Okay.

I've been gaming for almost 20 years now, I guess I do have a little training with aiming and such. There's still a huge difference in aiming at bots compared to players. The bots are utterly predictable in everything they do and you can exploit that easily.

First of all, I didn't call anyone a noob. I just can't stand this complaining about certain factions/weapons etc.

Someone doesn't like a faction or weapon? Fine. That doesn't translate into that faction or weapon being objectively worse though.

It's especially tiresome when someone brings up Glacier as example, when the problem at hand is avoiding getting into melee with enemies. That's like jumping into a puddle and then complaining about being wet. Or do you honestly believe enemies will behave differently on that map if you equip another weapon?

Correct on all points.

I play on PC with 60fps, sometimes on hosts with 120fps.

On some hosts you get nailed by an Atlas/Prime/Scion/Phantom across the entire map, through the tiniest gap, after being visible to it for 0.25sec. Going out in the open is suicide, nothing else.

*Disclaimer: I'm sorry.  I just can't help myself

DaemionMoadrin - So you've been gaming for 20 years, are playing on a PC where it's trivial to record gameplay, and haven't posted a single gold or plat solo on here!?  And then you rage-epeen against players who have proven themselves (by uploading their gameplay vids to this forum).  *shakes head* *face palm*

If something takes almost 20 years to master, it sure as hell isn't easy. I've played PC games longer than that (although with emphasis on non-shooters), and my skill at headshotting is nowhere near the level where I'd consider it trivial - certainly not trivial enough that I'd describe it as "just point and click".

The fact is that just about every PC gaming beginner absolutely sucks at it - no matter how much experience they have at using keyboard and mouse for other PC tasks. Getting headshots is certainly easier on PC than on consoles, but it's still not easy unless you've been practising for a significant amount of time.

Newsflash: It doesn't take 20 years to solo gold.  DaemionMoadrin is just special like that.

Ark, playing with keyboard/mouse is exactly as unnatural as playing with a controller. You have to get used to both of them.

The only online/MP shooter I ever played besides ME3 (on PS3) was way back in 1998-2000. I was in grad school at the time and a friend of mine ran the web servers/sites for all the student organizations at Syracuse. He had an office in the basement under the student center which was hooked directly into the university pipe - the most incredible internet connection I'd ever seen at that time. He had 3 workstations down there and each were set up with Starcraft and Quake II. I knew nothing about PC gaming but soon became quite proficient at both the Zerg rush and the MP Quake II Chaos Mod - a rotating group of small to medium maps that hosted around a dozen players. As soon as you died you respawned and you ran around picking up random weapons (still the coolest I've ever seen) while trying to see how many times you could "frag"/kill the other players in 15 minute matches - then the map would change and you started over.

This was far, far more dopamine than my brain had ever experienced before (sans chems) and many times we emerged from this windowless basement to find that the sun had risen unexpectedly.

...all that to preface this, that after many hundred hours of playing Quake II online, any concerns I'd had about not having a controller/joystick and the relative strangeness of playing a shooter with keyboard & mouse was gone. In fact, I remember thinking it was fantastically effective. Six years later when I bought a PS3 I though that I would NEVER EVER get used to this stupid bassackwards controller and its stupid irrational buttons and sticks. But I did. It took about as long to get used to as the PC game did.

I'd actually love to try MassEffect on a computer. But until I can do so on my Mac effortlessly I'll stick with console gaming (I will never again own a box that runs a Microsoft operating system),

...which reminds me, does anyone have any experience with using a keyboard/mouse on the PlayStation consoles? Is it worth the hassle?

For this game, it's really whether or not the inherent acceleration can be removed without breaking the game or whether accounted for that (which I severely doubt, seeing as the PC version has inherent acceleration until you napply teh hax to coalesced. I know for dead space It was better for aiming but movement was janky as hell, and moving while aiming was kind of "swingy" to use an exceedingly exact technical term, also the aim assist would also still be a thing, while not inherently bad, trying to smoothly drag a mouse with both built accel made of vectored analog and having aim assist on top sounds... problematic.

Dude, have you been lurking in the SP section of this forum for the last 3 years!?  Glacier is the premier speedrunning map for this game, period.  Avoiding getting into melee with enemies!!?? LOL - No.  The point is to kill the enemies quickly so that you can clear the wave quickly - not to avoid them!  People who are good at speedrunning glacier do not spend much time avoiding / running away from enemies.

Trying to resist the urge (probably failing) to turn this into another "auto-aim" (because there is no fking assistance from it) rage thread.

Why would I post any videos? I play for my own entertainment, not for others. I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I'm also not raging against anyone, I post here because I'm bored. Almost no emotion involved on my side. ME3 isn't competitive enough for me, I can't bring myself to take it seriously. If there was PvP, it would be different. In the past I posted thousands of screenshots and videos of my battles against players in various games but what's the point for doing that in a PvE Co-op TPS? "Look how I well I memorized spawn locations and bot movements"? Not very impressive.

Not to mention that I find the idea of playing MP mode solo pretty boring. I usually only solo to test stuff. My gold solos for the challenge were quick, uneventful and not even a little exciting. Why would I make a video of that?

Selective reading, eh? If you don't learn the basics within a few months you might as well give up. No point dragging it out for 20 years.

Somewhere else around here I wrote a post about the mentality of PvP players, you should read that. It might give you some insight.

Cute. I've been here for longer than most. So now we went from "PPR is bad against Cerberus" to "PPR is bad against Cerberus on Glacier" to "Glacier is good for speedrunning" ... I don't know what brand of logic you are employing here but you should consider an upgrade.

Hey, do you play on PC? Let's play some duos. I think that's going to clear a few things up. I'll even let you host.

Edit: Eh.... forget about the duos, I just saw you are on PS3. With a totally intimidating manifest that shows exactly one bronze solo. Never completed the PPR challenge and the weapon is at lvl1. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have taken you seriously. Now I feel I wasted my time discussing this with you.

What is the most effective or efficient way to play this dude? I've tried a power build and a weapons build but I can't seem to decide on either. I play mostly gold and platinum. Any thoughts?

Power build and on host is how you should play him. Just don't be a stone-anator/drunken-ator while at it.

The only argument done here on my side is that soloing platinum Cerberus is more difficult to do without a good stopping power or a weapon like the Venom, going through a platinum solo "head shooting the Dragoons with the PPR" is more difficult. On my part that comes out of the experience of 100 completed Platinum solos and Loufi who is making the same argument above have done almost 150, so that's the combined experience of 250 platinum solos vs 0 on your side, you might forgive me for not taking you very seriously on this specific topic.

Your debating skills are pretty poor.  Also it appears that you are pretty ignorant of this forum.  I have several 60 fps 1080p gold solos posted in the speedrun HoF thread, including a few sub-20's.  So you don't like this game, fine. Go sh!t on someone else's forum.  Otherwise, put up or shut up.

Ok, and in your vast experience you agree that "PPR sux hard against Cerberus"? That was the original argument that started all this before the entire discussion got sidetracked with Glacier, headshots and so on.

Cool man.  Yeah I'll hit you up on Origin next time I'm on (u pacific time also?)  - prob thurs/fri night.  Will be good to get back into it - so I guess we'll be decimating baddies with Typhoons, PPRs, and ACAs - should be a blast!  Will also have to throw in one game with the incendiary reegar KroSol w/ AC5 for good measure!

No not at all, as I also pointed out above it's not to bad as long as you have a kit with stopping powers, like the TGI with overload, I did several TGI/PPR-Cerberus solos.

Of course, one could have 5000 platinum solos and still be wrong, just like one could have zero plat solos and still be right. But obviously the PPR isn't as effective as the Venom or other stagger weapons against Phantoms- but it doesn't follow that it "sucks against Cerberus" (esp since it completely wrecks every single other unit in the faction), and the same is true for most hitscan weapons (i.e. they are less effective vs. phantom BS). But the really silly part here is that the recommended alternative is not the Venom or GPS or any gun that fares any better vs phantoms or dragoons, but a gun that is identical to the PPR in every relevant respect (the Typhoon).

Yes, but the argument being made is that as long as you have the PPR Cerberus becomes trivial, and my counter argument is that unless you are using a kit with a good staggering Power soloing platinum Cerberus is then quite a challange. That doesn't in any way claim that the PPR sucks, it's one of the best guns in the game but Cerberus will still be quite a challenge, and that is indeed something a long experience from platinum soloing will tell you compared to have done 0 solos.
