Hahahahaha oh Maker, I never compared the two, but seriously, it's almost the same as Prince William's outfit.. Oh boy. Big nope.

The problem with me isn't the outfit shape, but the color. This red is like a punch in the eye. It does not look formal. It is far too bright as well. Have you seen anyone else in the Winter Palace wearing such a red? NO! Maybe "Wine red", or "Bordeaux", however you want to call it, but not this flashy thing that almost hurts when you look at it!

The dress itself can also look nice in other colors.
For instance with this mod:

2%2042_zpspwdmxige.png

It looks classy and elegant.

So that red's good enough for Prince William, but not good enough for you? :D

As for blending in with the Winter Palace crowd, presumably the intent is to do the opposite of that.

By all means have a uniform, but it doesn't need to look like something out of Disney.

Umm... you do realize that William and Kate are real people, right? Not Disney characters.

I think they mean that when animated it ends up looking a lot more disney-ish. Obviously William and Kate are real people.

Personally I just don't think that the uniforms fit with the rest of the wardrobe style shown in game; it looks like they were pulled out of a trunk in the attic.

Not to mention, an aspect that I love of the game is how everyone has their own style of dress and now we're all stuck looking like a line up of toy soldiers.

We knew about the ball for weeks, and you're telling me this is the best the inquisition tailors can do?

Well, you did say the outfit was anachronistic, so yes, it's good for Prince William but not for Dragon Age. I think not just anachronistic but also rather incongruous in the Dragon Age world.

Thank god for mods, the white is totally impractical for the quest but the Inquisition looked good and my Quizzy got to wear a pretty dress.

Spoiler

And Solas ditched the face clipping hat.

Yes, but another shade of the same color also would have been ok.. This red is too intense and bright, they look like Santa Claus :P
Also I never said it's good for William XD It's too much for him as well. :P :P :P

Agreed.

I use the Mod that changes the outfit to black with a red sash. Too bad it does not carry over for Trespasser.

Considering Bioware added in the outfit change station, I assumed they were listening to players. Well they did but half-assed it as always. Go to change my Inquisitor's outfit in Trespasser assuming everyone else would change. Nope. Of course not. That would make sense and goodness forbid if sense and Bioware go hand and hand. Seeing as to how ridculious my character looked with a different color outfit, I had to switch back to the Disney one.

And, yes, Solas's hat. First time I saw it on Youtube. I remember Dr. Pepper shooting out of my mouth and then laughing. While some people are trying to figure out the mysteries of the universe; I am trying to figure out the mystery of why Bioware is obsessed with ugly hair, outfits, hats, weapons and armor.

Look at poor Teagan looks like he has a diaper on his head.

Well, if you finished Trespasser I would have thought the reason would be rather obvious...

Spoiler

Apologies if this comes across as unnecessarily snarky.

I get that, it's the same reason everyone had N7 armour at the end of ME3. But given that it would be "hard" (but not impossible) to do that for multiple possible outfits, they shouldn't have chosen that outfit in the first place, given the fan reaction to in the base-game. So many things look so much better, mods or not. Even just changing the colour helps quite a bit!

Also, why isn't the Inquisition uniform in Inquisition colours? Bah. Bioware needs new aesthetics people, badly.

Well they likely chose that model because it is one of the few standardized models for all races and genders, which is also a single piece rather than torso, arms, and legs (most of the craftable armor types). And of course it makes sense to use that in Trespasser in Halamshiral as it corresponds to what we used in the previous Halamshiral sequence, and also that all of our advisors (minus whomever becomes Divine) are wearing it.

I don't care for it either, but there are reasons for going with that choice for Trespasser.

You definitely have a valid point; while I despair that the uniform was created in the first place, it's entirely logical to use the uniform again when returning to Halamshiral, I feel it helps give a sense of story continuity and unity.

Yes, that mod is fantastic!

I know that character specific attire would've been too time and work consuming, but I love this piece of art so much (spoiler for size):

I would actually be happy with this uniform. It's gorgeous and it seems to be much more world appropriate, and keeping in with Inquisition themes than the red monstrosity.

Yeah.. I might be repeating myself.. but it's not the uniform... it's the color that ruins it :P

The dress is on Nexus called The Dress  ;)

ITA it's mostly the bright red that ruins the formal outfit re-coloured it's not so bad.

I, for one, don't mind the formal attire for a female inquisitor. I do dislike the colours, the design and the weird body shapes however. There should be insignias but there wasn't any. The whole thing is just lazy to me; cookie produce.

As long as it's consistent.

I still don't get the hate for that red. Is this a problem with red in particular, or primary colors in general?

It's more glaring with red, but I think it's directly towards all primary colours. There's a tone associated with colours, and I find the red instead of looking serious and official, to feel almost mocking which rubs me the wrong way.

Hmmm... because formal gear in 2015 doesn't use primary colors that way? Yeah, that went out with the Edwardian era. I kind of like that era, myself; particularly in a classic Technicolor movie, which is certainly the look Bio was going for.

How does 2015 design tie into Ferelden or Orlesian design, pray-tell?
