In the part of the game where your warden is captured and sent to Fort Drakon, I understand you're supposed to be able to select two of your comrades to come to your rescue. When I make my selections, however, only one of the companions shows up and he/she can't make the rescue alone. Is this a glitch? Or am I doing something wrong?

I'd say glitch. I've never had this issue myself, but it sure sounds frustrating. I hope you find a workaround or a fix!

Probably a glitch, have you tried rescuing yourself? That one involves little combat if you make the appropriate persuasion choices.

Do you have extra dog slot installed?

I agree with luna, could be the extra dog slot that's causing the problem - that's what happens in my case anyway. If you have the extra dog slot installed, uncheck it in your options section (where the Downloaded content is) before you face Cauthrien, then check it again when the rescue is over. Hopefully that should help. ![]()

That is what happened to me. While I used extra dog slot, I had to choose Zevran. He was the only one who could do it on his own (very cunning he was). Or you could escape on your own, don't forget to get your gear out of the chest near the exit if you choose this option.

Yes, I have extra dog slot installed. Would that cause the glitch?
Escaping by yourself still works. So no one else has had the glitch of only one instead of two companions coming to your rescue? I have the PC ultimate edition (which I would've thought would've been free of such bugs).

Oops, I missed the last two posts. So extra dog causes the glitch. And I just "unchecked" dog, so everything should work. Many thanks!

Yes, extra dog slot causes that glitch (among others). If it still does not work, you may need to make a clean save (without the mod) before entering Howes estate, then make another save before getting caught.

Unchecking dog slot proved to be a good 90% solution. I had a save just before getting captured. Now when I select the two companion rescuers, they both appear. The only p\art of the glitch that remains is the cut scene between the two companions frequently shows only one companion talking to himself. My warden was ultimately saved by famed "Broma brothers of Antiva" -- Oghren and Zevran.
Upon returning to the Arl's estate, the LRS scene kicked in. Very nice, romantic scene!

Luna, my warden is a female city elf and another LRS scene (I think) kicked in after I killed Caladrius and the Tevinters. My city elf had dinner with Shianni, her father, and Soris and Leliana showed up in her Chantry robes.
One thing, though, in this run through Valendrian ended up missing -- supposedly already shipped out to Tevinter. Did I do something wrong?

Not Luna (obviously) but no, you didn't do anything wrong.
When the Warden is a City Elf, Valendrian cannae be saved. For a non-City Elf Warden, it's Cyrion who is always lost to the slavers. There's no way to save both. (My first Warden was a Tabris, and I cried when I realized what had happened to Valendrian. And I'm bereft whenever I play another origin and Cyrion is enslaved. /tmi)

Thanks for information, skymoves. You got to love the story-telling in Origins and how each different origin varies your perspective. I went into this playthrough wanting to spare Loghain even at the cost of Alistair leaving the wardens. However, given that I'm doing the city elf origin, the loss of Valendrian suddenly gives my warden a personal gripe against Loghain almost as strong as Alistair's. By contrast, when I played as a human noble, there isn't quite as direct a gripe. Howe is your main enemy; I didn't come across anything that indicated Loghain was aware that Howe massacred the Cousland family. Doing "unrest in the alienage" as a human noble, you sympathize with the plight of the city elves, but the knowledge that some of the elves have already been shipped to Tevinter doesn't sting all that much because it's no one you know.
Hence my warden's dilemma at the Landsmeets: will she spare Loghain after what happened to Valendrian? On the other hand, shouldn't she spare Loghain out of consideration for Anora? My warden would not have been able to save her father Cyrion if Anora hadn't made her aware of the situation in the alienage.

What would Howe possibly stand to gain by murdering everyone at Highever, unless he had Loghains word that once Cailan, Eamon, & the Couslands were dead & Logain made himself Regent, that he would make him Teyrn of Highever.
Cailan would never have made Howe Teyrn.
Why else would Loghain give away some of the most valuable land in Fereldon at a time when the states coffers were so low he had to sell people to the Tevinters.

I see what your saying. OTOH, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Cailan dies at Ostagar. Loghain warns Cailan about exposing himself to the enemy before the battle; so does Arl Eamon in a letter to Cailan. Unfortunately, Cailan chose to be foolhardy and lead his troops in a charge against an enemy with superior numbers. Howe couldn't have known this is the way things would work out.

Howe couldn't have known this is the way things would work out.
Unless that was exactly what he & Loghain had planned.
Cailan wanted to strengthen ties with Orlais, the only way Loghain could stop this was to kill him.
The only foolhardy thing Cailan did was trust Loghain.
It was Loghain's attack plan & it relied on a flanking manoeuvre that Loghain knew would never come.
From Loghain's position he could not see the battlefield, so there was no reason when the torch was lit, to think anything other than the battle was going to plan.

Escaping with Alistair on tow is pretty fun. Especially when you act as his prompter. ![]()

I had the same glitch. It was rather weird to see one of them missing while talking and a bit of shame. Extra dog slots can cause some not so funny glitches. I always use 'Skip Fade' mod and when I took Dog to the tower as one of three companions (Dog's nightmare is brief so welcome to me. Wynne's nightmare becomes really tedious after several playthroughs and I wanted to balance it out somehow), I couldn't escape the Fade and so had to go back to the previous save and drop Dog from the Companion list.
