I play him as an adept, but I don't go for biotic explosions. DS, then DC, shoot, detonate DS, shoot, repeat. CSMG with power amp and ammo clip, warp ammo, expert package, power amp, smg amp. He's an absolute monster.

Another nice thing about the Collector Adept: 750 base Barriers. So even 0 Fitness and a Cyclonic II gets you to 1200, which is kinda nuts.
However you really want Power Amp on him so I usually do at least 4 Fitness ("Ancient Warrior"), which is 1050 barrier.
= = =
It's too bad he doesn't get the normal +melee buffs in the 4a/5a/6a parts of Ancient Warrior (Ascension Stance stuff instead), because a Collector Adept light melee build would be hilarious.

Both his melees are too slow to be effective. His light melee is slower than the heavy melee attack from an AIU and you're stuck in the animation with no way to cancel it while your target can still move about. It isn't even a good last resort against husks, because by the time your attack goes off they are already hugging you. The melee doesn't lock on either, so good luck trying to hit a Nemesis. The heavy melee (Ascension Stance) makes him more vulnerable, too.

Some builds and discussion here with even more links to builds, videos and discussion here.
And a more recent thread about casting canceling here.
Edit:
And something about Dark Sphere mechanics and bugs. Dunno if that's still up-to-date.
Did you find any dinosaur bones while digging up these threads?

This In-depth collector adept video guide might give you some useful insight. I personally go with the no fitness power build with csmg

Indeterminate. Original account was banned, records were sealed. Only Amelia knows for sure.
He was posting mostly throughout the first year & 1/2 of ME3MP. I believe he changed his username to "Bioware Sociopathic Network"

Never visited there. Hell I've only just branched out to the ME:A forum in the past two weeks.
(I'm even considering a memoir topic, "The Dalliance of Dalakaar; My Visit To The SP Forums")
Never played DA:I. Actually just started DA:O in my fourth attempt to finish the damn thing so I can move onto DA2 and then DA:I...

He needs a good gun - that's for sure. That said, I think his synergy is pretty crappy with particle rifle. I usually go typhoon or reegar with this guy - take a cyclonic, drop swarms, and take everything else. Alternatively, you could take swarms for defense, and bring a power amp in lieu of the cyclonic (sketchy on plat). Keep DC active at all times and detonate dark sphere as much as possible. With the typhoon the recharge is a bit slow, but it basically allows you to thrown one every two standard clips. Ultimately this guy plays kinda slow due to his long recharges. More of an intermediate vs advance character IMO, but still totally viable on plat in the right hands.

You haven't used W4 with HVB, cause after priming it literally melts anything it hits

I agree also that the PPR isn't the best gun for him, it's heavy and slows down his power use. I find the CSMG to synergize really well with his powers, he's a beast on the right maps, but a large open map like Condor is not ideal due to the large open spaces and the slow speed of his DS, but on maps like Glacier and White he wrecks platinum (especially with a power amp IV equipped).

Obviously, the heavier the gun the more you need to use it compared to your powers. For a weapon or mixed build the PPR is pretty awesome, I can melt entire spawns within seconds with it.
I've played the power build for ages but the BE frequency wasn't satisfying, so I switched to my current build and I'm never ever going back.

That's not quite true- his long cooldowns mean the ramp up on the PPR doesn't interfere with his power use very much, and Dark Sphere is perfect for priming a group of enemies to melt instantly with Warp ammo biotic damage bonus. Dark Channel even makes sense since you can track it with the PPR as it jumps from mook to mook. He definitely plays differently with the PPR (you're not chaining combos or spamming powers, but focusing on your gun), but the PPR is the standard gun for his weapon platform build for good reason.

Yes. Besides, both DC and DS do DoT and thus prime for a long time, so you get the damage bonus from warp ammo for the entire duration of the PPR clip.

Basically, if you're going to take a PPR, you might as well just take the damn typhoon. At least that way it won't be as annoying.

PPR makes him a boss killer. CSMG makes him more of a mook killer.
With the PPR and Warp ammo, Banshees melt like cheese, and armor has no chance.
