I am a huge Dragon Age fan. There is one thing problem that I have is that no one has explained Sandal. Sandal is Bodahns boy. He was on the first two games. I was wondering what is up with Sandal. He acts all slow, but he can do some amazing things with or without enchantments. Does someone have a theory about Sandal.

My personal theory is that Sandal was a slightly eccentric character written for DA:O that the devs never really thought they'd get so much mileage from. His role in the first game is primarily utilitarian - he's there to craft runes to your gear. 'Savants' often have obsessive passions in which they are experts, and his was rune-smithing. Then they wanted to give the player a last-minute chance to buy and reassess their supplies for the Archdemon fight, and rather than contrive a probably-unconvincing reason to have a vendor in Fort Drakon during a pitched battle, they just ran with it and had Sandal there surrounded by slaughtered Darkspawn and unable to explain how.
Then he got really popular. And everything since has just been the devs running with what they'd made - a probably autistic, gifted and possibly magically attuned boy. I don't think they ever intended to explain him. But they may still decide they want to explore him further as a character. But I think they'd be post-hoc explanaions rather anything that was planned from the beginning.

I agree with that. There is something very special about Sandal, The things he does only he can.

I'm not so sure about the unintentional importance idea. Right back in DAO it seemed odd how we came upon him in a room full of dead darkspawn and his explanation was simply "Enchantment." So even then he was more than simply an odd but gifted crafter of enchanted items. Then we had DA2 and not only did he turn the ogre into petrified crystal with "not enchantment" but later we find him in the centre of the Gallows apparently untouched by the chaos around him and again dead things in his wake. Also do not forget that he appears unaffected by red lyrium and was able to alter the piece that Bartrand had kept into a harmless rune. He seemed to suffer from dreams about Flemeth and we know that Mythal went into the Deep Roads and did something there.
WoT2 does expand on his story and how Bodahn originally found him. It was in a very deep cavern, with pictures of elves, dwarves, dragons and creatures Bodahn didn't even recognise, clearly very ancient. When he turned from he picture, there was Sandal. After the Descent I'd guess that he was connected in some way to the Titans, may be even an original child of the stone, or avatar of them in some way. I'm sure he will be back and that he was always intended to play a significant role in how things eventually turn out.

Lets not forget that he froze a alpha ogre and didn't use an enchantment. all he said when hawke asked him about the ogre was "Not Enchantment"

Well the end of Descent adds a new possibility for explaining what he is without the ridiculous "god" theories and it would make sense if somebody had a strong enough stone sense since birth coupled with lyrium exposure that the lyrium/titan song could deafen all else especially when this occurred early in life.

Perhaps the Shabratol are not supposed to have children, one gender or the other being sterile but, somehow one of the fertile gender had a child with a normal dwarf and, Sandal is that child. The effects of drinking lyrium like the Shabratol do, and it not killing and in fact enhancing them is probable genetic. That DNA with a normal Dwarf, or even a grey warden could produce Sandal.

Not really sure the Sha-Brytal can have children due to the whole metal plates fused to skin and sealed being part of their thing and since science isn't likely enough to do non-intercourse reproduction and plate armor would seem to be a bit in the way.

I doubt th armor is fused to THOSE areas and, if it is well, they still have to eliminate bodily wastes somehow...

Seem to recall it was suggested somewhere that he might have been the child of a Warden and one of the Aeducan clan. Not sure where I saw that but it could have been in Legacy. Anyway if his origins weren't actually in the Deep Roads then I'm pretty sure that if he was abandoned there (as dwarf families are inclined to do if the child is the wrong sex and therefore the wrong caste) somehow he was "adopted" by a Titan. WoT2 also makes a big deal out of his appearance "hair pale like marble, and clear blue eyes" as something that is not usually found among dwarves. The blue eyes make me think of lyrium. To be honest I'd be really disappointed if this was just another of their "red herrings" and he didn't turn out to be someone significant.

They aren't born with the armour; they get fitted into it at some point in their lives. Not really sure the Sha-Brytal can have children due to the whole metal plates fused to skin and sealed being part of their thing and since science isn't likely enough to do non-intercourse reproduction and plate armor would seem to be a bit in the way.
Perhaps the Sha-Brytol we fought were like a garrison stationed inside the Titan to guard it, and somewhere in the earth there's a thaig filled with non-armoured Sha-Brytol citizens who fashion their armour and weapons and breed the replacements for the ones who fall in battle. Valta seemed to think there was such a thaig somewhere.
If Sandal was thought to be "defective", then maybe the Sha-Brytol - who only seem to care about guarding the Titans - cast him out. Or maybe they were afraid of his strange abilities. Who knows?

Google : Lady Insanity Titans . Long Story short, she believes that ppl like Sandal, Mythal or Lelliana (if she died) are agents of the Titans.

Theoretically not enchantment could either be this Dwarf version of magic earth shakers and Valta used, or it could merely be the opposite of enchantment where instead of adding properties to an item Sandal's not enchantment removed properties.

I just had this horrible thought. When did Sandal start working on his special project? Was it before or after we destroyed Solas' orb? Because it occurred to me that what he might be working on is another orb for Solas. Then all Solas has to do is find a source of power that will charge it up quickly.

Why would he do so?
Sure, never say never with Bioware
But it seems a bit far stretched to me. I do however agree that he must be an ancient Child of the Stone from the time when Mythal "took the sun away from the dwarves" and that he is bound to appear once again.
I do not know if this was planned at the beginning though. Imho in DA they just made it as a "funny" character and as others said they wanted a vendor to be before the Archdemon fight so they slapped him there without explanation.
But then they started realizing people were getting interested about him and decided to add more depth to his character ![]()
No idea.. we shall see ![]()

Sandal is a dwarf with cognitive problems that was found lost in the Deep Roads and can use magic. After you play Descent, you realise this is because his mind is linked to a Titan.
