If you want to talk about realism, there's no way that it makes sense to leave Connor alive and possessed while you go all the way to the other side of Lake Calenhad and back to get mage help (possibly having to deal with the issues happening within, to boot).  Connor was shown to be able to possess people's minds and force them to attack innocents.  He could raise an undead army.  Allowing him to remain even for a night without addressing it is foolish.  So what if Alistair stays behind?  If Connor could possess Teagen, why not Alistair too?  And what if he attacked Alistair outright?  Or killed Eamon?  Realistically, it makes much more sense to end it immediately to prevent further loss of life at a larger scale.  Then the choice would come down sacrificing Isolde to save her son or just killing the abomination outright.

Realistically why could't Jowan just use a bit of blood from multiple people instead of milking Isolde dry?

Well, they could just handwave that with any arbitrary magic rule they wanted.

Not really. There are many cases of blood rituals in DA that had multiple people involved.

And do not give in to political correctness, I beg you.

This is a new galaxy, they are not going to like strangers intruding their lands, like any people do. Rascism in the game against you and your crew can accour, as well against them.

completely support this.

people are too soft. i mean id give them a pass in real life. but when it seeps into the virtual world. jesus.

Well, it is at least three but at most it is four. Liara, Samantha, and Steve no matter what, and Kaidan if he is alive.

Yeah, I thought about Kaidan, Samantha and Steve mostly. I don't consider Liara as one of them, but I see your point.

I'd rather not see strength equated with giving into hatred and vitriol either... which can often (at least to my observation) mean ridiculing these "softs."

It seems there is no crime or shame in being soft, only in attempting to erase, displace, or otherwise diminish actual strength can it become something like that.

The breast pump just seemed less traumatic than cutting a bunch of people open.

Greater consequences? Sure. Not entirely sure why racism would be a thing specifically now when all parties are presumably used to interacting with different species but them presenting a greater level of cultural clash would fit with what we know of the background. For the species of Andromeda we must seem like the worst kind of aggressors, coming from an entirely new galaxy to take their ****. Probably with technological superiority too, it would colour all of our interaction with them.

I guess you've never GMed a game. You think Bio couldn't come up with a reason why Jowan, with no lyrium or soecial equipment, couldn't do something that other blood mages could do. Hell, it could be as simple as Jowan not being good enough at blood magic yet.

I'm with the OP on the main issue. A gritty and deliciously brutal RPG with well-handled mature themes and no compromises for fear of outrage would be awesome, and the addition of a game like that would only benefit the video game culture. And Bioware is perfectly capable of making that work as long as they put in the actual time and effort.

I do think it's unlikely, though.

We could also appear as benign aliens come from beyond the sky to fulfill their dreams, teach them enlightened government, end bloody tribal warfare and set them on the path of starflight themselves. Or all-powerful strangers who cruelly refuse to share our gifts because we have some kind of problem with ritually eating your children as they reach adolescence to keep the population in check as part of a deep-seeded religion, or surgically removing the ability to feel anything but happiness.

I imagine that a lot of the roleplaying in Andromeda will be about what sort of impression, if any, you intend to make in different first contact scenarios and how you handle VASTLY alien cultures and mindsets. One of the reasons I'm looking forward to this game is all the brilliant literature Bioware has to draw inspiration from on the subject. The only issue in the original trilogy that even vaguely dealt with this theme was the uplifting of the Krogan and the question of the genophage. This is a chance for the series to really go somewhere with its sci-fi elements.

Mass Effect is sprinkled with this stuff.

Prothian, Asari, Salarian uplifting of others.

And even Reaper and Quarian in another way.

Some focused on much more than others though, for sure.

There are many good choices, but it all depends on what you personally care about. Example:

DA:O werewolves vs elves.

1) Person doesn't care about military might, but cares about being nice - choice is no brainer - lift the curse.

2) Person cares about military might, and doesn't care about being nice - choice is again no brainer - kill the elves and recruit werewolves.

3) Person cares both about military might AND about being nice - now the choice is difficult and interesting.

...

My DA:O choice, IMO, is the Anvil of the Void. Because on an abstract level even, having golems versus the unending hordes of darkspawn might be all that keeps the dwarves from extinction.

Now I want to play DA:O again; getting little flashbacks...

They can make as many decapitations, arms blown off, entrails flying all over the place, blood filling craters, whole worlds blown up.

But for gods sakes do NOT show a nipple!

I would like more of the feeling that there could be Danger! around every corner. I want to feel more uneasy in BW's game world's. I feel very safe with BW games. Except for that Banshee temple in ME3.

And if they're pursuing the whole pioneer/frontier/exploration thing, then they need to be be bold and truthful. The whole thing was brutal as heck for all involved. The native people already on the lands, and the pawns of pioneer's used to push out the natives.  There was cannibalism. Betrayal. Murder. Criminals. Natural disasters. Winter.

There were times when people worked together, made alliances, intermarried and settled with each other. Other times it was sheer blood bath for all.

I hope BW is not going to fall into the trap of pioneering being strolling along on your horse playing the banjo riding into the sunset. It was not like that at all. It was not a John Wayne movie.

In addition, it would be nice if BW thought about the differences in perspective between the people that are out there doing the pioneering, and the more...bureaucratic hub that is far away from the frontier, but still trying to influence it. Very different priorities, perspectives and beliefs between those two.

I also believe that they should draw inspiration from real life events, such as the colonization of the americas, and the settlement of the western US, when the settlers built their homes, but at the severe cost and almost destruction of the natives....
Oh god we will be at the same level as the reapers soon enough...

Seriously?

You think displacing a few species is equal to galactic genocide every fifty thousand years for the last two billion?

I think we weigh the Reaper's by a different scale.

It's only a matter of time - it's only taken a couple of hundred years on Earth for us to begin to trigger a mass extinction event, atmospheric damage and a warming climate; which, in the worst case scenario could lead to a a lack of a significant heat differential between the poles and the equator. This could, theoretically, cause a drop off in the Atlantic deep ocean currents and a stagnation of the ocean leading to a drop in water/oxygen levels (relatively warm stagnant water).

This is an ideal environment for purple bacteria - a lovely substance that produces sulphur as a metabolic by-product. This would slowly acidify the sea into a mild sulphuric acid which would be absorbed into the atmosphere through the normal water cycle - although perhaps more readily with a warmer environment. So, massive storms raining sulphuric acid down onto the land killing most plant life and ultimately destroying virtually all life as we know it on the planet... and we've not even got an escape plan yet.

Imagine what we can do with a billion years!*

Ok - the Reapers were harvesting advanced organic life across the galaxy due to flawed programming logic. Humans would just destroy life out of bumbling carelessness, greed and incompetence. Not sure which is worse really.

*thankfully we, as a species, won't last that long.

I dislike this notion that we should make everything "gritty and dark".

So I'm going to vote that we have unicorn aliens that fart rainbows, because it would be hilarious. Both in-game and on the forums.
