This was in the leak, and wasn't confirmed right? However, I do believe ME:A will be larger than ME3 -- who knows for sure how large this game will be. I don't want another Dragon Age: Inquisition.

A meaningless statement on it's own, as we don't know in what way it'll be bigger. Not enough information for proper speculation, even.

Mass Effect 3's galaxy map only seemed really big on the surface. The one hub we had was just the sort-of medium between ME1 and ME2, and open exploration no longer existed, unless scanning solar systems and getting chased by reapers counts. Most systems we can visit didn't really have a whole lot going on.

ME:A doesn't even have a galaxy map so I don't see how this comparison is in any way useful. It's the equivalent of saying "The map of Perth is four times bigger than the map of Europe".

This is giving me flashbacks to Inquisition pre launch. The boast that the Hinterlands is bigger than all maps in DAO. And guess how that turned out.

I remember hearing a similar boast before. Bad memories.

If it's true, hopefully it means we'll get more multiplayer maps.

that isnt a good thing. If it means there are going to be like 1000 side activities than I'm already disappointing.

Part of what I loved about the original trilogy was the fact that it didnt take 100 hrs to 100% each game. I could do complete each game completely in under 40 hrs. A completionist playthrough of the entire trilogy took me 100-120 hrs tops. Meanwhile DAI took me 80 hrs to do a single playthrough, and it wasnt even close to 100%ed.

Same with the witcher 3 and MGSV. Maybe im just sick of open world games

We've known this for a while now.

ME3 was not a large game either way. It's always been weird to me when devs compare the size of a large game compared to a small one.

Sort of like CDPR comparing TW3 size to TW2 size when TW2 was linear and even smaller than TW1.

To be fair... Out of all the complaints I have about the Hinterlands, precisely NONE of them is that the place is too small.  :P

I wonder how the galaxy map will work anyway. No relay network. Everything unexplored. For story reasons I imagine they'll put some exploration caps.... fuel/resource limits, encountering some kind of tech that requires you level to get passed, having to make treaty with some race before you can move ahead. Maybe some areas are reserved for dlc also, so you wont actually find much there until their stories & races are ready for release. Having a big map could still mean lots of empty space.

I bet a lot of it will be small descriptions, discovered artifacts like before. Only more so, because they have to establish an entire new mythology & background of a whole galaxy. There's going to be a lot of exposition, a lot of explaining, because we'll be the fish out of water character. There'll be races thinking they could take advantage of our ignorance so discovering information to use against them will be great for persuasion/intimidate checks. Haha, I am ready for the info dump.

No, my point was that the Hinterlands is huge, sure, but that doesn't mean it was successful. How soon before "Leave the Hinterlands" became a meme?

I assume by the point in time feedback started coming in from DAI, it was too late to change much in MEA. Too many resources had already been committed to the open world idea and scrapping that could put them back at square one, or at least push the release time back for months. Hopefully some of the DAI feedback can soften the sharpest corners, but I'm not anticipating MEA's open world from being dramatically different from DAI's. And Bio is probably still polishing those GOTY awards in their dark bedrooms, singing softly to them, so think MEA is going to be a success from name recognition alone, and all of the awards they'll get whether fans agreed or not.
