When we first meet Sera, she briefly lists off locations of where "Friends" can be found and there was one that really stood out for me when she mentions three brothers in Starkhaven.

So that has me questioning if it's possible that she is talking about Sebastian and his two brothers before his family was assassinated?

No, Sebastian is not a Friend.

Charade from Kirkwall is, though.

I find it more likely that this was a reference to some other NPC family, or a personal developer reference, or something along those lines. Sebastian is a noble, and so were his brothers. While he was off being a bad boy in his youth, they were being groomed for leadership. I don't think they would ever be considered Friends.

True enough and Sera has a phobia against most nobility, understandable to a point. It would have made for an interesting twist and Sebastian's name was the only one I knew from Starkhaven, that's what made me wonder when she said "were" instead of "are".

I didn't know that the one in Kirkwall was actually Charade. That's really kewl to know.  I heard there was a way to contact her, but I haven't quite figured that one out yet.

She's actually based in Tantervale (spits).

Who'd want to be a Red Jenny in Kirkwall anyway?

Sooo...am I right to assume that Tantervale is not a very nice place?

It's a very dour, serious place with a low tolerance for crime. It's said that what nets a child thief a slap on the wrist in Orlais warrants a year in prison at Tantervale.

Ouch.

Seems to me that if any place was in need of a "Friend" or two, that would definitely be it. Kind of reminds me of Bowerstone when during Logan's brief reign.
Probably about time I started investing extra time in reading the Lore a bit more thoroughly that I have been.

It's war table stuff. I believe you have to complete one of the war table missions (A Trouble of Red Jennies?) with Leliana to go the Tantervale route. If you complete with Josephine you end up with a different mission. The DA wiki will know for sure.

From what I remember (since I put a lot of effort into brownie points for Sera's romance) if you finish it with Josephine it ends the missions until you get Sera's romance. (dunno how it works if you don't romance her though)

Oh yeah, I don't remember the timing of things. I just know that the advisor determines which future missions you get. Having not played the prior DA games I did not know Charade was a returning character, so I had no special reason for choosing one route over the other.

You should give DA2 a crack some time. Loads of fun (despite the hatred a lot of fans have for it)
It's got this gory b grade movie feel to it.

The woman in Hanged Man who rewards you when you clear out the gangs is Red Jenny.

Ah okay. Yeah, that's who I originally thought that was who Sera was talking about.

What about the other woman in the Hanged man, the one who sends you to the Docks at night to eavesdrop on and then kill those ship captains? Who was she, if not a Red Jenny?

A spy from Amaranthine.

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you and apologies for teetering off into DA: 2 a bit in the Inquisition forums.

I was pleased when I saw the option of choosing Charade as I had liked her as a character in DA2 and had rather hoped for her as a companion.   I wonder how the other Jennies felt when she told them she was related to nobility, the Champion of Kirkwall no less?   I have high hopes for the Freemarches with my play through with my Dalish elf.    My clan is on the ruling council in Wycombe, Varric and Hawke are controlling Kirkwall (where I have an estate), I am on good terms with the Red Jennies with Charade giving the connection in Tantervale, and my Hawke was on good terms with Sebastian in Starkhaven (even if Varric ignores him).
