I have been hoping for this ever since I saw his reveal in Mass Effect 2, but it hasn't happened. I don't know if all the complaining about female Shepard's armor is the cause, and I honestly don't care about all of the drama that goes on regarding that; I only want to ask if the protagonist can have some nice Thane-esque battle wear(along with a variety of different battle wear)?

I don't really get why so many people put up such a fuss about clothing/armor thet don't like in a game about choices; if you don't like what you see then don't wear it. Anyway, I would really like some armor similar to Thane's...and even Jacob's for the protagonist, and since it has been stated that the protagonist will not be "Shepard 2.0" then there is no reason the armor, battle wear, and clothing can't be spiced up for some of the varieties. Right?

I don't role-play when I play games(I quite like my life); I play them for the characters and story, and so I play male and female characters, but mostly males. It would be a shame to let a group of whiny women(and some men) constantly complaining about what a character wears ruin the variation we get in the game. If need be then perhaps you can limit what the female protagonist wears(for all the women complaining), and give the male protagonist some spicy variety. Please, oh please have mercy, please!(hmmm pretty good pleading lol).

I'm not asking for the female options to be limited, I just figure since it's the women doing most of the complaining about female characters "being over sexualized" then they shouldn't care in the slightest if the male protagonist gets some Thane-esque battle wear or other sexy(ish) type armor.

(*edit* I'm not "insulting" feminists, but I am stating the obvious. The whining, the hate, the threats, the lies...those are things we see from that group(not all, but most) everyday. Again, not being insulting, merely stating what I see day in day out. If you're not like that then it shouldn't bother you; however if it does, forgive me.)

(*2nd edit* For those who may get offended, please go down to comment #6; that should make things clear. If you're still offended after that...then I don't know what to tell you.)

*3rd edit* Seems my free time has run out; my family is home and it's time to spend it with them! :-) If this thread is not locked in the next three days, or have more comments(or insults..either one is fine by me) then I will try to return

and quickly engage in conversation. My post are rare though, so I'm not sure. Anyway, it was a pleasure to converse with you all, and I mean all!

Good day/morning/evening/night folks, and be safe!

You don't get bonus points for insulting the feminists anymore, just in case you were wondering.

In general though if they're not going to go with the over the top silliness factor then I prefer my combat armour looking like it gives the impression that it's actual armour. Thane only gets a pass because he looks badass in that outfit. Jacob gets no such pass.

Or if you're going to be Final Fantasy then it doesn't matter and feel free to go nuts.

What Thane wears is pretty silly. I'd rather they had people wearing armour into combat.

But if they continue to have companions not wearing armour, then it would be reasonable to allow the player similar things.

Bonus points??? What's that about? If that's a thing you'll have to forgive me for not knowing; I spend very little time online because most of it is spent working and being with my family. I don't insult anyone; I call things exactly how I see them. I didn't say all feminists were whiny...but most are, and they prove it everyday. That's not an insult though; everyone can see it.

Final Fantasy? Why does it have to be Final Fantasy because I want armor like Thane? The protagonist is an explorer, then there's the fast the omni-shields exist in the Mass Effect world, and Biotic barriers...so how would wearing something like Thane be silly when there are better form of protection than armor? In fact it would make sense because with lighter clothing, and strong omni-shields/barriers, one could move around MUCH faster and do more damage then wearing armor would allow. And as I stated before, it would be a "choice" for those who want it. Where's the problem?

Saying you don't get bonus points is just my way of saying that it's completely irrelevant and seems largely to exist for the sole purpose of trying to discredit any valid criticism of such armours by attacking the person rather than their actual arguments.

It doesn't have to be Final Fantasy, but the idea behind that comment is that if your aesthetic goals are to have over the top but cool looking outfits then go nuts. Final Fantasy is just the easy example to use because it's so well known and so ridiculously over the top in its design choices.

However, Mass Effect seems to want to be a bit more grounded in realism(even though it doesn't strictly adhere to it) and thus the combat armour should probably at least give the impression that it's actual armour.

I'm not saying Thane should be wearing bulky heavy armour but in general, biotic barrier + armour is better than biotic barrier + clothing. For an assassin, you would use light armour of course to emphasize mobility.

Ah, now I see. I'm not attacking anyone though, or their arguments. I agree women shouldn't be thrown in sexy clothes just for the sake of it and that includes men as well. I was only saying that-at least from my experiences-that the whiners are there to be hateful and make threats. Most of the other women I know (my wife included) either don't really care and choose to wear something else, or they give their criticism in a constructive way. They don't constantly whine and pick fights about it. When I said "whiny" I wasn't talking about all women and men giving their feedback; I really meant the whiners and complainers about ANY woman they see showing skin.

I understand you argument about the armor, but I also feel it realistic to have some battle wear like Thane giving the fact that in the Mass Effect world, fighters can use omni-shields, barriers and the like. Less armor would be a good thing because it would allow for better mobility without a hit to protection.

I prefer a certain amount of realism (realism = what makes sense according to in-universe lore) when it comes to gear.

We have seen some idiotic designs in the past, like characters going into space wearing a breathing mask, a catsuit, and exposed skin.

This mind-boggling stupidity has to stop.

When characters are in a safe area, they can dress in whatever they want. When they are out in the field or in space, they should wear what makes sense.

A "battle-dress" is much less realistic than armor (even light armor) as a choice for heavy combat, therefore I don't want to see it.

Light armor can be just as stylish for an assassin and still make sense.

It would be a hit to protection because kinetic barriers don't last forever, and given the lore behind Mass Effect weapons one of those things hitting an unprotected part of your body would be extremely bad.

Like, you're now missing half your body kind of bad.

I certainly agree with you on the breathing mask in space; that was pretty awful *shakes head* I have to disagree with you about the armor though. If we were going for realism, then even heavy armor would be pointless in a fight with rockets and lasers; only ammo and protection from bullets would be necessary). Omni-shields and biotic barriers add more protection though. Which means wearing battle gear (not armor) would actually make sense. At the end of the day though; I'm merely asking for more options. Those who don't want the armor wouldn't have to wear it.

True, very true, but the laser weapons are also said to cut through metal quite easily, yes? Which means even armor wouldn't give protecting. Honestly, all I'm asking for is more options for those of us who want it. These battle gears already exist for the squad mates, so why not the protagonist as well? No one would be forced to wear them so it wouldn't hurt, right?

Thane is a professional assassin and his gear reflects that.  Are you really asking that a civilian like suit is worn by a combat team member as armour?  Anyway, Thane's sartorial choice is his species "fashion statement" and  I can't see any other race wearing that style... but, that's me.

It would be a nice gesture from Bio if they allowed us to customize out combat gear = colour and style.  However, I'm of the opinion that EA is against user modding.

Thane was okay but I prefer to kick butt in a paisley smoking jacket, not that plain old thing he wore.

I am well aware that certain females complain about sexualisation.

And yes, I'm a female. And personally I don't give two shits about it especially when in real life you see women strolling around in revealing outfits which implies *personal choice*.

My point is, you could have made your request without bringing up the political crap. Instead you added it to your post and yes it most certainly was a whine, otherwise you wouldn't have even brought it up. It was unnecessary. *sighs*

*one more sigh* Madam, madam, madam...yet again you are wrong. I don't care at all about politics, for starters. Aren't you being a bit of a hypocrite? You say you don't care if a women wears revealing clothes because it's her personal choice, yet you will complain about it being in a game as personal choice for players who want to wear it even if you don't have to? My dear...that is indeed hypocritical.

Now once again, I didn't whine; I addressed a fact. It is necessary because many developers are being bullied and threatened by these people to make changes that they want. That is not a whine my dear, simple stating the obvious.

Lol! Um.. Where did I say that I didn't like it being in a game?

Clearly you misunderstood my point, or you are just assuming what you want to assume so it provides you with a comeback. You are failing horribly ;)

My previous post said "I don't give two shits" meaning I don't *care*.

To a degree, I actually agree with you about women being the most vocal when it comes to complaining about over sexualisation.

So let me put this clearly: I'm pointing out that you are complaining about said group of women in your request for more fashion options, when it was unnecessary. I bring this up because too often I see pathetic bickering on both sides of the fence, where people start to complain about other people complaining.. You understand?

Weapons in Mass Effect are projectiles, they're just accelerated to insanely high speeds and impact with huge amounts of force. The armour is made using mass effect fields and isn't just standard metal like we have today.

The whole "it's just an option, you don't have to use it if you don't want to" can be applied to literally every single request for an addition to the game, so I generally don't really go for it as an argument as to why something should be in the game.

Pre-emptive strikes on the internet are only going to start the little war you were claiming to avoid.

Also Shepard has always been painted as someone in armor, it's their style so that would be the simplest motive for BioWare to not let you dress up as Thane. You're jumping to conclusions.

Strangely enough, I've seen at least as many men as women complain about the non-armors and bubble masks of ME2.

So - is your real purpose here to request armor that looks like Thane's or to insult women? You seem to be devoting a lot more energy to the latter.

And there might not be any merit to complains? I get that you want options on what protagonist wears and I don't see problem with that, but do you really need to complain about people who don't like some aspect of the game? I mean most of our opening post is complaining about feminists and how they don't want sexy outfits for characters instead of making your point.

I'm one of those "whiny feminists" and I don't happen to have problem with your request otherwise than your tone. Revealing outfits become only problem when they are made purely for fanservice purposes for female characters and you are unable to change them at all, even more so when they fight agaisnt the character itself. They aren't as big problem for protagonist, they are welcomed choice instead if there is just enough options for player to chose form and you aren't forced to wear something that looks like it's from erotic shop like most of outfits Chinese/Korean MMORPG's look. Of course the outfit still needs to look like it fits in the universe and general art direction of the game, but I bet Bioware can figure sth out if they want.

Or maybe. Depends on the story. Gang busters combat, wear some damn armor. Exploration with occasional skirmishes, wear whatever you want. But given unknown planetary conditions full suits should be common and I'd like one tough enough not to get torn.

I generally prefer male and female characters wear armor that actually looks like armor in Mass Effect in combat, partly because of the gas mask in space issue and partly because I don't like the inconsistency of some characters wearing it and others wearing skintight jumpsuits.

What they wear on the ship outside of combat, can be whatever they want.

Hm..

I'm with you on options. Used mods from Nexus for DA2 armour, myself. But...but don't you find Thane like armour a bit OUTRÉ when compared to the "normal" armours in the game?

I say this because I associate that fashion sense with Thane's species.... which is probably  myopic of me.
