stupid statements.

Yeah I played it to

So when that turian ship was destroyed before Shepard got to Menae, the turians on the ship weren't killed, but were harvested? Ok. It makes sense now. No one ever dies. They just get harvested. I feel so much better knowing that.

reaper: We're here to harvest you. Not kill you

organics. Ok. That makes a difference

reapers: If you step into the blender over there, the process can be started

organics: Wait. What? Why a blender? Explain how a blender will harvest us without killing us?

reaper: You don't need to know, and there's not enough time to explain.
