Random idea(s) floating through my head.

I'm going to post it so you can poke holes in it, or agree with it. Or something. (Can't go wrong with posting stupid gifs)

...

Mass Effect has a longstanding tradition of conversation. And one of the best things about MP is that you skip (almost) all of the conversation and get to the juicy fighting. There's only so much spacebar I can stands, and then I can't stands no more.

However, what if at the beginning of every mission, those jerks that don't have time for aerial bombardment, actually did.

What I mean is, via a very quick (mission-relevant) conversation, the mission gave two, three, maybe even four options, to help the team. A vote through the conversation would decide what "Mission Bonus" (for lack of a better term) was awarded at the beginning of the game. In the case of a tie the bonus would be random.

So lets say they actually did a bombardment option, enemies spawning in could all start with lower health/shields.

Or successful espionage gives the team a "ping" of where enemies are spawning, or better yet forewarning of where the devices/drone will be popping up before it's there.

Maybe a supply drop is successful and all ammo boxes on the map provide one extra grenade and a small increase to ammo regen periodically.

Hell, go a step in a completely different direction. Give a credit bonus for making the mission harder. Either by selecting no bonus, or by giving the enemies an increase to shields/numbers, again up to vote, and random in case of a tie.

It would of course have to be balanced, but giving you the option at the beginning of the game for "aerial bombardment". Finally...

The other idea, is Objective Wave Bonuses.

So you know that drone you escorted through the map? Maybe after that drone uploads whatever critical intel it had, that critical intel helps the team in some way. Maybe by sealing off a door specifically designed to eliminate a spawn for the rest of the match? Or the drone itself could become an NPC, engaging (in a modest manner) the enemy, or refilling all teammates shields periodically, etc.

The possibilities are endless really, but it'd be nice to see some layers of strategy, rather than tactics, applied to the map in a way that's consistent with the fact that this is an MP based off an SP RPG.

Kk. Done shooting the sh*t.

In general I like the idea of adding a strategy layer to MP. If these are incorporated into ME:A MP, we know who called it  ^_^

The choices should be automatic or pre-set in the lobby. Newbes have enough to worry about without adding more to the learning curve. I just have a hunch that PUGs and voting don't go well together.

Good point, although with a dearth of lobbies I could see presets being a problem. My thinking was more along the lines of SWTOR's flashpoint convo system, wherein the team decides whether to airlock someone or not. Just not on that scope, but with that level of, erm, "Democracy".

Could instead have the options increase by game difficulty? No options on the lowest level, just plug'n'play. Then when you get up to whatever the equivalent of Platinum is you can actually earn a few different choices along the way. Would make progressing through the difficulties a bit more rewarding than just throwing all the factions together in boss spam.

Nice ideas, I hope they're implemented.

(Captain Obvious notices that there is a hole in the condom.)

Edit: Is there a ME:A ideas thread because I can't seem to find it.

I would generally want the objective waves to be configurable in the lobby.  You could set each of the objective waves to random or set to a specific objective.  That way, your team could discuss how you want to tackle the battle instead of flying in blind.  Like you have recon that tells you generally what kind of objective are likely to occur in the match.  This should help ease the newcomers in instead of having someone discuss what to do in the objective as soon as it randomly pops up and what to press.

I would love this. Good idea.

Very true.

On the whole terrific ideas, however...

...the original post contains none of the epeen, degenerate bluster or mean-spirited denigration that is required here on this forum.

Reported.
