It's as the title says, I've decided to do my very last play through of Inquisition. It's been a fun year, and I've sunk probably several hundred hours into trying out each and every class and race combination (for at least 20 - 30 hours each anyway), but it's time to put this game away. Inquisition has eaten up far too much time as it is, and given how incredibly busy next year will be for me, I won't have much time for games. With all of that said, I finally got around to getting the last achievement from Trespasser, so I'm back at 100% trophy wise (stupid trial of the hermit, farming great bears is annoying..), and I can now just enjoy one final run without that hanging over my metaphorical head.

SO without further ado, I present to you good people my options for this final time. They are as follows:

(Also I've put pictures of them in the spoilers to make the post less gigantic.)

First up is Mara, a badass Qunari mage who cares for nothing but herself and her own power. Though she may grow to have a soft spot for a certain Antivan ambassador, we'll have to wait and see on that one.. ;) She will certainly be seduced by the allure of necromancy though due to the power it offers, especially with all of the new upgrades from Trespasser and the ability to manually detonate masterwork bombs.

Spoiler

Second we have Hannah, a spunky, sarcastic little rogue who has a big heart, but who had to lock it away in order to survive life in the Carta. She has a talent for picking locks, and has always liked to tinker with anything mechanical that she can get her hands on, so naturally she'll be drawn towards the path of the Artificer when the times comes for her to choose her destiny, and role on the battlefield. As for romance, she likes to flirt a LOT, and it's gotten her in trouble from time to time, but she's never really met anybody who's peaked her interest enough that she cared to pursue it beyond that. But who knows, maybe somebody in the Inquisition will finally be spirited enough to catch her eye.. perhaps a certain elf girl. :P

Spoiler

And last, but certainly not least, we have Artemis, an elven archer who could hit a bird in flight between the eyes at a hundred yards. She tries hard to stick to the old ways, and she loves both her clan and her culture dearly, but she has a burning fascination with metal and machines. She likes to tinker as much as Hannah does, which is why she too will undoubtedly fancy the skill set of an artificer. When it comes to love, she acts tough, but she's a sucker for romance and secretly yearns to be swept off her feet (her and Cassandra will get along swimmingly). So, naturally, it will be a charming ex-Templar who will make her dreams come true. (There's no maybes with this one, I'm already 20 hours into her play through and committed to a relationship with Cullen, soooo that's the route this one would take. lol)

Warning: The first spoiler tab only has one picture so people can see what she looks like without killing their phone, or computer if it's slow. The second one has quite a few though because I love my little red headed freckly elf so much already and I have a ton of screenshots, even after only 20 hours. I'm only uploading my favourites, and I haven't made it very far past entering Skyhold on this file yet so it's not too bad, but I still figured it was worth mentioning lest anyone accidentally blow up their internet. lol

ANYWAY, now that we've covered the personalities and looks of the characters I'm trying to choose from, let me explain a little bit about why I've narrowed down my choice for what is likely to be my "last" play through to these three options in particular.

1. Qunari-Necromancer: Out of all of my previous characters, necromancer was the class I enjoyed the actual play style of the most. I soloed my first nightmare run on it prior to Trespasser coming out and had a blast, so obviously with the new changes and options that were made available thanks to the last DLC (and the change to the WB masterwork), I would like to revisit the class one more time before I put the game away. As for why I want to play a Qunari necro in particular, I just like the experience of playing as a Qunari, and I've never actually done a full play through as a Qunari mage, so that would be a first too, and the increased power from the Vitaar would be a nice little bonus.

2. Dwarven-Artificer: I've never done a full artificer play through before. I've kept meaning to, and it looks super fun in the later game, especially now. As for why I'd like to play as a dwarven artificer.. come on man, this should be self explanatory. Dwarven smiths are renowned for their skill and finesse in the DA universe, so lore wise this makes the most sense to me by far. Other than that though, I honestly don't have much inclination to play a dwarf since I reeeeally dislike the height difference, a dislike which is only amplified by all of the issues that it causes for cut scenes etc in the game. The "twee" romance with Sera would be a nice bonus though, I have yet to see that during my time playing the game.

3. Elven-Artificer: I mean... I like playing as an elf, and I've wanted to make a red-headed elf with lots of freckles as my canon Quisi ever since the game came out. BUT after seeing Harding.. I just couldn't bring myself to do it for a long time. I wanted to be the only cute red head (with freckles) in the main cast darn it! BUT I finally said screw it and bit the bullet on that one, aaaaand as you can probably tell by the gazillion pictures I've already taken of her, I am absolutely in love with her. With all of that said.. the idea of an elven artificer/tinkerer just seems so.. gah, it's hard. I mean it would be one thing if she were a city elf, but a forest/dalish one? It's difficult to wrap my head around, at least for my canon play through. Then again.. CullenXLavellan romance. CullenXCuteRedHeadWithFrecklesLavellan romance.. I think that's self explanatory.

And no I am not remaking any of these characters to form new combinations. I've already done an elven necromancer. She romanced Solas. It was aggravating. >:l

Whew... thus concludes my wall of text. I've had all of these files sitting, waiting, and ready to go for months, and I just haven't had the time to get around to them. So as I said before, after realizing that I'd have even *less* time in the new year, I finally decided to commit to at least one of them before I put DA:I back on the shelf with my other adored games that I probably spent a bit too much time playing. Since each one has their pros and cons though, I figured I'd turn to the forums for help deciding. (Full disclosure, I'll probably decide to finish up with my latest Lavellan, but I'm still interested to hear what you guys think, especially if you've played either of the other two race/class combinations before and enjoyed them enough that you'd recommend them.)

Oh, and whichever one I do will be a solo run on nightmare with all trials enabled. (Except for while I'm trying to make Dorian and IB hook up.) Fun times. \o/

If you've made it this far, thanks for reading, and if you're considering replying, thanks even more!. And if anybody wants sliders for any of these characters just let me know, I'd be happy to share them. I'd especially be happy to share the ones for Mara, since she's scary and probably won't let me rest until *someone* makes her dream of being in charge of an army come true. That woman is just too much of a badass *not* to get her own full play through. ;-;

Well I was going to say Artemis, until you said this:

You can solo with an Artificer, but going solo negates the party-wide benefits of the class. For a last run, I would accept no compromises.

So that would leave Mara.

UNLESS, you are willing to switch Artemis to Tempest. Or Assassin, but I don't think that spec fits the character description. I know making Artemis Tempest is like a red-headed version of Sera, kind of, but so what? Totally different back story and Dalish to boot.

If you are on a pc it would be interesting to mod the game to make nm difficulty insane nm difficulty with trials (not sure if there is a mod though to have enemies Regen health, use potions and items etc though) and install the mod to unblock all class specializations for the base class to make your own class. I would not do the later though unless you can somehow up the difficulty from vanilla nm+trials though.

My favorite has been the electronamcer though and though it is probably a bit less dps and raw power than pyro the static cage feels a bit more visceral than burning everything to a crisp with the flame array (the animation on that thing is just too clean like boom and suddenly everything is ash) I wanted to play a necro without using barrier some time in my 8 slot bar and just use heal on hit but found that was too risky when soloing as some ranged enemies and persistent dot effects like poison and fire wraith hurt you way too much and too fast to play it safely without having barrier for those situations.

I find actually the dual wield tempest not the ranged tempest and without! throwing blades spam as the most balanced "fun" class for higher difficulties though as you are encouraged to use a mix of movement and abilities without having one uber powered combination which melts everything. It is still very enjoyable to fof and use shadow strike flank attack and deathblow and a greater use of frost flask without resorting to fof and then hitting throwing blades over and over again.

Romance wise Josie is a bit boring she is adorable in a way but the romance is boring. Cass is much more interesting especially with the divine choice but I guess that option is blocked without mods.

I really don't like the tempest class, and I find assassins boring to play (though I like having Cole in my party because he destroys everything with a multi-hit build). Mara is tempting. Like I said I'd love to give necromancer one last go, especially with all the changes, and an anti-qun saarebass seems like great fun to play through the game with, especially with what I know about Trespasser after having played through it like 4 times. lol Hm.. I may have to spend a few hours moving her to Skyhold, unlocking necro, and playing around with the manual detonation masterworks before I make my decision.

Our Lavellen's have the same name! Besides mine's a Male Mage....

Cool. :P

I'm playing it on PS4 sadly. :l And again I don't really care for tempest, but I'll keep what you said about the electomancer in mind though.

I like Josephine's romance ark. :( It might not be as wild as some of the others, but it has its own tender charm, and I think that it would compliment Mara's generally cold and hard personality nicely. "She's tough as nails and meaner than sin if you get on her bad side, but she just can't keep her walls up around sweet, innocent little Josie." Eeee I love it. haha <3 (Plus I can TOTALLY imagine Mara showing up and laying the smack down on any noble jerk who tried to take her away. ;P)

Does the height difference of a Qunari Inquisitor cause issues for cut scenes and whatnot in the game as well?

I keep rerolling characters trying to find "The One" and haven't gotten far enough in the game to really notice a lot of issues with either a Dwarf or Qunari so I was just curious.

I don't think you should let party benefits stop you from Artificer, it's incredibly fun to play for solo purposes too. but I like mage as much, qunari mage was my first character actually. :) As for cutscenes, you do look more imposing, although it is hilarious in that respect - really command the room. Rare cases your head can be far up in camera angles but I was never really put off.

As for your concepts I would go the elven artificer one or the qunari mage one; I have almost the same trouble as you in that I feel a bit hesitant about dwarf and i always put those concepts away a ways into the game. It's not that i hate dwarves, in fact I love both Varric and Harding, I just can't play them myself. Also, Sera and Josie romances \o/

Qunari inquisitors tend to stand above the other characters in cut scenes, but they don't end up with their heads off screen or anything like dwarfs do (at least not in my experience). Honestly it just looks more imposing than anything else.

Don't worry I wouldn't. I mean the extra CD reduction from bringing other companions along is nice, but I feel like the artificer class is already powerful enough without the boost. Plus at this point, I need to go solo for the challenge, bringing any party along with me, even on nightmare with trials on just makes the game a cakewalk. Aaaaaand I refuse to turn friendly fire on to make party play more difficult, because FF is ridiculous with how big some of the skills and spells are in this game, so solo it is. lol

In at least one case, yes.

The Dorian + Vashoth romance scenes in the Inquisitor's bedroom were hilariously broken on PC. The cutscene really, really wants to make them be the same height! All those over-the-shoulder camera angles really don't work well. I wish I had taken video of it, alas, but in at least one shot, it looks like either Dorian is standing on a stool or IQ is doing squats.

The Qunari Inquisitor can be pretty tall, at times exaggeratedly so, I think. Normally the game does a decent job by having different camera angles (here is a comparison of the same conversation involving my Elf and my Qunari Inquisitor), but I have come across heads off the screen many times, though it usually only lasts a few frames.

I romanced Cassandra with a male Qunari in the past and it was ok, no weird issues. But I imagine different romance scenes may not be the same.

-shrug- The only character I romanced as a Qunari inquisitor was Iron Bull, and I didn't see any issues. I could see how the height difference would affect romance scenes with other shorter companions though.
