So I was excited when my friend told me that Jade Empire is free on origin. I downloaded it, chose Chinese in language, but when it finished downloading and I entered the game, all the text in game including menu and dialogue are messed up, broken, and unrecognizable, which I assume is something like 'majibake'.

I found no solution so I re-downloaded it, this time in English language. The menu was at last at least readable, but still when I started the game all the dialogues go like this:

 

 

Does anyone know how to solve this? Or why is this happening? I just want to play the game, no matter in Chinese or English. Any help is appreciated.

I had the same problem before but I got the in-game text change to English by modify the configuration file at

 

\program files(x86)\origin games\Jade Empire\JadeEmpire.ini

 

open the config file with notepad, find the line 'Subtitles' and change the value to 1:

 

Subtitles=1

 

Save it and restart the game, hope this help!

Though unfortunately, it didn't work. I have tried both the chinese version and english version, both remained the same after I changed the subtitles.

 

I guess I will have to buy it on steam then
