Since the trollstore doesn't like to give me cyclonics, I find myself struggling thinking about which kits can be played in plat without them, so:

which builds do you play on plat without cyclonics? which ones do not require too much skillz so scrubs like this one can play them? should I desist and accept my fate? are there any sacrifices that can be made to appease the RNG gods?

Batarian Soldier with 4/4 Blade Armor/Fitness and Power Amp

Collector with 4/4 Dark Sphere/Fitness and Power Amp

Drell with Adreneline Module

Any kit with a Shield Recharge Evolution, plus Rank 5 Fitness, Stronghold Package and Shield Power Cells (N7 Devastator comes to mind, there are others)

Thanks to Energy Drain and Reave, the Salarians and Justicar might have other options

OTOH there are probably more

Vorcha soldier as a flamer spammer?

Short answer yes. Long answer no.

Cycle Flamer and Carnage so you're getting Fire Explosions consistently. Really just tap Flamer for a second for the prime, then shut it off for the fast cooldown. IF it's on Armor/Health, Carnage for the Exp. If it's not, fire your weapon, repeat.

Take Incendiary Ammo and you can detonate lesser explosions off your ammo primes with Carnage, although you might overwrite your Flamer primes sometimes if you're not careful. (Doesn't matter that much) I use a Talon with power amp.

I just put the CSMG on him with Warp Ammo.  Between the built-in armor bonus and the Warp Ammo double damage to primed enemies, it still does decent damage even with a Power focused build.

Throw Dark Sphere, shoot, Dark Channel, shoot, Seeker detonation, Sphere reaches target, Seeker detonation, explode Dark Sphere, nothing remains but gooey bits

mooks you just Dark Channel, shoot, or throw the Sphere and blow them all up instantly.  It's like having unlimited grenades but with a cooldown

all your Dark Channel explosions will be 6/6, and you can chain those pretty quickly.  4 ranks in Sphere imo is enough since some of the evos are bugged anyway

and with the Damage Reduction from Seekers you are pretty tanky with just 4 Fitness

Drell and Vorcha are the two races in general who don't really get much benefit from Cyclonics anyway, so that is an option although neither are particularly solo friendly if you end up in a 1 v the world scenario.

Batarians and Krogan have high base shields though and most have some sort of damage resistance, so they can be relatively tanky.

Geth Trooper Soldier no-Flamer build with shield power cells three and stronghold is ok.

Oh Turian Sentinel with Tech Armor and Adreneline Module, he has above average Shields and is a cool guy who helps Tech and Biotic people detonate combos

Of course, there's plenty of choices...

Volus engineer. Shield boost in a pinch. Lots of cloaking/aggro dumping. Lots of debuffing for killing stuff before it gets near you. Venom is nice addition especially against cerberus.

Almost any kit if you are crafty enough. I only use cyclonics if nothing else is more viable or if I'm low on power amps. Sometimes adrenaline mods are better than cyclonics too since you become harder to hit. Drell and AIU come to mind.

Volus engineer.

Juggernaut with AM III.

These two are kind of what I mean when I made this thread.

I generally think of them as the best kits to use a Cyclonic on.

All of my builds. Anything with an AM3, anything with Arc Grenades, anything with powerful ranged weapon DPS and any infiltrator (even with zero fitness) are still EZ to play on platinum.

If you gitgud, everything is effective. Cyclonics are among my least used armor mod next to power efficiency mods, and I never miss them. If I could get them to stop showing up so that I could get more Adrenaline (which I am constantly out of), Power amps and stability mods, I would do so.

They're basically the cryo ammo of armor mods. Better than explosive (efficiency mods) but still pretty worthless.

Drell, Vorcha, Fury, Justicar and Valkyrie are all great with AMIII, and don't necessarily need Cyclonics. Batarian and Krogan Soldier are tanky enough to play without Cyclonics and they get great mileage out of Power Amps. Infiltrators in general don't need Cyclonics. Turian Sentinel is legit without a Cyclonic.

Am I the ONLY person who plays this game and values Power Efficiency Mods?

Power Amps are only good on things that use direct damage powers, like flamers, grenades, and Slayer.

Power Efficiency Mods allow for faster explosions (the bulk of damage for many classes) or to take a heavier weapon (something I often find myself doing).

Putting a Power Amp on something like a Paladin, or Human Adept/Sentinel/Engineer is pretty ineffective in improving overall DPS as the bulk of your damage comes from explosions. However, throwing on a Power Efficiency Mod and a heavier weapon will impact your overall DPS by improving gun damage output and/or faster explosions.

Power Efficiency Mods allow you to turn a power spammer, into a hybrid one-(wo)man army.

Of course, grenade kits and weapons platforms benefit more from Power Amps and Adrenaline Mods (respectively).

Cyclonics, for the most part, teach bad habits like standing out in the open and getting shot. Shield Power Cells (as all shield recharge speed) can get you into trouble due to lack of interaction with shield gate. However, a full shield recharge batarian can keep their shield number high enough to mostly negate this issue, so there are exceptions.

Platinum is much more about damage output than survivability, which is why offensive armour mods and powerful characters (like the Fury) do much better than tanky characters (like the Juggernaut). I say this as a whole-hearted lover of a GOOD Juggernaut, a great character for Gold, but I would take almost any other character for Platinum.

Shield Power Cells (as all shield recharge speed) can get you into trouble due to lack of interaction with shield gate.

Could you explain this a little further?  My (scrub-tier, non-Platinum player) understanding is that as-fast-as-possible shield recharge speed is valuable because it restores your shield gate.  Even with a shield strength of 1, the shield gate mechanic enables you to fully absorb a shot, so having shields back online as quickly as possible can only help.

I believe that base shield recharge speed on Platinum is slower than Silver and Gold; is that anything to do with what you mean?

I toss it on my vanilla adept sometimes if I'm going for fast BE's.

My pally usually gets Cyclonics cause I get myself into trouble a lot with all my shieldbonking.

Shield gate is a set value depending on difficulty setting.  Decreasing your Shield Recharge speed does not decrease the Shield Gate timer.  So if you get your Shield Recharge down to 0.72 seconds, you will still have the 3 or 4 second Shield Gate timer if they get broken.

If you are tanky enough to take the hit and not get Shield Gated, then Shield Recharge becomes a little more valuable.

Genuinely curious: how are volus good candidates for cyclonics?

Enhancing shield recharge rate doesn't directly affect shield gate but can help preserve it if you manage to duck out of the line of fire before it breaks. When the pressure is on and enemies go into a feeding frenzy it's valuable to be able to buffer the gate with extra shields before re-engaging. Less time hiding means more time killin.

1250 Shields with 0 Fitness and around 90% Damage Reduction goes a long way, you can even throw a few points into Fitness if you want, I think Dalakaar tanks Platinum with Fitness 4.

Value successfully elucidated. I never considered cyclonics on them due to low base shields but I wasn't considering the damage reduction. Wheels spinning. To the kalence playground!

Edit: While I'm at it, does the 90% DR take effect with 2 shield boosts or does it require another source?

Shield Boost then Heavy Melee Shell, it's so good that gothpunkboy89 thinks of it as an exploit

but dont worry his opinion is worthless
