I've beat the game once with my Maeloda, but I'm 1/2 way in another one since I wasn't the happiest the first time around, buttt I'm going to get all DLC sometime (along with a hardware upgrade) and play fresh AGAIN and FINALLY leave it be.
Maeloda Trevelyan/Human - Male - Mage - Rift Mage
Romancing Iron Bull all the way. All. The. Way.
Completionist.
Happy in his Circle and not with being a noble, he does accept that he gained certain talents from his family experiences, and that the Circles, in some form or aspect, have a place in Thedas. Largely diplomatic and grounded in his humanity, he uses the Inquisition for positive means, though temporary ends. Not exactly a 'natural leader' but able enough to come into the position as time passes.
He is open to concepts of Andraste and the Maker, but does not encourage the near-messianic level of belief being leveled towards him.
Encouraged by his knowledge base, happy identity as a mage, and recent events, he studies to be a Rift Mage, and in this, Solas and Maeloda become close friends and in another life, would have traveled the Fade together.
Closest companions for party selection are: Any Warrior (most often Iron Bull once romanced though), Cole (rarely using Sera or Varric after obtaining him), and Solas (Dorian as backup, open to Vivienne).
Sided with mages due to just more of the trend of the narrative, but also because while Maeloda is against this level of rebellion and destruction, he will never stop feeling kinship with mages and he will always want a good result with him that is more than just containment. But containment in itself is welcome, and he decides to conscript the mages, albeit temporarily, instead of allying.
Briala and Celine make up and rule together. While not certain this is the best result, Maeloda played to his strengths (peaceful diplomacy) and an intent on keeping Orlais running while he and his Inquisition simply get the political support to continue their fight. He does not love the Game, but understands it as the reality he is to navigate.
Did not keep the Wardens. They've messed up too bad and they're too much of a liability. Is NOT 'anti-Warden', but does think that southern Thedas needs a breather from Warden presence and interference and that they don't have the numbers now to be much of a help anyway. Stroud survived (Alistair is king with Anora, Loghain is killed at Landsmeet.)
Hawke was sacrificed. Meta-wise this was due to Flemeth's DA2 words, but in-game it was because Maeloda wanted the Wardens with a good representative (regardless of them being cast out) and while he didn't dislike Hawke, he didn't see any special reason to keep him.
Drank from the Well. Didn't trust Morrigan, and does have the side of him that is tempted not necessarily by 'power', but definitely by knowledge and its potential positive applications to Thedas.
Leliana became Divine, I think?... I dunno what will happen the next time.
Have not done DLC, but I'm leaning on Disbanding the Inquisition and trying to Redeem Solas.
Maelina Cadash/Dwarf - Female - Warrior - (Will be) Champion or Templar
Romancing Blackwall or Sera. Dunno yet.
Nightmare run after I get the Golden Nug from Maeloda
.
Only 1/4 through the game with her, but the gist is that she'll be resentful of even being there, but Haven being attacked will be the big catalyst for her stepping up in a big way and trying to contain this disaster. Both Templar and Champion 'tones' would fit this. She wants a regular life but she's not going to get it, so she may as well, eventually, decide to be the best she can be. She's not especially criminalistic, but she is a commoner and she does often sympathize with Varric's way of things. Eventually she embraces the magic of her life and her choices will reflect that, but she will never become one with it. Will be happy when the Mark leaves her, and she has a chance to be normal again, regardless of her scars. She'll always have a hard edge, but it softens whenever she sees what's at stake.
(Planned) ??? Lavellan/Elf - Female - Rogue - (Will be) Tempest
Total Solasmance, frankly. While Maeloda's story involved Solas a lot, this Inquisitor will involve Solas in EVERYTHING, including putting DLCs before the ending. She'll be enraptured by tales of Elvenhan.
Story run, difficulty and even completionism won't factor much in.
(Planned) ??? Valo-Kas/Qunari - Male - Warrior - (Will be) Champion or Reaver
Will be my attempt at coming close to sympathizing with the Qun and seeing if I can stand that. He may be Vashoth, but I'll try to have him keep an open mind. Romance will be one of: Cassandra or Dorian. I don't consider Josephine's romance to be fitting for him.
Trials run. Will try to gather everything I missed from that.
The least empathetic of the 4 Inquisitors. He won't be as hesitant as Maelina, nor as 'commoner', but he also won't be as able to feel the pain of others. In fact, the Inquisition is more of a way to power for him than for the others. It is most clearly a military force for him, and personally, he'll see it as his way of ensuring that others never threaten him again (in headcanon, he was greatly persecuted). While the Qun will always be alien to him, he understands its value on enforcing will on the world. I will intentionally have him be the least friendly to Solas, up to cutting him off when he's getting long winded. The least inquisitive Inquisitor.
NOTE: If I make a Qunari after this, it'll be a female Rogue (Artifacer or Assassin) or Mage (Knight Enchanter or Necromancer), and much less of this abrasive personality. But I want to try it out first.
The mix of Male and Female is so I have 4 playthroughs with different voices, and Human/Elf IMO works better with 'British' and Dwarf/Qunari works better with 'American'.
If I get super into things, like SUPER into things, I can see myself making 4+ more playthroughs to cover other gender+race+class combinations. But this will be over the course of several years as I wait for DA4/DA5 and/or refresh myself on older DA info. For now, its only 3-4 characters tops. Any ones after that will focus on story outcomes.
