if you're stuck on one console then you don't have a lot of options for RPGs to play. That's just something you have to accept.
We need more triple A rpgs per year. Mass effect / Dragon Age not enough

So, their looks are customizable, but *have* to be stylish?

Now this is a bigger problem for me since my favorite type of game is the rpg. But looking at this year, the only triple a rpg on the pc was the witcher 3, and I can't get into that series because of Geralts fugly face.
So I basically had NOTHING this year, NOTHING, I HAD NOTHING !!!!!!
https://www.youtube....KBWtoH93Q#t=22s
... Anyway.
Biowares rpgs seem to be on a 3 year cadence per installment, maybe 4 if it's a bigger retooling. But they are only juggling two right now. There is talk about them adding a third, which is great, that would be one big rpg release per year on a staggered 3 year cadence for each property. But 1 per year is NOT enough.
We need more titles, more worlds, and SOMEONE else needs to step up. I do have high hopes for cd project reds new work on cyberpunk 2077, so that could be another added, same with more frequent deus ex titles. But still, we NEED MORE RPGS !
Is there any world you'd like to see explored, non mmo style, that could turn into a big rpg franchise to be mined for years to come?
ps, I want bigger releases in addition to the smaller releases like divinity original sin and pillars of eternity.
So you're a quantity over quality kind of guy. Gotcha.

Actually yes. Are you a developer? Do you know the potential of that studio?
I know enough of their history to understand the enormous risk they took in resurrecting Deus Ex. And it was a success. They're one of the few AAA devs to talk candidly about criticism of their game, and how to make a sequel better.

I don't count "light RPG elements." Sure those games are some of the best selling but two of them are kind of the same game. Fallout and Skyrim, though I like them both. I will say that there's a lot on the Nintendo DS. That seems to be THE "console" for RPGs these days.I don't really see Duses Ex so much as an rpg like that but it makes sense.
I'd say that's quite the opposite. A lot of rpg's (or pseudo-rpgs) have been selling well and have had high budgets over the last 10 years. Would you believe me if I said both Fallout 4, Wiedźmin 3 and Skyrim are all among the most expensive video games ever created and two of those are also in the best selling too? Also, a lot of other genre's have adopted these light rpg elements to them.
Also, if ME is considered an RPG, then Deus Ex should be as well.

Not a RPG at all, but you might want to give Dishonored a try.

I completely disagree. The new IP will be refreshing and 1 game per year is perfect setting. Otherwise, BW would have to be much more bigger. And I don't like this idea of so many new people and not enough time to "convert" them into Biostuff. Also, I wouldn't catch all those games. It's already 1 year since DAI and I'm still not remotely finished with all my playtroughs. Now think about other games like Deus Ex, Ark Survival, Telltale series... I have a job for God's sake!

OP
You may want to look into other games.
Don't get me wrong, RPGs are my favorite as well but I also highly enjoy other genres. From King's Quest as an Action/Puzzle game to the Japanese made games of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy and the Fire Emblem games are excellent strategy games. If you have a PC or Xbox One you may want to invest some time in Smite: Battle of the Gods, as that is an addicting MOBA.
Two classic Legend of Zelda games are on the 3DS, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.
If you have a PS2 or 3, you may be able to play Kingdom Hearts which is a charming and fun game mixing Final Fantasy and Disney. It's quite interesting traveling with Donald Duck and Goofy as companions while fighting Cloud from Final Fantasy VII in a tournament put on by Philoctetes from Hercules.

although it is a good question - with comic book proprieties being so hot today, why haven't we seen games based on superheroes? Marvel and DC based games would be hard given a license, but there's room to get creative.

Racing, Adventure, Platformer I can't think that many.. Especially triple A things as opposed to more independent low graphics type thing. Even FPS how many big name titles are there per year?

Are there a lot of genres where there are 2 or more big name titles per year? RPG gets Witcher and Fallout.

Depends on the year but I doubt you will see a year where less than 2 big budget or big name FPS or TPS games are released in the year, I mean there will always be a COD game released every year and usually a battlefield every second, this year I don't think we had as many but there was still also had Evolve, Battlefront and Halo 5 off the top of my head.
On a slightly unrelated note wasnt there supposed to be a new hitman this year? Or did that get delayed?

We need more than 3. Square Enix needs to branch out on the pc and release non mmo stuff there that is a new rpg franchise.
I'm not a console person so anything limited to those locations is a no go for me. I know, a self imposed constraint, but one I'm sticking to for the moment.
ATM though that's all we got though if you have the resources to start one up then go ahead but otherwise we'll just have to take what we can get in the meantime. As RPG's do take a while to produce because of their size.

I would as far as to say that Bioshock and Far Cry 3 are RPG's aswell. They do have choices and customizing of gear etc. But i use the term more loosly than others.

Per year, like annualized? No thanks. I can't remember that last annualized game I played and enjoyed.
Yeah other than the sports franchises there's not much I like about the yearly ones either that much.As I've only tended to byu the Fifa's and F1 games lately I do have some of the COD's and Battlefield games although I must confess I don't really play them much. Although most of my time this year has been spent in Bioware's DA series.
I think part of the problem is the recent push for huge open-world games, and very large games in general.
I'd be perfectly happy with a smaller, shorter RPG (maybe around 20-25 hours or so) as long as it was high quality and had good replayability. But unfortunately open-world seems to be the 'in' thing at the moment, so all games (and RPG's in particular) have to be massive.
yeah which has lead to a lot of these fetchquest style complaints. Personally I'm nbot that worried by it. If it's a good game and done in a high quality then chances are I'll end up playing it more than once.I kinow I can say that about both ME and DA's series. Bioware do great work with their games

yeah I agree I'd classify both of those moer as shooters personally but I understand what your saying as some might argue the same about the new Tomb raider games as well given you do upgrade and customise Lara's gear as you progress in both the 2013 game and the Rise of the TR as well. Not playe3d the new one yet as I'm waiting for the PC release but based on what I've seen I think I'll like it.

I am telling you, BioWare should be making a super-hero squad-based RPG. Just do what Marvel Ultimate Alliance did with some tweaks...

So, their looks are customizable, but *have* to be stylish?
More that it would just be very difficult to make the costume look unstylish, because all of the variations are so beautifully designed. The player can still pick ugly color clashes if they like. Or even, heaven forbid, neon.
------
The thing is, there's a trend of making certain designs, hair and clothing mostly, exclusive to specific NPCs in RP games. I'm not opposed to that in itself at all, but a lot of the specific examples (Miranda's hair in ME, Serana's hair in Skyrim) happen to be arguably prettier than anything the PC has access to. My perfect game would be an rpg with attention to the protagonists customizable style.
Then put the aesthetics of of Castlevania: LOS together with the aesthetics, combat, gameplay, and themes of the Arkham series, and then it would be perfect.
I know that was a lot more than you asked, but by the time I realized that I was getting very caried away, I'd already typed it all out.
