The point is to sell a Mass Effect game, yes?  That's why "Mass Effect" is in the title, I assume.  Otherwise why not make a whole new IP.  Probably be easier after that mess they left in the last game.

And that's why it matters.  Is this truly a Mass Effect game?  Or is it Mass Effect in name only?  Cashing in on name recognition and notoriety?

But going by this, is KoTOR then a Star Wars game in name only? It's set thousands of years before the films, and most of the locations and all of the characters were created strictly for the game. It has Jedi, lightsabers, and wookies though.

Seems to me that even if MEA is happening in a different galaxy, on a different timeline, if it has biotics, asari, and mass effect fields (to just name a few things), then it's quite clearly and unquestionably a Mass Effect game. It doesn't need to have anything further to do with the previous games, and depending on where they start the story, it will inevitably have historical ties to that particular continuity anyway.

Um, well, this is the kind of extremist rhetoric I was talking about?? EA did not ruin Battlefront. I played 2 and I'm enjoying 3. They're very similar. Battlefront was about playing with or against your friend and getting to slaughter countless drones with your light saber. It still is.

Extremist? It's fact that EA is so greedy it has become ridiculous. Battlefront might be a good game after you've shelled out $120 (!) for the full experience. That's the biggest rip-off I have ever heard of. I wanted to buy the game until I read about this scam. If they pull such crap on us with ME:A, I'm done with Mass Effect.

I'm not claiming ME:A is ruined for sure. I enjoyed all previous Bioware games and I'm still hopeful it will be a decent game. But EA is always a reason to be wary. If you think EA has a good influence on content quality, I strongly disagree.

Working with "the devil" has benefits, of course. Bioware probably has a much bigger budget than before. They're not going to go bankrupt if one game doesn't sell enough. So in theory they could experiment more with ideas, if so allowed. I prefer Bioware owned by EA to no Bioware at all. I just really really wish it wasn't EA.

I know that after the ending fiasco of ME3 I should be cautious and skeptical about MEA but I do have to admit that my excitement level is extremely high...

(Credits to whoever made the pic)

I am not following that rabbit to a dark, secluded area again, that's for sure...

It has Jedi, Sith, Mandalorians, familiar alien species, at least a few familiar locations.  Not to mention a couple of references to the Knights of the Old Republic comic books.

But the thing is, with Mass Effect, we've seen minimal indications of these. And given we are shedding an entire galaxy in order to escape the ME3 fiasco, I think concern that this will be Mass Effect in name only is a valid one.

DAI 's teaser at about the same point that MEA did its teaser was far more of a "Dragon Age" feel than what we've seen so far for MEA

See, we've thus far been given no reason to believe that we won't see a ton of familiar alien species, familiar technology, familiar abilities, familiar design, references to the past in the Milky Way (likely before the ending fiasco, of course) - in fact, I think the chance of that not being the case is vanishingly small. Which is why I don't really understand the trepidation about it unless you have a very intense personal connection to the original trilogy (which, granted, is a thing).

To me, it's like going from Fallout 3 and the Capital Wasteland to Fallout 4 and the Commonwealth - except, in this case, I like everything about Mass Effect more than I ever liked Fallout.

Or maybe Battlefront just isn't a very good game, full stop.

Who's actually confused about whether this is a Mass Effect game? Are you? Really?

If so, why? You can't actually think that, say, biotics won't be coming back.

The only notable thing is that the teaser did a poor job of advertising the game but even that showed a few quick things like a Paladin pistol, the Mako, and a Krogan in the background.

Nobody should seriously believe that ME:A is going to lack in things like biotics and mass effect fields at this point just because they weren't seen in the 45 seconds of actual trailer that we got(the other 45 being nothing more than Johnny Cash).

I believe, that the ME:A trailer made an impression that they are pretty much done with Milky Way. The only way it makes sense is that they´ve decided to never return back and adress the problems. Instead of it, they´ve decided run away with easier way, just as choosing Deus Ex in order to stop the Reapers.

While I am not against the idea of leaving Milky Way, I am having a problems to trust in BioWare writing skills since the DA2, I am even more sceptical towards their storytelling. The thing is that there is too many questions of how they are planning to approach to this story, what will be the point, who is an enemy or game mechanics of colonizing the planets etc.

I am curious of how far they´ll go with this, if they are realy going to do something detailed and refreshing, or something primitive and lazy. I can think that this may go in two ways, and so far it seems that they will go with something easier, they´ve been doing it for last 5 years.

Yes let's all talk about how we don't care about a game while we're sitting on the forum for the same game.

Curiosity in a game does not equal excitement for a game.
From what's been leaked I'm not excited at all, but am curious to see how it turns out and if it will be worth a purchase.

I think it'll be awesome. I don't see any reason it shouldn't be either. Experienced developers, decent writers, great engine which they now have experience with thanks to DA:I. I am ready!

Technically s/he said 'not care' in their initial post not 'excited.' And there ARE people on here who insist that they do not care but still hang around.

You know technically is hard to care like hard to breath, there is still a breeze going down. It's different from not caring which was technically not written.

I'm not 'excited' aka "OMG So hyped!11", leave that to EA Marketing, but I'm certainly interested enough to look forward to it. Besides I'm pretty sure BW will able to hold  their minimum standards at least and make pretty enjoyable game at best.

Nope! I'm a Medival-sword and shields type girl. It makes me so happy to be able to cut through annoying enemies without a gun or a first person shooter. Yeah, I like cutting people's head off with a sword, rather than a gun. (Although Fallout 4 sounds interesting... Despite it being a fist person shooter it sounds way better then the ME series. Seriously, I watched it on YouTube to avoid myself the pains of having to play a Star Wars-like game with guns. ) Wow, I just summarized Shepards life. He/She is either a Jedi or a Sith

Much the same for me, really. I like science fiction and I like RPGS, so a sci-fi RPG should be right up my street. However, my disappointment with ME3, the new game's disconnection with the Milky Way settings, and the characters that were the best part of the experience for me, has tempered my enthusiasm.

So I am 'curious' about ME:A, but at the moment it's in the same way I might be 'curious' about the results of a tax audit; with a fair amount of trepidation. It might be a nice surprise but it makes more sense to expect the opposite.

That break is what really has me interested. I was fine with the series ending at ME 3 but if they are going to continue it I don't want the same characters popping up over and over again. I guess it comes from my love of Deep Space 9. Oh sure it was set in the same universe as TOS and TNG but it had a new sector of space to explore, new characters and a new spin on the "Utopia" of the federation that wasn't afraid to poke fun at past silliness....like the federations lack of money.

Jake: We work to better ourselves.

Nog: What does that mean?

Jake: .....That I have no money!

You can use rocket powered sledgehammers in Fallout 4 and explode people's heads.

If you've ever played an Elder Scrolls game, it's basically that except with a post apocalyptic theme with some 60s sci-fi thrown in.

But it's likely that the new characters we get will be of the same quality as the old characters. Would the absence of the old characters really be a strike against it for you? Eventually, their story has to end. Besides, even if the game were still set in the Milky Way, and (god forbid) still starred Shepard, we'd all still be expecting to go to pretend planets, see new alien species and meet up with new characters. I'm not sure why it's such a big deal if it happens in Andromeda instead of the Milky Way.

I just don't know. Generally speaking, I was pretty disappointed with ME2 and ME3 for various reasons, but that's why I'm so excited for MEA.
