I am not sure what bard you might be referring to I thought they gave one of each class.
Thought the 3rd was a Legionnaire. (aka Tank or Beast). and livid,walking fortress and bulwark are a must asap.
We got a free chest with Avvar, Zither or Isabella if you remember that far back.
Thank you for the responses. I will try and move the difficulty up to threatening. I just didn't want to move up too fast before getting the hang of the game.
I have been pretty much only playing keeper to be a barrier bot with some CC until I get things for other classes.
You could also bring your bard (aka Virtuoso) to threatening. I found that most players in threatening are actually over power for threatening already. They would rather have the run speed buff (to make the long run faster) from the Virtuoso than having barrier from then Keeper. And at higher level, you could take the upgraded Power Chord to dispel things.. or Cold Beat to dot things from a distance. I found that Cold Beat draws very little aggro.
And if you take your archer, just make sure you don't use Long Shot unless you like the fade. 
It draws aggro like no one else business. If you want to level up fast, take your Lego and just start to shield wall and block things. You won't be killing much but you get a lot of xp just doing blocks.
Just got the Alchemist and it is my new favorite thing. Poison clouds and mine fields. Lots of fun.

I usually carry people on Threatening and Routine on Sunday evenings, when I am done with promoting for the weekend. I do this purely to help beginners get their first few promotions, because I've had people kick me a lot when I started out (even on Routine). I don't take the game that seriously. 
I got exams coming up so I probably won't be playing much this weekend, or the next. But I will most likely pop in for a few matches on my breaks.
If you play as Legionnaire, you can simply block attacks using Shield Wall. If you're getting fond of the Alchemist, use elemental mines and stealth and try not to get killed. I can get through Routine and threatening pretty quick when I play as my Archer.
You can join me on perilous too if you wish but I am not always able to carry, and will rely on other teammates. We sometimes do Nightmare for the sake of XP, so finishing the mission isn't always the goal.
This month, lots of people will be doing Routine and Threatening because of the challenges. So you'll have lots of matches to play. Just wait for everyone to get into the game.

I had the same issue as you. No players or matches when using quick match option. I realized that I had a corrupted game since I wasn't able to join anyone's game (even my friend's).
I contacted EA Help, they checked I had all DLCs installed and they told me to reinstall the whole game again. I'm doing that right now, so hopefully I'll be able to play and find matches again.
So, my recommendation is that you try to join a friend's game and see if you get the "DLC content doesn't match" error. If you get that error that's the reason why you can't find any matches using the quick match.

I don't mind at all. More players I get to play with, the merrier....even though there's a 4 player limit on it LOL
