Go into the ME2 Configure window located in the launch menu, scroll to the Summary Tab through the options to make sure your audio Sound Adapter is not set to Software Emulation.

It looks something like this "Audio Sound Adapter: SB X-Fi Audio [8C00] (emulated)
It should look like this "Audio Sound Adapter: SB X-Fi Audio [8C00]"

*don't worry if it says something other than 8C00

If it is in emulation just re-download the original driver to the card you own.
Then...

Control Panel>Sounds Speech Audio>  Sounds n Audio devices> Volume Tab> Speaker Settings (ADVANCED button) > Performance Tab: Full Hardware Acceleration  and Best sample rate conversion quality

Make sure all your sound menus are adjusted to the output hardware you're using.
(IE headphones or surrond sound speakers)

Check your Summary tab on the ME2 Config menu again just to make sure that your sound adapter is set to hardware and not emulation. And ... it should play without stutter....

Ok, a few questions -

1. What XFi card do you have?
2. What OS are you running?

As none of the above was applicable for me, Im running win7X86 and have a XFi X-music. The problem Im having is a audio/visual stutter in the main menu when starting the game - which is linked with the text appearing in the little computer screen on the left hand side of the main menu.

I'm having a sound "skipping" issue, whereby I'll miss a word in someone's speech because it jumps ahead.

- XP 64

- Azunetech XFI Forte sound card

- Intel core i7 2.6ghz

- 4g ddr3 1333

- 2 x Nvidia 9800 GTX
