Anybody out there still use Tutu like I do?  I hope so.  I prefer Tutu over BGEE any day because of the options it provides from a mod standpoint.  So anyway, here's what I'm facing.  Maybe you can help me think of something I'm missing.

I just completed an 18 or so month run through BG, TotSC, SoA and ToB.  Now I'm gearing up to start over in BG/TotSC w/a new 1st level PC.

As always, I've wiped my installations completely so that I can start over fresh w/new mods etc.

This time, however, I can't get Tutu to recognize my BG2 installation.  Some specifics.

1)  I've done a FULL installation of both BG/TotSC and BG2/SoA/ToB.

2)  They are both installed in C:\Black Isle (where I always place them)

3)  My Tutu folder is in the same C:\Black Isle folder (also where I always place it)

I've loaded and reloaded everything four or five times now, checking and double checking my installation folders, ensuring I'm installing EVERYTHING, etc. but I continue to get the same result whether I use my saved Tutu download or go the Pocket Plane site (or other) and get a fresh Tutu installation.

Anyone see anything I might be doing wrong or have any ideas that might help?

I'm not in a hurry b/c I'm studying some new PC ideas for rollplaying purposes before I begin but I wanted to 'play around w/some mods, test a few things, etc.

Thanks folks, so fun to be a part of this great forum.  CKT

I hope you did install BG1 and BG2 into seperate folders (i.e.  C:\Black Isle\BG1 and C:\Black Isle\BG2). I haven't really used Tutu much - you get much more (imo, at least) using BGTrilogy. That way, you don't have to bother with exporting/custom kits/anything.

All you have gets rolled into a single game.

Have you also got the core package downloaded?

Yeah, I have a BGI and BGII folder so they are in separate folders.  Got that part right.  I've never used the Trilogy...is that the same as Big World or whatever that I've read others discuss?

Yes.  As you can see my folder is nearly identical.  I tried putting in the ToB Patch b/c I couldn't remember if it came before or after the Tutu installation.

The second slide is an illustration of the error message I'm getting.

No. Trilogy only "merges" BG1 and BG2 into a single game  - afaik Grond0 uses it as well. You don't need to install a single mod over it. It's basically Tutu + BG2 in a single folder. And any mods, be it kits/AI/NPCs work from Candlekeep to Mellisan.

Cool.  Where is the information for that?  I might try that.  Like I said, I have a little time to kill.

@Aasim, Sorry but my understanding was trilogy requires the BG2 Fixpack patch?

You can have Fixpack in a tutu run but it's optional... of course that may not be an issue here.

@Charlestonian Knight Templar, what copy of bg2 are you using?... the gog version does not need any ToB (or other) Patch and should be compleat but you have to run bg2 at least once after install the set up certain folder options so make a quick character and run the cut sceen until the autosave kicks in.

I don't think so, no.

For some reason, linking here doesn't work.... Spellhold Studios is the forum hosting it. Or just Google BGTrilogy.

One possibility I noticed is that your stated BG1 folder has an apostrophe, but your BG2 folder does not.  It might be worth checking if the actual folder does have an apostrophe - if so then the installation programme obviously won't be able to find it.

Re BGT as Aasim said you should be able to find it at Spellhold Studios.  I prefer it to Tutu as you can then play the whole game:

- without importing

- using a consistent set of mods

- with NPC changes / deaths affecting the position in BG2

To answer your question, CKT, I do use EasyTutu myself sometimes (well actually most times) for BG 1 no-reload runs.

So, I'm trying to install Baldur's Gate Trilogy to try that instead of Tutu.  I keep getting this error.  Any thoughts on what to do?  CKT

It might be a mod conflict.  There shouldn't be many mods used prior to BGT - can you post your Weidu log?

BGT is unable to find the karoug.cre file. Have you checked your Override directory? If Karoug.CRE is not there, your installation is either broken or not fully patched.

Thanks for the insight folks.  Flamedance....long time, know hear.

I haven't added any mods whatsoever.  I've only loaded BGI and BGII, full load, for both.  Nothing else.

However, I did check the Override directory, and sure enough there is no Karoug.CRE there so that must be it.

Still, what patches are you referring to?  Like I said above, I've fully installed both BGI/TotSC and SoA/ToB.  I think I added the ToB Patch when I was trying to get Tutu to install but that's it.

Also, something I was wondering.  If I install BGT, will I be able to use Hard Times Mod?  CKT

If your BG1/ToSC is not from GoG you need to patch it as well with Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast ™ Release Version 1.3.5512 (UK or US depending on your version).

Yes, you will.

Like Serg said, you also need to patch ToSC. Patching ToB isn't enough. Personally, i highly recommend buying the GoG version. It comes fully patched.

As the others say vanilla BG1 / TotSC needs to be patched with 5512.  BG2/ToB should also be patched with 26498 - I imagine that's the version you've already used, but you might just want to check that.

If you're intending to use the Fixpack, that should be installed prior to BGT.  ToBEX and Ascension are other mods that should go first if you want them.  I think the following site is pretty good for telling you the order mods should be installed in:

With reference to that link, do you know what the letters at the side refer to?

I think that R stands for recommended and that E is for Expert, but what do S and T stand for?

Knowing this might help people choose the mods with more understanding.

Sadly the links to the G3 mods don't take you to their respective download pages. :(

Has anyone else noticed that this Tutu Help Thread has turned into a BGT Help Thread. :D

@Grim

The letters refer to the old Big World Setup categories

R=Recommended. Small megamod.

S=Standard. Large Megamod without tactical challenges

T=Tactics. Standard version with tactical challenges added (SCS, Tactics, Revised Battles, Hard Times, Planar Sphere Mod, Vecna, etc).

E=Expert. Everything, including incompatible mods and mods that are currently bugged. Some of these are in fact harmless, but others will virtually guarantee regular CDT's. For adventurous people, but definitely not recommended for the average user.

That is most helpful.

Thanks.

It would have been helpful if that information was on the web page.
