The refuse ending should have shown Harbinger destroy the Normandy, as you watch Liara, Garrus, Tali and all your friends scream in pain as they break apart in front of your face, as punishment for being so stupid and thoughtless. I mean, who would actually choose this ending?

A really noble person who would simply never do the wrong thing do matter what the consequences were.

(So, yes, an idiot.)

A person who wanted to finish the game the way you'd played the entire series. A person that didn't trust the villain and do what it wants. A person who didn't expect the best choice to result in "F you, you lose."

That's what destroy is for.

Agreed, but many have issues not being able to save the geth and/or EDI that way.

I can never see myself picking Refuse either, but if your Shepard does not want the Catalyst/Crucible to dictate the fate of the whole galaxy... well, better luck next time.

I wouldn't say people who pick it are idiots, everyone has the right to pick what they want, and I always say each ending can be justified somehow, but yeah, it's not for me.

I have picked Refuse several times. It is my favorite ending.

And watching all your squadmates scream in pain as they die would be a most welcome addition. I mean, they can barely tie their own shoes without Shepard around.

It's better than the forced destroy ending, where everyone in the galaxy dies except Hackett, somehow.

If you really want to "refuse" the options, download MEHEM. Wiping the Catalyst out of the story is the ultimate way to reject it.

I would've wanted to see a couple of things

1) Shepard realizing she messed up starts running to the catalyst crying like a baby that she wants a second chance to choose an ending

2) A shuttle picks up Shepard, takes her back to the Normandy and tells the crew she didn't like the choices, so she refused. At which point the crew throws her out the airlock and then a few moments later Harbinger destroys the Normandy while saying "THIS HURTS YOU"

I have never chosen refuse. I always choose destroy.

I chose the Refuse ending for one of my Shepards who liked to play it tough in conversation but was too insecure in his own grasp of right and wrong to go with anything but the obviously moral and cautious courses when it came to big, far-reaching decisions like saving the Rachni and the Council and blowing up the collector base for fear of indoctrination. When the final choice came he wasn't ready to trust the Catalyst and take responsibility for any of the options and put his faith in the allied forces instead of trying to force a conclusion.

In effect he lacked conviction despite everything, froze, and the galaxy paid the price, which I felt worked okay as a strong finish to the story although the ending cutscene felt pretty abrupt compared to the others. Even if the crucial thing about our adventures in that ending is the time capsule data cache thingy, they still could have elaborated a bit on that. Given us a cool idea of what the next cycle went through with our data in hand to sort of compensate for the extinction of every space-faring species in the galaxy through our inaction. Just saying.
