Can someone recap the argument against those outfits? (Besides being a bit anachronistic, that is.) I always checked out of the WEWH threads early because there was so much whining about the timed aspects.
Many people find it unattractive. To elaborate, I will just state my own personal reasons for disliking that particular outfit. Note that I don't object to the use or existence of the formal attire. I like the idea that the Inquisition has a uniform, and that all of the leading members of the Inquisition appear wearing it at the ball.
My dislike stems from the following issues... I would prefer that the Inquisitor's uniform be a bit more distinctive, with the Inquisition sigil or some other adornment marking them as the Inquisitor, but still keeping the primary uniform. I also think the colors were terrible and didn’t coordinate with any other Inquisition uniform seen in the game before that point. The red and gold I’ll give you as that is on some of the Inquisition flags and banners. But the blue sash? Where did that come from? It’s almost as if it were a nod to our hosts for the evening, Orlais. The blue sash was too reminiscent of the blue sash worn by Prince Charles, which is from the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and is "limited to the Sovereign, the Prince of Wales, and no more than 24 members, or Companions."
And your point about the anachronism is a good one, as the styling does not match any of the other Inquisition uniforms, or really anything else seen in the games until this point.
Those particular colors were terrible, but I won't go as far as to say that any other color combination, even the nice looking black and red seen in this mod, would have appeased those players who didn't like the removal of choice, or those with female PCs who would like to have worn a gown. But you can't please everyone.
I just generally wonder about some of the art choices for these games. Take the Skyhold attire. Changing the pants and boots to a darker leather makes it look so much better, or even adding a subtle pattern to the jacket. I totally understand why they went with the neutral colors, but they went overboard with the neutrality.
