In Mass Effect 3, you had the option to either invite Chakwas back to the Normandy or invite Michel. In a couple of my playthroughs I would choose Michel. Do you think we should be able to choose our own crew in Andromeda?

Yes but with deep consequences not for the main story but for the personal relationship with the main character or the squad mates

It's a nice idea, but it would require a ton of VA work to have to record all those lines for characters you might not even use.

I still love DA:I for the reason I could tell Sera to get out of my face with her nonsense. A must in all my games.

Fanboys much? Really I just provided an example on why I'd like this option to be there. Would you like to be stuck with someone you don't like? I certainly don't

Sure, it requires a ton of VA work that most players won't even hear, but still, I'd like to have a choice, because it's something that greatly increases replay value.

Doesn't have to be every squadmate or crew mate. It could be like in ME3, either you pick Chakwas or Michel. But in Andromeda it could be Pilot A or Pilot B, Yeoman A or Yeoman B.

that would be interesting, maybe one sqadmate/crewmate offers certain resources/expertise while the other one provides alternate resources. It would make it interesting.

It would be nice if we had the option to promote people to certain positions. For example: We could choose who to became the pilot, the head engineer, head doctor, etc. This would change the outcome of various situations, change how the crew interacts with us depending on who we choose, and so on.

I'd prefer not to, mostly because I want the squad (and hopefully other crew members) to have a significant role in areas of the plot (e.g. Tali and Rannoch, Kaidan/Ash and Virmire). I also want them to interact with each other on the ship, like in ME3 and DA2. The chances of those things go down if everyone's really swappable. Chakwas and Michel's role on the Normandy was pretty much non-existent. I think Chakwas has a conversation with Shep and a few ambient banters with one other crew member.

I don't see how you would handle that, unless the way it was handled was basically like so:
Player: "I dislike you. Go away."
NPC: "Ok, I'll go back to the ship/base."
Seriously, what are you going to do, purposely shove the annoying NPC out of the airlock?!

It was nice flavor, but if it means that the characters have less dialogue or interactions I am not sure if it would be something I would be for. Imagine if the amount of times you could have a conversation with Traynor or Joker was the same as Chakwas or Michel, to me they were drastically underused like the all the squad members aside from Liara who was overused. Now if it doesn't feel like the interchangeable characters have less interactions then the other members I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

If they can make each choice equal to everybody else in terms of writing quality then sure. But if multiple choices results in watered-down interaction then no. I'd rather have an interesting character that I don't like over a bland character that I do like.

I didn't know that you can invite Michel on the ship o_O. Well, this is new to me.
But choosing companions.. the problem is that these companions would need to have similar role or small roles, since otherwise they would drain lot of writing resources.

If it was an Ark and they were dealing with over-population, spacing non-productive/criminal crew members would be a good option. A paragon option would be to hack his email/communications and try to uncover criminal actions and when they are discovered allowing the crew mate to get a small ship with 1 month's rations and leave the ship. This crew mate could then become an antagonist. Or a renegade option would be to try to force the crew mate you don't like to commit a crime or forge evidence that would condemn them to death.

Your reputation has to be high enough to get the paragon or renegade dialogue to convince her to join Shepard on the Normandy.

Or have that crew mate convince another crewmember or squadmate or both to join him/her to get revenge on the main character.
