I just finished a playthrough as a female city elf rogue Warden who rejects the DR and instead makes the ultimate sacrifice when killing the Archdemon.  This is my first time doing the US and I must say, I was somewhat disappointed at how it ultimately played out.  Once you've made the grim choice of accepting death, one would think hints of your impending death would make it's way into conversations with the other characters, particularly your significant other (in this case Leliana), but it really doesn't.  No added drama where one would expect it.

Then comes the grand finale.  I would've expected shock on the part of your comrades as your warden drops dead after killing the AD, particularly on the part of your significant other.  (A tearful rendition of 'In Uthenera' would've been most appropriate at a moment like this as opposed to when it was actually occurred.)  Instead, you're denied that as they cut almost directly to the funeral.  (I couldn't believe my warden's cousin Shianni didn't show up!)  The only one who speaks is Alistair and that's it.

Anyhow, are there any technical issues involved if I go back to a saved game to try out other possible endings?  Do you get to chose which ending you prefer for the follow-on DLCs?

Also, things I noticed in the epilogue.  Both Shale and Wynne just up and disappear.  In previous playthroughs, they become friends and explore the Deep Roads together.  Any reason for the difference?  Or is it all just random?  Oghren actually got married and had a kid whom he named after my PC.  Nice, but doesn't this conflict with his personal quest in Awakening?

There's no issues. Just delete the last autosave.

You're mostly complaining about oversights and bugs in the end. There's a bit more content for Alistair, Loghain, and Morrigan. It doesn't mean they're better though. If you had a general concept you were going with, I suggest sticking with the spirit of the playthrough. :)

As for Oghren, it doesn't conflict at all. He still names the kid that. They had problems accepting the Awakening import though and you're not the Orlesian Warden there. You'll still play your old Warden.. you just have to assume he's talking to another character. But if you play through all of this and import into DA2, it corrects all of this.

I thought the ultimate sacrafice was touching with my male dwarf.  Maybe you didn't relate to it because of the different gender?  On my first finish I didn't trust Morrigan but then on subsiquent games I always took the dark ritual because the story seem more interesting.

Same here. It was my first choice.. but I've played tons since. I just kind of always settle on it though, canon-wise.. I guess.

If anything, I'd say the City Elf is one of origins that fits well without the sacrifice. At least if you went full out rogue. There's that little story in the beginning with kids that you can tell them about "Tathas", about a rogue hero who disappeared. There's something very Trickster like with the whole origin.. even your mom's dagger is "Fenharel's Fang".

I personally always thought that the redemption ending was more dramatic than the US,since Loghain is sad and happy at the same time and the Warden become the redeemer of people
The US is far less dramatic,at least for me because the warden is not a voiced characterand unlike Loghain a warden doesn't make an interesting and dramatic speech before to strike the killing blow,  as you said aside from the epilogue no one speak about your death.
With Loghain some are sad (Anora) some are happy (Alistair,Wynne),is a bouquet of reactions.
With the US there is also that silly resurrection in DAA....... <_<  not very dramatic and apprently nobody care that you're still alive.....

That's what I did on my CE personally.. people have a prob with that one too though. Why would a City Elf save Loghain of all people? :D I have my reasons.
