Ars Technica interviewed Bio Montreal Studio Manager Aaryn Flynn and Creative Director Mac Walters a while back and reading the article, this popped up:

"...Walters cited the face-scanning tech demonstrated on stage today in EA’s latest NBA franchise title as a great Frostbite feature that they might potentially have access to if they needed it...."

So, you're protagonist may have your face or you're boyfriend's or girlfriend's. It will probably be tweaked from the CC since hair styles are very primitive with Bio games. If they do implement it, I'm hoping they will complete this feature with the ability to carry you're character's face on a subsequent playthrough. Also, another potentially  good feature it to be able to scan faces for other human squad members. Who knows? maybe you're team will have the faces of singers, movie stars or band members.

Now this feature will "break" the Mass Effect theme that Bio wants to show the world but on a second or third+ playthroughs? Why not?

What do you all think? A great feature? Poor one? Or what would you do with it?

Main problem with this tech is that people abuse it to take pictures of there genitals, some games have actually removed this feature due to abuse like that.

Hu?

That can be done already with a text/photo scanner device.

Why would a ME gamer replace the CC face with something other than another face and then play the game? That I don't get.

The characters I create look nothing like me. I often give them a personality similar to mine, but I don't really self-insert. The idea of me being a warrior of any kind is so ridiculous that it would take me out of the experience completely.

Besides, the results would probably not be all that flattering. I tried the face recognition of the Mii Maker once... it recognized me as male unless I smiled. Still rebuilding my self-esteem.

I'd rather they spent their budget on good writing.

I was referring to the tech in general.  Some developers opted out of using it for CC due to people taking pictures of private areas even in single player games.

There is also the fact that people could also scan pics of movies stars and other celebraties, who might sue if people started using their likeness without their consent. The last thing EA needs is a lawsuit against them brought by a high-profile movie star that saw their likeness in a game that they're not a part of because some players used a photo of them and then streamed it through sites like Twitch and Youtube, get mad and sue the player, EA, BioWare, and the streaming sites.

There are some actors and/or their estates that are very protective of the use of their likeness.

I don't know why you'd actually have to ask why people would do this unless you're a robot or a space alien.

I gotta say though, "Ugly Shepard" PTs might be a little more interesting.

Do you think they'll put in that much effort for a feature people never asked for and that might not work at all or even be used much on PC?

I'd be interested in seeing how good a likeness could be created as the tech advances. Borrowing friends and loved ones faces might be odd though.

If that were a risk then every piece of drawing software and image sharing site would be locked down with lawsuits.

I would love to scan my face in the game. Or even upload a photo to a website and have it digitized. EA did it for NBA Live 16 *shudders* (BTW if you're into basketball buy NBA 2k16 and play with me on XBL, gamertag in profile).

It's not a matter of needing it, but it would make an awesome OPTIONAL CC tool. It increases the fun factor. And it would be plain stupid of Bioware not to implement it if they CAN get it.

Oh please, WWE2K16 has the same feature and noone's complaining. I've seen a Rick Grimes custom wrestler. It was hilarious.

I vote "meh." I've got no use for the feature, but if the code's just lying around it'd be fairly cheap to implement.

Absolutely not. If they get into this and it works they'll just start skimping on the actual character creation, which is considered one of the major attractions of modern RPGs. And if it doesn't work then it's just a waste of budget and development time. What's so damn important about giving a fictional character your own face?

Inquisition's character creator was already so close to perfectly flexible, barring all the ridiculous bugs, that you could make nearly any face with a bit of patience. I once made the perfect image of Peter Postlethwaite in just under an hour. If it's not broken almost fixed already, don't fix it.

Well, I'm not going to buy a webcam just for creating a character.

I don't know if I'd use it, but if it worked in the game in way that looked good I think it would help people who like to do self-inserts or model their characters after celebrities.

Perhaps I was unclear. The feature is not available on the first playthrough but on subsequent ones.

As long as it was just an addition to the character creator, I could see myself using it.

I'm not narcissistic enough for a feature like this. Haven't really seen it implemented well in the past either. To answer your question, I just don't think it's a great feature overall and can live without it.

This reminds me of Lindsay Lohan lawsuit against Rockstar and take-two interactive. celebrities are absurd! best stay away from them.
