In Dragon Age Inquisition only special NPCs hairstyles are animated and they aren't available for PC. I think it's wrong - in Falout 4 all hairstyles are animated and your companions can have same hairstyle as you do - it doesn't hurt anyone and it's nice. If someone is bothered by another character having same hairstyle he can switch it. It's weird that BioWare keeps them only for companions. Can we have it normally in Mass Effect? If NPC can look like we do why can't we look like companions without mods? I'm bothered because BioWare keeps all best features for companions - Sera's armors, Ashley's switching hairstyle (it was nice that she had them pinned during fight)... I hope you agree and someone from BioWare might see this. Character creation is important part so don't focus on companions look, let us make our protag look like we want.
Companion exclusive hairstyles - bad?

I like comps having unique hairstyles. Sure it might not make much sense that the barber can't make your hair like the comps but it's unique, and that's what matters... right?

Not really. My protag looks like NPC that no one remembers because they stole good hair for companions. Lame.

Pointless. Even more pointless if the companion doesn't have hair (Salarian/Turian/Krogan).

I'm all for more customisation options, but I don't mind some crewmembers having certain hairstyles unique to them if it fits their character. ME3 Jack is a good example ![]()

Huh, I have never put much thought in this stuff. I am quite indifferent really, I won't complain if BW does/doesn't implement this. They give me short hair for my male Pathfinder and 'sall good.

I enter every thread without looking at the person's user name.
Besides, I've met some weird guys online who like to put Lady in their usernames as well.

So males don't care about roleplaying with body? Hairstyle says much about character. Short hair like Cassandra's - she's practical, but she focuses on her good look; changing like Ashley's - she adjusts; no hair like Liara - she's freaking alien.
If ignoring details (and details make whole thing) is male only then from bi I'm going full ****** from now.

I'm still annoyed because my Shepard can't use the hairstyle of the deafult FemShep. Still can't understantand why is not possibile to use it in the CC.
Locking haistyles is terribly annoyng. In DAI I would have loved Cassandra's hair or Leliana's for my characters. These limitationa re quite stupid, even more because is not like BioWare ever made an aestetic pack with hair and eyebrows, just lock some styles to have the player look at the only in game hair that are decent not letting the player use it. ![]()
BioWare already made very few good hairstyles, and have this horrible politic of not letting the player use those in the CC, leaving him/her with just the forgettable NPC's style, while NPCs or default protagonist got all the goods. ![]()

Not as much as females do. And they few who do, mainly care about matching their character to fit their own personal look. While roleplaying will play a part, it's very subtle. On the topic of squamate hair styles, the care is even less that their personal character.
The only exception might be if a female looked as ridiculous and unattractive as Jack did. Very few women look good with bald heads. Bald head w/ tattoos and a bitchy personality? Great. ![]()
I'm of course speaking from a man's perspective and of other men who I know who play RPGs.
Roleplaying & appearaces of course matter, just not that much.

Cassandra's and Sera's hairstyle is what everyone needs. Also, Josie's eyebrows. I might look like human being instead of potato. Needles to say, I won't be plastic surgeon.

Roleplaying doesn't matter in RPG. Yeah, great logic. With DAI's quest quality roleplaying was the only thing that was left.
Jack and Samara were the only female characters that weren't ugly. Other looked like I made them in character creator. :|
Such manly perspective, wow. Still waiting for this magical moment when XY people will stop acting in normal life and admit they care. Because they do, they are only afraid to speak it aloud. All my male friends spend so much time in character creator, download tons of mods for character modification that I start believing we live in different universes. Check YouTube. Tons of mods chaning apperance presented by men, upvoted by men and used by men (even if made by women).

I never said it didn't matter. Read the last line you quoted of me.
No matter how pretty or ugly your team mate looks, their chances of living or dying after a combat engagement dont differ in anyway. So unless that hairstyle includes and defensive buff, of an increased reload speed or overall damage output, its pretty pointless.
I's rather have ugly team mates who survived in battle vs attractive dead ones. Stop being so superficial, looks really don’t matter.
Furthermore, I think a feature like this would be a waste of development resources.
Next you'll want to change your team mates voice pitches as well.
All in the name of "roleplaying"

I shall only accept fabulous suicide squad, dead or ugly not involved (unless you're undead).
Looks matter. The only thing that makes us different from other animals is that we can make ourselves better - we can make ethics, we can work on ourselves and so we can work on our bodies (because we're not only minds, we are minds stuck in meat). I understand face. I don't understand hair or clothing. Be better than you are. We are all going to die so live fabulous.

Maybe the solution to this problem is to make the hair creation system more like the system for creating facial features, where you would be able to lengthen and shorten the bangs, sides, back, etc., and choose to put spiky vs. straight vs. shaved in particular areas of the head. Perhaps there are graphics/movement problems with this and so it is too hard to implement.
Edit: I just discovered that some games do allow this feature to some degree, e.g., Black Desert. (I don't play very many games so I am a bit ignorant of all the stuff out there.)

To be fair, you want to know when appearances come first to men? When they play games like Skyrim modded where you can have sexy all nude companions around you all the time. But I assure you, as soon as they "relieve" themselves in the real world, they'll no longer care as much.
Now, I don't mind at all customizing clothing, or armor, but hair? Seriously? You're such a girl. ![]()

I think it would end up badly - like Sera's hair on low settings. They could put more effort into creating various hairstyles instead of 10 variations of baldness.

Because you can speak on behalf of group of people based on having same chromosomes as they do. Nah. Everyone care about look. Faster we admit, faster we can move on.

I don't know, I kinda like that companions have more unique hairstyles. Hairstyles for PC should simply be better than they usually are, it often feels like BW doesn't use half the effort they use in companion hairstyles, well unless you go with default protagonist who sometimes has unique hairstyle that custom protagonist can't have like Marian Hawke had.

I have never played this game, Black Desert, having just discovered it on youtube, but its hair modification is similar to what I was suggesting. It seems to have a pretty extensive hair modification system. https://www.youtube....h?v=-QBg1fd82vg.

A Bioware employee, I forget who it was, said that he wanted something like that in more games, "so bad".
For my own personal character, sure? For my team mates? Nah. Let them look how the devs and artists envisioned them too look.
Next, you'll want to customize your enemy’s hair as well. Lol!
