You forgot to mention Calpernia's hair, which is also unique in Inquisition:

tumblr_nhet48kRsq1sdhr89o4_r1_500.jpg

Heck depending on the main story options, you wouldn't even see this model anywhere else.

Anyway, I agree that there's no harm in making the model available to the PC. But I don't really care much so long as the PC has decent options. BioWare protags, in my opinion, don't really have much going on when it comes to good hairstyles, though Inquisition went south on that. The number that I actually like for the Warden, Hawke, Shepard and the Inquisitor are in the single digits. The same goes for the eyebrows, though Inquisition's is easily the worst. Side note: I hate Ashley's ME3 hair a great deal, though mainly because I was fond of her hair up look in ME1 and was attached to the character.

That's a point I forgot. What the hell was up with those eyebrows? DA:I gave you a range between "ferret parked on my brow" and "absurdly bushy" with a few exceptions.

His hair was all curly in DAO and DA2, I wonder what happened to make his hair all straight and pretty in DAI. Did he get that spooked over Meredith's red lyrium rampage XD

He obviously straightens.

And the winner of the most disturbing avatar goes to: jbIis5R.png

My, what an interesting Succubus you have.

LOL! Yay for you seeing it for what it was instead of as a housewife after a bad day, which would be quite heinous indeed

You're cool with me.  :P

And if it was a housewife, well, you know, maybe, just maybe, she had it coming?  Infidelity can ruin lives.

I actually find myself disliking the change and it's not often I'm bothered by small things such as hair; I think it's because of how odd a thing it is to change. I'm wondering if it was because it was too difficult to make all-curly hair.

It wasn't only hair, his looks changed quite drastically from earlier games. DAO to DA2 was quite change already, but DA2 to DAI was even larger. It took quite time to get used to.

I know this is Mass Effect, but I just want to say that Inquisition had some good hairstyles, but I didn't like how they were all unisex.

NO, I am NOT bashing gays or lesbians or whatevers, so keep your pants on.

I'm just saying it lost a bit of uniqueness because of that.

By all means keep a majority available regardless of gender, but it would be nice if there were masculine hairstyles for men and feminine hairstyles for women.

As for companions, I don't think we should be able to change much of their appearance.  BioWare is creating the characters, we simply create our own.

What I really liked was how in Inquisition, a "Battlemage Robe" would take it's appearance based on who was wearing it.  Vivienne would have a stylish dress and cloak, Dorian would have something resembling a robe/toga, and Solas would look like Solas.  Even further, you could alter the colors to further differentiate.

Translating that to Mass Effect, just as an example:

"Ceramic Composite Plate" would look like an armored lab coat for a tech-based companion, battle-scarred for the veteran, or "bling-o-war" for a fashionable companion.

Each companion could have "their" color scheme, and you could adjust it as you please.

But hairstyles, that's more the realm of the Player Character instead of companions.

TL;DR

Different hair for different gender, not all the same.  Leave companions the way BioWare makes them.  Inquisition's customization system worked well, and can be easily implemented in other settings/installments.

Well, I'm just going to point out that in Fallout 4 that the hairstyles kind of mostly suck, so holding that out as an example...meh (I love the game, but still). I don't mind companions having exclusive hairstyles, because I don't enjoy seeing everyone looking like clones with exactly the same hair. However, I certainly expect the player character to have access to quality hairstyles that are on par with those of their companions or unique NPCs in the game.

So basically, the devs shouldn't take away the companions' unique hairstyles - they just need to add some nifty cuts for the player that would actually make our companions jelly about how cool our hair is. :P

I'd like squadmates to have distinct looks, both physically and in their clothes/armor. But I also don't want to feel that the protagonist got the short end of the stick, with bad hairs and bad armors.

Companions have their own unique hairstyles -- let's take a look.  Is it realistic?  No.  Is it a nice touch that adds to their character?  Oh hell yes.

I don't mind it, so long as their are hairstyles that look similar enough.

Squademates must have unique hairstyles.

If not, you may finish by having the same hairstyle for 2 persons. If they are not a lot physically different, it may be perturbing during the cutscenes, especially if you see the person from the back.

I'm fine with companions having unique hairstyles.

What I'd really like is unique hairstyles for the protagonist as well. Just 10-20 male and female hairstyles that are off-limits to all other NPCs, companions, etc.

The companions shouldn't have anything exclusive to them. All appearance pieces like hair or armor should be available to the protagonist as well.

Pointless. Even more pointless if the companion doesn't have hair (Salarian/Turian/Krogan).

Chances that thread creator is a female: 910% as men don't about about such frivolous things.

Thank you. I laughed. Best response I've seen in a long time.

Very bad.  The player should be deprived no options.

I don't mind NPCs having aesthetic features that are unique among NPCs (though not mechanical features - I don't see how to explain that within the setting), but the player should be free to decide whether to use those features on the PC.

But why restrict them?  Sure, have some strongly masculine or feminine styles (whatever that means), but why stop a player from using them cross-gender if that's what he wants to do?

I completely disagree.  Once we have the game, it's our reality to do with as we please.

Would that also extend to character alignment? Like, for instance, should I be able to simply switch current Vivienne out for a pro-mage freedom version?

Oh Please! Hair is right down on my list of importance.
Second, or even Third.

Second.

But I don't want to wear my companions hair.
I want to have hair that my companion wished they had.

Exclusive companion looks are cool..

But still, the player needs just as good in their options. What's the point of displaying good designs when the player themselves look like ****?

And if they don't want to make good options, might as well just go back to ME and DA2, and make a default protag that looks as good.

Still bitter about these.

If BW decided to go through with these as player-only hairstyles, I'd be happy. That's basically what I want from Andromeda. Give companions exclusive hairstyles to make them stand out, but give the player (apart from normal npc hair) some awesome exclusives too.

All character hairstyles should be represented with a range of 75 different variations of "bald." That'll end any hair controversy, because there won't be hair to speak of!

I agree with OP. Especially when I recall the fact that my male Inquisitor couldn't even have standard short hair like Alistair, Cullen or Cassandra (minus braid).

No. Go for braids. You would be so kawaii.

I wish there was well known command that unlocked companions hairstyles in character creation.

I'd prefer companion hair to be available to the pc. At the very least, no random NPCs or default protag should have hair a custom protag can't access. Looking at you, DA2.

How about companion hairstyles being part of a new game+ bonus? For those who don't want to accidentally look like a twin of their companion. I never really had that problem in DAO, where most companions had character creator hairstyles. But maybe that's one way to avoid the problem, since you'd already know what companions look like by the new game+?

If you want to, why not? I know many players wouldn't want to do that, but no one is saying they have to.
