I'm about to start on either one of these quests, and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me (without any major spoilers) if it matters which order you do them in? Will things change if you do one quest before the other?

And is there an approximate level you should be before doing these quests?

Thanks in advance.

Some dialogue in Wicked Eyes will change depending on whether you do Here Lies the Abyss first - some guests will mention hearing about the siege of Adamant - but there's no major changes.

The enemies in both quests will be between Level 12-15, so I would do them when you're in that range.

You can see the level requirement when you click on the war table mission. But to answer, no it doesn't matter. It's more of a roleplay choice than anything else.

I prefer to leave the winter palace to last possible moment because soon as it done you get the "Choose the next divine" plot line and mistake there will lock you on certain choice.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the input. I guess I'll do the Wardens quest first then.

Depending on your world-state, you can overhear a conversation in the garden if you've done Wicked Hearts and finished the quest in Crestwood but haven't yet gone to Adamant.  Nothing game changing though.

Conversely, that's why I do it first. I'm a big fan of just playing your character and seeing what happens.

Like you, I do Adamant then the Winter Palace. To me it makes sense to do it in that order.

Also "Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts" quest annoys me to no end. So I put off doing it until I no longer can.

Does the romance content trigger if you do Wicked Eyes before Abyss? I've only ever done Abyss first, but I'm planning on doing the opposite this time.

As long as the romance is locked it, you should be good.

I prefer Abyss first because the Warden/Hawke plot seems more pressing and immediate, especially when you meet Erimond for the first time and find out what he's up to.

Yes, as long as you're locked like lynroy said.  I've started doing WEWH before Adamant on my last few playthroughs and I still get the option to dance with my LI. ;)

They mention the events of Here Lies the Abyss if you do that first. But no major plot differences.

I prefer doing Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts first because it makes more sense in a storyline context.

1. In order to get a massive army to Adamant, it seems logical that you would need safe passage through Orlais first. So solving the issue with the nobles is the best course of action.

2. Saving Celene seems to be the most important thing to do. The ball logically has a set date (in-universe, not in-game). So making sure you have influence to get to that ball on time makes the game seem better.

3. Influence. If you do Adamant first, then I see no reason why the Orlesian court would not automatically favor you. It makes more sense to go in with the minimum amount of accomplishments in order to justify the suspicion and condescending attitude of the court.

4. If you stop the demon army first, then who rules Orlais is of no consequence. It may as well be Abernache in this case. So securing Orlais' stability first is more sensible in making WEWH matter to the plot.

5. It would logically take Hawke some time to get to Skyhold, then Crestwood, then Skyhold, then the Western Approach. This is all time you don't have to waste in getting to the ball. Plus, this means the Warden plot can wait.

6. It's the surest lead to Corypheus' next plot. Hawke's plot is just supposition. The plot against Celene is a sure bet, and the prior quest in Redcliffe or Therinfall leads directly into WEWH.

No, the order doesn't really matter. I think it just comes down to personal preference, although for me I usually do Abyss first and then Wicked Hearts.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to RP not playing it through at that point.

You're already marching troops through Orlais. If you've occupied Griffon Wing Keep, then you already have troops stationed in the Western Approach.

Not as an army though. They are scouts. The soldiers at GWK trickled in.

Besides, I don't go to the Western Approach until I'm ready to meet Hawke and Stroud there anyway.

For my current PT I've done WHWE first instead of HLTA for a change. Can't say it makes a huge amount of in-game difference except... although Morrigan has joined the Inquisition as 'arcane advisor' she's not coming to the War Table meetings, which she always used to do in my previous PTs; instead she's loitering in Skyhold's garden. I'm assuming that I'll need to finish Adamant before she'll show/tell me about the Eluvians, on which basis I'd probably recommend doing Adamant first and the Winter Palace second so her appearance makes narrative sense.
