As for the original topic, I get the feeling that at least part of the request stems from a desire to make the Grey Wardens relevant again. It's understandable. Many of us got this idealized impression of them in DAO when we played as one, and then they were almost completely absent from DA2, and what we did hear about them was a lot more morally ambiguous than many of us wanted to hear. Then DAI rolled around and that moral ambiguity gave way to outright pragmatism. We saw how they will do anything to stop Blights, full stop. It left some folks feeling disillusioned and maybe even betrayed. Blackwall didn't help there, I'm afraid.
Why would you see them as heroes in DA:O? Literally every single piece of content in them in the game is the opposite. Duncan straight up executes someone for refusing to participate in a ritual he was clearly and obviously unsuited for from the outset. Only a moron would spend more than 5 minutes talking to Jory and not figure this person could not handle being a GW.
Then we've got all the coercive stuff Duncan can do e.g., forcing the HN to leave their family to due and forcibly conscripting you, because the blight >>> everything you've ever valued in your life. We've got Riordan being all for excusing Loghain, and Warden's Keep shows the extent to which the Wardens were prepared and would condone e.g. demonology and blood magic for the purpose of fighting the blight.
The only persons who see the Wardens as heroes are Alistair and Cailain, and they're both obviously wrong.
